EMP!
If soone were looking down from high above the Colorado Farm area, they would witness a terrifying scene:
The power station belonging to the Ye Group suddenly burst into blinding flashes, with exaggerated electric arcs as thick as natural lightning, surging like dragon bolts!
Boom!
Following the flash was an exaggerated explosion!
From the power station at its center, darkness spread across Saint Domingo. Hundreds of transforrs caught fire simultaneously, and the flas beca the only light in the area, but it was a disquieting kind of light.
People looked up at the sky, where the black smoke gradually dispersed, shrouding the already dark heavens. Rainwater seeped through the smoke, pelting their windows.
Sounds of advertisents, music, TV programs, and the like all halted, while gunshots and engine noises beca clearer—
And factories exploded due to unstable voltage!
Fear spread with the dark.
Lille, who had been moving swiftly between buildings, suddenly stopped all motion, his brain–computer interface flickering with electricity:
As he moved, he conducted tactical deploynts, his head acting as a wireless server, receiving and transmitting signals all at once.
But EMP waves had a much more terrifying destructive power on networks that relied on wireless connections—Lille’s brain–computer interface in his head was already on fire!
At his neck, the processor just above the Cyber Modulator burned through his skin, overloading his entire Prosthetics System!
Fortunately, the Prosthetics System had protection against such explosions, and the flas were quickly extinguished by the rainwater.
Lille imdiately lost consciousness and fell from the 30-ter high building—
Thud!
Two Octopus Arms slamd into the wall fiercely, suspending Lille as he dangled, his eyes blankly staring at the street below:
His brain cells suffered massive damage—if he had been a normal person, he would have lived for at most another 10 seconds.
Little Octopus imdiately adjusted the remaining functional closed circuitry, maximizing the auxiliary heart’s power used for injecting Lizard Serum!
Lille’s daily consumption of Lizard Serum was 1ml, but now, 30ml of serum was directly injected!
Those still living cells beca highly aggressive, engulfing necrotic tissues and cells and converting them into nutrients; the transgenic lizard’s accelerated Regeneration Ability reconstructed his brain cells within 10 seconds—
Lille’s eyes also returned to their vertical pupils.
"Ha—"
The damp, cold air entered his lungs, and Lille was astonished:
This thod was common among top Hackers and tech experts. Before the collapse of the old net, so bold Hackers often used this thod to create massive blackouts.
Every such blackout was "gloriously" docunted.
In principle, it was the sa as what he had done in Company Square...
But... Lille looked towards the epicenter of the EMP: the power station of the Ye Group!
Others might not know, but he did: the Ye Group currently had a deeply concealed rogue AI in control, and the stability of the power network was the lifeline for the AI...
After the old net collapsed, was there still a Hacker capable of crashing a power network controlled by an AI?!
Lille reached behind his neck and plucked out the processor, taking shelter under an eave. From his toolbox, he took out surgical equipnt and perford ergency repairs on himself.
Boom!
A second later, a loud bang tore through the sky—the sniper had fired!
In the darkness, having lost all communications, Lille tensed: he had no way of knowing if the sergeant had been taken out!
When the network was up, managing combat space that spanned a 6000-ter radius in the city wasn’t too complicated, and a few hundred mbers of the Six Street Gang could coordinate orderly.
But without the network, leading combat over a 6000-ter spread turned into a hellishly difficult task, especially since this was an urban area!
The good news was that it was a downpour, which ant that the recoil-operated sniper rifle couldn’t perform at its best. It might even misfire due to the damp weather, rendering it less effective than a regular sniper rifle!
Lille shook his head as the empty Octopus Arm behind him angrily pointed in the direction of the sound:
To identify the sniper’s location, Lille had specifically installed an auditory assistance system.
The first shot would reveal the sniper’s rough position, and the rainy weather would shorten his effective sniping distance.
Lille could only hope the sergeant hadn’t been taken out. If so, they still had a chance.
Guard missions were much more difficult than assassination ones.
...
David held his breath in the rain, the lights of the bustling city center across the river providing him with just a hint of illumination, but this faint light appeared even more feeble under the intensifying downpour.
By contrast, the muzzle flashes in the dark streets were more dazzling.
Gunfire continued without pause, and he heard screams and fierce roars; car after car exploded, and one shattered body after another crashed onto the street...
He had to rely on his hearing alone.
The original plan called for the Six Street Gang to drive people into this main road from all directions and then ambush them, but now, it was dark and communications had failed.
The rcenaries were clever enough to turn off their car lights, relying on their advanced Prosthetic Eyes to identify enemies and roads.
This thod was effective: the fighting capabilities of the Six Street Gang were uneven, with many having inferior Prosthetics that simply couldn’t support combat in such adverse conditions!
What should have been a situation dominated by superior numbers swiftly turned into several rcenary squads taking the upper hand, leveraging their excellent Prosthetics and extensive independent combat experience!
The situation took a dire turn, and David watched nervously down both sides of the street...
Boom!
A car broke through the roadblock out of control, and with the light from the flas, David saw that it was a Six Street Gang vehicle!
