Chapter 1277: Chapter 987: The Artificial Greenskin Project
“Look, how impressive.” Chishiki waved her hand, making the tall greenskins line up in the clearing.
“How did you manage that?” Xu Cheng examined closely.
“I discovered that these greenskins are essentially… fungi.” Chishiki had one of the greenskins open its palm.
Xu Cheng was startled; from the greenskin’s wound oozed “green blood,” with the fracture appearing like a broken plant stem, and the mycelium replaced veins, protruding vigorously, self-wriggling, with sharp filants that were distinctly visible. The blood was essentially like tree sap or mushroom juice.
“So you can manipulate the growth and developnt of the greenskins!” Xu Cheng exclaid in surprise.
“Just like controlling a flower to bloom.” Chishiki twirled her fingers.
She had left ho for an alien star searching for extraterrestrial plants, and surprisingly, these greenskins turned out to be the greatest treasure.
One of the greenskins was exceptionally large, at least 4 ters tall, bigger than the greenskin huts around, with coarse, thick skin as if covered in two layers of hard hide. Its limbs were strong and powerful, one arm larger than Xu Cheng’s whole body.
“How huge…” Xu Cheng gazed upward in awe.
“I can modify its ‘plant genes,’ and now it emits the scent of jasmine instead of a stench.” Chishiki said.
“Owooo!” The super greenskin roared clumsily, its massive jaws releasing a jasmine fragrance.
“Uh, uh.” Xu Cheng was struck with astonishnt.
“Its regeneration is ten tis that of an ordinary greenskin. Enhanced tabolism would remind you of those rampant fungi growing in the forest.” Chishiki took out a small knife and forcefully stabbed it into the super greenskin’s side, barely cutting the surface layer, which healed almost instantly.
“What else? What else?” Xu Cheng was curious.
“I’ve improved the performance of these super greenskins, enhancing their growth and developnt rate and strengthening their interconnections to share pheromones. This gives them two advantages: they are stronger, larger, and develop faster, and they are more united.” Chishiki waved her hand.
The super greenskins embraced each other like kin, sympathizing with one another, as if forming a gigantic fungal colony.
“If all greenskins are fungi, then do they also have spores or sothing?” Xu Cheng suddenly rembered upon hearing this.
“Yes, it is very likely that the greenskins here also grow from spores. We found so dormant greenskins in remote regions, surrounded by strange primitive green mushrooms emitting endless spores into the sky. I suspect this might be the case—the greenskins, at a certain life stage, suddenly feel the urge to leave the tribe, stay in an uninhabited place, and unconsciously ‘flower and bear fruit,’ with spores possessing strong vitality to travel the cosmos for millions of years. Once landing on a planet, within a few years, a thriving new greenskin tribe is born.” Xu Yang explained.
“Chishiki, you’re truly specialized in this area.” Xu Cheng ran over, grabbing Chishiki’s hand.
“…!” Chishiki blushed instantly as Xu Cheng held her hand, feeling a strong desire to stay with Xu Cheng. Thankfully, they were not related by blood, “It’s nothing much~”
“Greenskins revere strong greenskins; there’s no competitive advantage for us in exhausting battles here. It’s better to use these super greenskins to suppress and rule the greenskins, making them human vassals.” Xu Yang suggested.
“We could also send so back to Terra Star to mine.” Chishiki applied her comrcial wisdom.
“This greenskin makes a good base template, seeming to be the strongest super greenskin.” Xu Yang looked at the largest individual.
“I want to na it ‘Green Skin Great General Cain.'” Chishiki thought of those outstanding figures.
“Owooo!” Cain was very pleased, as the strongest among super greenskins, its power was formidable, sending greenskin youngsters trembling and collapsing at the re sight of it on the battlefield.
Before continuing to modify Cain and the super greenskins, Xu Yang took Xu Cheng and the others to eat.
“Though space food is delectable, we must try sothing truly rich in color, fragrance, and taste.” Xu Yang had deft drones tidy up an area nearby, preparing culinary supplies.
“What if I wanted to try what greenskins usually eat?” Xu Cheng asked.
“They are plants. Sunbathing fills them up.” Chishiki laughed.
“But aren’t there at and vegetables in the warehouse?” Xu Cheng recalled.
“Those are for feeding the greenskins’ servant races, so Thorny Skin Little Monsters without hands. We wanted to bring back samples, but they were too fierce to survive overnight. They seem not to have any developntal value either.” Xu Yang comnted.
The cooking drone brought lunch, its eight arms delivered a feast: a heap of skewered roast at, fried noodles, sushi, beef burgers, vegetable salad, mashed potatoes, fish rice bowl, and lamb stew.
