Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Days

Yang PeiMin quickly finished her al, helped tidy up the dishes, and hurried back to her own room, not wanting to get involved in the squabble between Shen Yiqiu and her sister-in-law.

She organized her howork, then took out a piece of paper and made a plan for herself. The situation was gradually improving, and there were so things she could start doing, like making clothes, which seed to be a viable option.

After setting aside the plan, she picked up the clothes of Miss Hu ilan and pondered over them. Since she was not very skilled at tailoring, it would take more ti, and it wasn’t the only thing she had to do. As Shen Yiqiu had ntioned, she could ask for help when there were many orders, but currently, with only one or two items, she had to do it herself.

She spent an hour cutting the fabric and another hour sewing half of the dress. As her biological clock was running out, she applied a face mask and went to bed.

The next day, she went to class on ti and didn’t bring lunch; it seed too troubleso to prepare in the morning, so she decided to eat in the school cafeteria instead. If the food tasted bland, she’d go to a nearby restaurant for a bowl of noodles or sothing, which was a bit of an improvent. In the evenings when she went to Shen Yiqiu’s house to share als, aside from bringing back so grains from ho, she occasionally bought so at or eggs, not a lot, but enough for everyone to have a bite or two, satisfying their cravings. Though this was the case, the children from the An Family really liked her and wished she would stay forever. Shen Yiqiu, annoyed, scolded them, “With at in your mouths, you don’t even recognize your own mother.”

Her deskmate, Gao Qiayu, felt sowhat superior and looked down on rural people, always calculating in her interactions. Once she learned that Yang PeiMin was from the countryside, her enthusiasm cooled a bit; however, it wasn’t completely extinguished. When she noticed the Swiss watch on Yang’s wrist, she curiously inquired, “Is PeiMin married? Is that watch an engagent gift from your family’s loved one?”

After Yang PeiMin nodded in acknowledgnt, Gao’s warmth increased slightly, and she continued to ask, “What does your husband do? Does he work in a textile factory too?”

Turning her head to look at her, Yang PeiMin felt slightly displeased. She could clearly see the ulterior motives in her expression and thought it obvious. Her deanor imdiately beca a bit distant, “No, what’s the point of asking these questions? My husband is just a fellow villager like ; there’s not much to talk about. I still haven’t finished these problems; I need to concentrate.”

Gao Qiayu, hearing this, imdiately lost the last bit of her enthusiasm, nodded slightly, and turned her head away, not bothering Yang with further questions.

During this period of school, Yang PeiMin didn’t feel the youthful impulse to mingle eagerly, so coming here to study ant limited interaction with classmates, most of which were simply nodding acquaintances. She could barely rember so familiar faces, but most nas were unknown, as everyone was focused on studying with no ti for socializing.

This life was replenishing yet simple; upon returning ho from classes, she would help cook and then study. She managed to ignore the noise from the landlord, Aunt Fan, who often quarreled loudly with neighbors. After two days, she finished and delivered Hu ilan’s skirt, which to her satisfaction, prompt paynt for the remainder one yuan was made.

Hu ilan didn’t have any more clothing orders soon after, and the weekend arrived. Upon returning to Daji Village, Yang learned from Shen Yiyue that instead they had received five or six orders, each costing 50 cents for labor, to help make their style of skirts. At ho, Chen Guizhi led the effort, but the two sisters, due to academic commitnts, hadn’t taken much part, tasting success after making a few, they eagerly awaited Yang PeiMin’s return to develop new designs.

Seeing them so distracted from their studies, Yang PeiMin was not supportive. She specifically talked to them about not needing to earn this small amount of money at the expense of their chance to attend university. If they were still interested later on, she suggested waiting until after the college entrance exams, and she would definitely support them then.

Shen Yiyue and her sister had just cald down and thought of the National College Entrance Examination approaching them soon, they both couldn’t help revealing a look of regret. After Yang PeiMin finished the two skirts she was working on, she didn’t take any more orders.

At that mont, she heard so news upon returning. Shen Yidong had given birth to another daughter. She vaguely heard so dissatisfied murmurs from her mother-in-law and had argued with her again, insisting on returning to her parental ho for her confinent period. This news was brought back by soone else, and Chen Guizhi was also preparing to visit her and had invited Yang PeiMin to join.

Yang PeiMin didn’t want to go as it would involve much trouble, but after all, she was Yiguang’s elder sister. If she was really being mistreated, her own family couldn’t ignore it.

They arranged for a bullock cart to help, and the whole family except for Shen Erniu went to see Shen Yidong.

Knowing that Shen Yidong had a girl and was disparaged by her mother-in-law, Yang PeiMin made an extra effort with the gifts. She prepared everything for the baby including clothes, blankets, and milk powder. This was to let the He family know not to look down on Shen Yidong, regardless of whether she had a son or not. Her family was just as happy and the Shen family would always support her.

When they arrived at the He family’s ho, the He family’s faces were all amiable, warmly calling out to each other as in-laws as they went inside to see Shen Yidong.

Seeing this elder cousin, Yang PeiMin was also taken aback. Perhaps it was due to just having given birth, her face was sallow and her eyes had dark circles, her cheeks sunken—maybe she had stressed herself out too much. She rembered that just two months ago, her face was still rosy and plump. Even if her in-laws didn’t like her personally, they still valued the grandson in her belly, and wouldn’t skimp on her food and drink. Otherwise, with Shen Yidong’s temperant, she would have already returned to her parental ho to complain.

When Chen Guizhi asked about her condition, Shen Yidong began to pour out her grievances, blaming the He family for looking down on her for having another girl, attributing her current state to the conflict with them, and Yang PeiMin found herself speechless.

No matter what, one shouldn’t harm their own body like this. She didn’t even know if her newborn daughter was getting any breast milk.

Just as she was pondering this, Shen Yidong ntioned that she didn’t have any breast milk. She said the He family begrudged even killing a chicken for her to eat, resulting in her having no milk now, and her daughter had been drinking only thin millet porridge for the past few days.

In the end, Shen Yidong’s main ssage was that she wanted to move back to her parental ho for her confinent period.

Chen Guizhi felt sorry for her and looked to Yang PeiMin.

Yang PeiMin didn’t mind. She wouldn’t be ho in the future anyway, but first she wanted to make things clear, “As long as my elder sister doesn’t target in the future, I’m still very welcoming.”