Most of those in the car were already dead; only a high-ranking officer in the passenger’s seat, clenching his teeth, continued to fire his gun from the roof of the car—
The gun fla revealed a robust man, who stood firm as a rock on the car roof, wielding a Shotgun.
David imdiately turned his gun barrel!
The man on the roof also noticed David crouching nearby and made a split-second decision to leap away.
Just then, another car ramd violently into the gap created by the Six Street Gang’s vehicle, and the man landed steadily on the car!
Without a doubt, that was the rcenaries’ vehicle!
Bullets struck the car’s body; David didn’t know if he had hit anyone, but soon he switched targets and aid at the tires, and this ti he heard the sound of a tire bursting!
One car lost control, followed by a succession of collisions, and then more cars desperately smashed through the barricades and that car, so even heading straight for him!
David’s heart seed to skip a beat as he heard a car coming right at him!
Si Anweisitan activated, and he imdiately let go of the machine gun to leap aside!
Bang.
As he landed and rolled, David instinctively pulled out his pistol and took a kneeling stance, then gunfire followed!
Pop-pop-pop-pop!
The gunshots rang by his ears, not aid at him.
David looked back and saw a Six Street Gang officer with a tactical mask—it looked like the sa one from the car earlier!
This officer was shooting into the darkness, pulling David from the curb to the side of an already wrecked car—
Snap!
A bullet struck where David had just been, blasting a hole into the ground.
"Well done, kid! Which squad are you from? You’ve just been promoted on the spot!"
David almost blurted out sothing like "Arasaka Academy, Class XX," but he imdiately realized this was not an alumnus asking!
"I’m a rcenary!"
"Then you’re now the leader of the independent squad—hold this position, I’m going to reconnect the car’s high beams! Let’s get our people together... shit!"
Boom!
An explosion occurred on another halted car; the Six Street Gang officer grabbed David’s head, and a shard of tal sliced through where David’s head had been a mont before, embedding into the bullet-riddled car door.
"Got that!" the Six Street Gang officer shoved his rifle into David’s hands.
"Got it!" David nodded and viciously aid the gun toward the direction where there were sounds in the dark, continuing to fire without pause.
Thwack!
Behind him, the car that could no longer drive suddenly lit up, its high beams montarily illuminating the street.
"Move over here! Six Street Gang, tactical assembly!!!"
The Six Street Gang officer, having fixed the lights, yelled hoarsely, and the gang mbers looked over like they had found a lifeline, but...
Boom—
David’s pupils dilated; amidst the chaos of noise, an engine’s roar overpowered all other sounds!
Another car was hurtling straight at them at full speed!
Si Anweisitan was activated again; he reached out to pull the officer inside the car, and the officer, realizing the intention, activated his own Si Anweisitan to jump out with leverage.
But the incoming car was just too fast!
Bang!
The pickup sent the car with the newly-fixed lights flying, and David also got pushed by the trendous force, uncontrollably flying into the air!
The spotlight shifted, and David, flying through the air, followed the light to see just how bad the situation was, how chaotic the scene.
Wrecked cars lay like corpses on the road, seemingly the darkness and interference caused relentless accidents for the Six Street Gang, and although the road was blocked, but...
The real corpses were everywhere: all belonged to the Six Street Gang.
The living sheltered behind cars looking for opportunities to shoot, while those half-dead crawled on the ground, moaning in pain as they moved.
Several figures with Si Anweisitan activated moved rapidly above and beside these cars, with each shot able to take a life.
In a flash, he saw another familiar car among the junk cars: Man’s Mackinaw.
He saw Man and others defending around the Mackinaw, but the high beams revealed a deadly angle behind them, a rcenary had already raised a gun at them...
In mid-air, David exerted force again, the implanted muscles struggling to adjust his posture, trying to steady the pistol—
Pop-pop-pop!
The bullets drove back the rcenary; Si Anweisitan shut down, and David crashed onto the ground in an almost unguarded stance, his head suddenly filled with ringing.
This ti, Man and his people could see David crashing to the ground through the light.
But the light flickered and soon went out.
"David!"
Man yelled loudly, trying to get David to co over.
But that shout exposed him; David took two steps forward and just managed to see atop the Mackinaw’s roof, a man had just reloaded his bullets and was about to aim the gun at Man.
All of this happened in the blink of an eye, and only David, with Si Anweisitan activated, could catch these movents.
To stop this rcenary... he had to be even faster, fast like a full-speed racing car, sturdy like a tank breaking through those roadblocks to take out the rcenary before the trigger was pulled.
What could be that fast?
The answer was, a motorbike with explosive propulsion.
In David’s eyes, Si Anweisitan made ti seem to flow at only half its normal rate, but even so, as the motorbike skimd over the car tops, it was as fast as a plane!
Rumble!
The engine roared!
The motorbike’s tail fla was entirely like a rocket, the heatwave even disturbing the raindrops, rocketing across more than 3 ters above the ground!
V rode on the motorbike, Mantis Blade piercing through the rcenary’s body at high speed and viciously turning—
Whoosh!
To an ordinary person’s eyes, a gale howled, a fla soared over their heads.
A torso crashed down.
