Chapter 230: Chapter 230: Trouble Cos

Sister-in-law Lian?

Yang Peimin and Luo Dahua both heard a key point.

The Red Army wife looked at their expressions and explained, “Sister-in-law Lian ca earlier and doesn’t know. Later, Kong Ya also brought Sister-in-law Lian, who used to be neighbors with Gao Hong, to testify. Sister-in-law Lian didn’t directly ntion Gao Hong’s issue, but she implicitly agreed. Now, Mrs. Cui is stubbornly accusing the two of them, demanding compensation.”

Luo Dahua glanced at Yang Peimin and said with so relief, “Luckily, Sister-in-law Lian wasn’t dragged into this. Mrs. Cui always causes trouble. Once she pins it on you, it’s like peeling off a layer of your skin.”

The Red Army wife nodded in agreent. After all, they had once been falsely accused by Mrs. Cui and had to pay her to settle down.

Yang Peimin wiped the nonexistent sweat from her forehead and nodded, “This matter is tricky to begin with. Once involved, even if Mrs. Cui doesn’t cause a scene, there will always be those who will make pointed remarks.”

Luo Dahua agreed deeply, “You are right. It’s good that Gao Hong didn’t die. If she had, both of them would have been held accountable. There will be plenty to talk about in the future.”

After leaving Luo Dahua’s house, Yang Peimin went back to her dormitory to fetch her al container and get so food, feeling scared and hungry.

Holding her al, she returned to the dormitory and ran into Du Juanjuan, who was also about to go out for food. She stopped, with a mocking expression ready to start sothing, but Yang Peimin walked past her without looking.

“Hey, Yang Peimin…”

As Yang Peimin was using her key to open the door, she casually nodded.

Taking advantage of her opening the door, Du Juanjuan said, “I heard soone committed suicide downstairs? I must say, Yang Peimin, you really have a dark heart, to have driven soone to suicide with others.”

Yang Peimin turned around, angry now, “Du Juanjuan, did you leave your brain at ho this morning, or what? How can you talk nonsense like this? I used to think you being willful and spoiled wasn’t a big issue, but now, it seems you also have a vicious heart. If I hear another word, I’ll report it to the CPPCC. Making baseless accusations to disrupt unity is a serious cri.”

Du Juanjuan, not expecting her to refute so unquestionably, maintained her composure despite losing the argunt, “Don’t think just because you are innocent that you can clear yourself completely. With Gao Hong’s situation, you also implicitly agreed, didn’t you? Do you think you can avoid the bright eyes of the public?”

Yang Peimin narrowed her eyes, “Only soone targeting like you, Du Juanjuan, could infer a different aning. There’s nothing more to say. As usual, if you continue slandering, I will make a report.”

Du Juanjuan’s expression changed slightly, but she forced a smile, “Fine, we will see.”

Yang Peimin looked at her again, Du Juanjuan lifted her chin, as arrogant as ever. However, she seed more composed than a few months ago, less impulsive, and had learned to stay calm and strategize.

After saying that, Du Juanjuan gave her a aningful smile and went downstairs.

Yang Peimin also opened the door and walked in.

It seed she also had to prepare for this matter. She wasn’t afraid of anything else, just that Du Juanjuan, like Mrs. Cui, would create endless trouble, and so people might believe her without knowing the truth.

She had to put that matter aside today because what was really important now was how she was going to spend the night.

Just as a suicidal incident had occurred nearby, she was faced with sleeping alone. It wasn’t a big deal in a small room surrounded by neighbors, but now this was a big house, eerily empty, where even her own footsteps echoed. What was she to do?

Should she invite soone over to sleep with her?

Luo Dahua? Red Army Wife?

They had husbands and children.

Yang Peimin inevitably thought of Shen Yiguang, not knowing when he would return. She hadn’t heard any news at all.

Earlier, Sister-in-law Dahua and others ntioned that Du Juanjuan’s husband had also gone on a mission, leaving her alone at ho. However, that wasn’t her concern, especially since the two had just had a fight. How could she stay with her?

After dinner, she lit the stove, took an early bath, and went to bed with the light on, trying to fall asleep early to cast aside her fear.

But in the middle of the night, noisy sounds erupted again—it was from the Cui family. Yang Peimin woke up startled, her heart racing uncontrollably. Glancing at her watch, it was 2:10 AM.

The sound diminished, but faint crying could still be heard.

After calming down a bit, Yang Peimin was furious.

Feeling that she could no longer sleep, she got up, tightly closed the window, and moved a small dining table from the living room into her bedroom. She sat down to write a letter to Shen Yiguang—she really had a lot of grievances to pour out.

When she woke up in the morning with heavy bags under her eyes, she didn’t feel like going out for breakfast and decided to go back to sleep.

Her sleep didn’t last long as her own door was knocked on.

It was Luo Dahua who ca in saying, “Sorry, Sister-in-law, for waking you up. There’s been another incident…”

Yang Peimin quickly asked what happened. Luo Dahua’s face was full of impatience, “Did you hear it last night? The Cui family had another act, probably the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law at it again. Sister Li was gathering people like Red Army Wife and others, even talked about pulling you in, taking turns to go down and talk so sense into Gao Hong. You wouldn’t know, my Xiao Niu was so scared last night, she even got a slight fever this morning, I need to stay at ho… Sister Li was suggesting sothing, Gao Hong isn’t getting along here, and we’re just a few of us. This is a matter of life and death—we really need to help…”

Yang Peimin was impatient too, and after almost a sleepless night, she felt really irritable and refused saying, “I can’t deal with this. I’ve only been here a few days, I barely talk to anyone. I’m sorry, if Sister Li cos looking for the sisters again, please tell her that she needs to solve this problem from the root. Our half-hearted persuasions won’t do any good, and as for their mother-in-law and daughter-in-law issues, they need to find the mother-in-law to resolve them.”

Luo Dahua sighed, “That’s what I said too, but the problem obviously won’t be solved anyti soon and Gao Hong looks like she might do sothing drastic at any mont. Her troubleso mother-in-law continues to provoke her with unnecessary comnts. Didn’t you hear the fuss last night? It disturbed everyone around; my husband even had to rush over in the middle of the night to counsel the Cui family n…”

Despite this, Luo Dahua still hoped Yang Peimin would make a visit to follow Sister Li’s request—a visit would at least prevent people from thinking she was cold and selfish. Whether or not she could persuade Gao Hong wasn’t the concern; just making the appearance would suffice.

Yang Peimin sighed, what a ss.

Eventually, she was dragged downstairs where she first explained to Sister Li that she was not close with Gao Hong, and that she was there only out of moral duty and unity. Whether she could persuade her, she couldn’t guarantee.
