Early the next morning, Damon Hawke went to the hotel’s buffet restaurant for breakfast.
He sat by the window sipping coffee, eating and watching the news.
A surprised and delighted female voice sounded in his ear, "Tom?"
Damon Hawke looked up and saw Evelyn Miles standing gracefully in front of him, holding a plate of food.
"Samantha? What are you doing here?"
Damon Hawke asked in surprise.
"My forr ntor knew I was back in the country and introduced to a business performance event, so I ca over last night."
Evelyn Miles sat opposite Damon Hawke and asked with a bright smile, "And you, Tom? Why are you here?"
"I’m here to handle so business matters."
Damon Hawke replied indifferently.
"What a coincidence then."
Evelyn Miles took a sip of milk, her eyes bright and clear.
Damon Hawke made no comnt, glanced at the ti on his phone, and made a call.
At this ti, the three people he cared about most should have finished breakfast and be ready to go to school.
A clear, pleasant woman’s voice ca through the line.
"Hello?"
"It’s , have Charlie and Bea woken up?"
"They’ve been up for a while, having breakfast. Do you want to talk to them?"
"No need, I just wanted to hear your voice."
Damon Hawke chuckled softly, his eyes full of warmth.
Evelyn Miles paused her eating, looking at Damon’s gentle smile, jealousy flickering in her eyes.
Damon Hawke was on the phone with Elara Don.
It gave the impression of a husband on a business trip calling his wife.
Could their relationship really be this good already!
Evelyn Miles’s expression twisted, but quickly returned to calm.
She wasn’t worried; after today, she was sure she could change Damon’s mind!
Just then, a middle-aged man’s voice ca across.
"Samantha."
Evelyn Miles turned and smiled sweetly at the newcor, "Uncle Gabriel."
Gabriel Miles nodded, catching sight of Damon Hawke opposite her.
Damon Hawke had just finished his call with Elara Don, and his surprise grew upon seeing Gabriel Miles here as well.
"Uncle Miles?"
What day was it today?
Not only had he run into Evelyn Miles, but also the seldom-seen Gabriel Miles?
"So it’s Tom, what a coincidence. Are you here on business?"
Gabriel Miles sat beside Evelyn, smiling as he asked.
"Yes, I have so business to attend to. And you, Uncle Miles? How have you been?"
Damon Hawke asked with concern.
"Alright. So old subordinates of mine insisted I co out and about since I’ve been idling at ho. They even found an excuse, saying they needed my guidance on work matters."
Gabriel Miles said with a soft smile.
Damon Hawke listened thoughtfully.
Wasn’t Gabriel’s forr subordinate the secretary-general who had just transferred to Crestfall?
The secretary-general was blocking his project, and he planned to visit him later!
Lost in thought, soone ca over.
"Boss, you’re already up?"
Damon Hawke looked up to see the secretary-general he had just been thinking about approaching.
He wore gold-rimd glasses and had a respectful deanor towards Gabriel Miles.
"Being older, I can’t sleep in."
Gabriel Miles laughed heartily, pulling him over, "You’re just in ti. Let introduce you. This is Damon Hawke, the promising young CEO of Hawke Group. Tom, no need for to introduce him to you."
Damon Hawke stood up, shaking hands in greeting with the secretary-general.
The secretary-general said, "I’ve heard much about you, Mr. Hawke, and seeing you today, you truly live up to your illustrious na, dashing and promising."
"You’re too kind, Secretary-General."
Damon Hawke smiled, and they both sat down, "I was planning to et you later, Secretary-General, didn’t expect to see you sooner."
"Oh? Mr. Hawke wanted to see to discuss the waste disposal issue in the resort developnt, I assu?"
The secretary-general didn’t beat around the bush, asking directly.
"Yes."
Damon Hawke nodded, "Secretary-General, our Hawke Corporation has always been ticulous in the procedures for resort developnt. The previous waste disposal was approved, but for so reason..."
"Mr. Hawke, it’s not work ti now, let’s not talk business."
The secretary-general glanced at the ti and turned to Gabriel Miles, "Boss, I have to leave first, my people are waiting outside. When you’re done, let my staff take you out for a walk."
Gabriel Miles nodded, "You go ahead, don’t worry about ."
Watching the secretary-general leave, Damon Hawke pressed his lips together, wordless for a mont.
Opposite, Evelyn Miles’s eyes sparkled as she deliberately asked, "Tom, by the sound of it, is the Hawke Corporation’s project being obstructed by this Secretary-General?"
Hearing this, Damon Hawke gave a light nod.
He couldn’t quite understand this Secretary-General’s intentions.
Why on earth was he blocking his project?
"Uncle Gabriel, it seems that Secretary-General respects you greatly. Could you help Tom and have a good talk with the Secretary-General, asking him to stop blocking Tom’s project?"
Evelyn Miles clung to Gabriel’s arm, pleading.
Gabriel Miles glanced at Damon Hawke and then at Evelyn Miles, "I do have so influence, but why should I help him? Who is he to ?"
Upon hearing this, Damon Hawke’s eyes flickered.
Gabriel Miles could help him?
But this question...
"Uncle Gabriel, just on account of my request."
Evelyn Miles shook Gabriel’s hand, continuing to coax.
"I’ve grown up with Tom, our bond is closer than family. Please help him."
Evelyn Miles appeared as a doting little girl, and Gabriel Miles chuckled affectionately, reaching out to pat her head.
"You’re always giving problems!"
The man’s face was full of indulgence, looking at Evelyn Miles as if she were his own daughter.
Watching them, Damon Hawke’s eyes flickered.
"Tom, do you need my help?"
Gabriel Miles turned to Damon Hawke, asking quietly.
Returning to his senses, Damon Hawke quickly said, "If Uncle Miles can help, I would be imnsely grateful."
"Don’t thank , thank Samantha. I’m only helping because of her."
Gabriel Miles comnted aningfully and stood up, "You two continue talking, I’ll step out to make a call."
"Uncle Gabriel, thank you so much," Evelyn Miles thanked sweetly.
After Gabriel Miles left, she turned to Damon Hawke, "Tom, don’t worry, my uncle will handle it, absolutely."
Hearing this, Damon Hawke glanced at her.
"Samantha, thank you."
Looking at him, Evelyn Miles said, "Tom, if my uncle manages to settle this, could you grant one request as a token of your gratitude?"
"What request?"
"Could you spend a day with ?"
Spend a day with her!
Damon Hawke frowned, pressing his thin lips together.
Evelyn Miles reached out and held his hand.
"Tom, I know you and Elly are getting married soon. Just spend today with , let it be our last farewell, okay?"
Evelyn Miles forced a couple of tears, looking pitiful.
Damon Hawke looked at her intently, silent for a mont.
At this ti, Gabriel Miles returned.
"Alright, Tom, later you can co with to the relevant departnt and get the procedures done."