They were piled on the tal table, almost covering it, and Xu Cheng was extrely happy to enjoy such a rich feast from her hotown on this alien planet. She rembered soone saying that eating is happiness.
She picked up the skewered at and stuffed it into her mouth, eating so enthusiastically that her mouth was slick with oil, as if the sizzling heat also soaked with grease and the aroma of at.
Looking around, the fortress of the Blood-axe Clan had fallen, but they wouldn’t be able to stay here much longer, as all the green skins on the planet would co soon.
“Those super green skins need proper editing,” Xu Yang thought about the green skins as he ate, “They have to be strong enough to earn respect and loyalty from the tribes, yet still obey human orders.”
“Understood, Father. The essence of the green skins is giant fungal creatures, closely linked to my will. No matter how large they are, they will follow my will. I hope Cain can quickly unify this planet. Oh, right, Father, their genetic information will be passed down through spores, which ans they will reproduce in the universe in the future,” Chishiki said calmly.
“Then suppress the other ordinary green skins? Very possible… Maybe so technological modifications should be included.” Xu Yang felt quite optimistic.
“Isn’t it strange for you to go around with so many green skins? You should be living with so more graceful creatures, but the green skins always feel slly,” Xu Cheng said.
“Yes, the green skins stomp around, shake the ground, have tusks, speak nonsense, and are fiercely aggressive. But they don’t hate , so I don’t dislike them either,” Chishiki replied calmly.
Xu Cheng nodded contentedly. Chishiki was also adorable, no wonder she had helped her before.
After they were full, they went to rest, while on the outer defense line, automatic turrets, robots, and air force units were still active, massacring the green skin army, creating a huge green ring of severed limbs around the fortress.
Thinking of those fallen green skins not actually being dead, just sinking into the soil, soon to sprout into thick new green skins… Xu Cheng still found it quite peculiar.
“The alien planet is terrifying, isn’t it?” Xu Cheng and Chishiki went together to bring food to Bubble.
“Yes, it’s so hot here, and alien monsters are everywhere, and the exotic landscapes—you can’t even appreciate them now, only later co back to explore…” Chishiki said softly.
“What are your future plans? Train your green skins on Proxima Centauri or return to Terra Star?” Xu Cheng asked.
“Of course, I’ll go back ho. I’ve already begun longing for the massage bathtub and the Kyoto Infinity streaming site,” Chishiki smiled.
At this mont, Bubble was sitting outside with her head down. When she saw Xu Cheng and Chishiki approaching, she quickly stood up, “You’re here!”
“We brought you so food,” Xu Cheng handed Bubble the box full of packed als solemnly.
“Thanks!” Bubble hugged the food box and sat down.
Xu Cheng sat beside her, her legs apart; Chishiki sat on the other side, elegantly folding her legs together and brushing her short hair aside with her hand.
They quietly shared the mont. For a mont, Bubble felt like she wasn’t on Proxima Centauri-b, 4.5 light-years away, but back ho, sitting on the porch of a mountain village sumr house with them.
Oh, this mont made Bubble feel cherished, sotis she just wanted sothing so simple, to sit together with Xu Cheng and everyone else, if only they had nothing to do and could just rest… how wonderful that would be.
Sotis what you want most is what you can’t have.
“The things you’re researching are quite complicated, aren’t they, Sister Bubble?” Chishiki asked, “Space… sothing.” She still rembered the isolated state of Bubble’s little cabin during her first visit, wondering what secrets she discovered alone.
“Yes, very complicated stuff.” Just thinking about those spatial theories made Bubble dizzy, with many docunts being remnants from the two ultimate beings, Pan Yuan and Mond, making them difficult to interpret. She had to understand space, grasp it so deeply, as if becoming a part of it herself.
“Why work so hard!” Xu Cheng shouted.
Bubble didn’t reply. She raised her hand towards the dim red Proxima Centauri in the sky.
She hoped to be the key that could open all doors, accomplishing sothing aningful. She could do it, she definitely could, so for a hundred generations, a thousand generations to co, people would look up to the sky without fear, and compared to such a grand vision, Bubble’s existence was insignificant.
“I want to repay everyone’s kindness, thank them for not giving up on soone as unappealing and humble as all this ti…” Bubble murmured.
Xu Cheng pounced and pushed Bubble over.
“You’re not allowed to repay others’ kindness,” Xu Cheng pinched Bubble’s cheeks with both hands, her eyes bright and shining, “You are mine, you’re mine, my Bubble!”
