RAGNA POV

.

.

.

The old hag—no, the old woman—smiled, her face creasing deeply as she ruffled older ssister’s hair. Oge smiled back without hesitation. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, she bent down until her eyes t mine.

She stared straight into , unblinking.

And in that mont, I knew—this woman was anything but ordinary.

The old hag’s mouth kept running, spitting nonsense one word after another—yet sohow, she was smiling while she did all of it. Her wrinkled face softened as she reached out and ruffled my older sister’s hair.

And Oge... actually smiled back. I was completely baffled

’Wait. What?’

As if that wasn’t shocking enough, the woman bent down until her face was level with mine and stared straight into my eyes, still putting on a smile on her expression.

"Don’t tell you forgot already, little brat?"

She puffed out her cheeks in an exaggerated pout, to show whatever childish side left of her. A second later, the act crumbled, revealing a smug smirk on her face.

I almost cursed out loud.

’The hell?! This old hag—no, wait, this old lady—is actually my grandmother?’

’How the fck did no one tell about this until now?!*’

My brain completely short-circuited. I stood there, frozen, feeling like absolute shit. I didn’t even know how I was supposed to feel, or act at this point as I stood there.

Part of wanted to rejoice. If she really was my grandmother, then maybe she wouldn’t bring back whatever feud existed when I was still a baby. Maybe—just maybe—she would ease up on older sister’s treatnt and the ridiculous fees.

But another part of was furious.

No one told d, not once. Not a single word about having family outside our household and then within the village.

And judging by everyone’s reactions... I was the only idiot who didn’t know.

"Young man," she said suddenly, her voice softening, even with her gaze.

"How old are you?"

Her face held the kind of gentle smile a normal grandmother would wear after seeing her grandchild for the first ti in years.

"I’m three years and a few months old," I answered without thinking. "And you?"

The mont the words left my mouth, I wanted to crawl into a hole and die.

’Why did I say that?!’

Still, at that point, I was already certain. She really was my grandma. That only made my embarrassnt worse.

My answer caught her off guard. The irritation in her eyes vanished, replaced by interest and amusent.

"At least a few decades away from the grave," she replied dryly, then laughed out loud, as if telling a joke.

Behind , Mother stiffened. She clearly hadn’t reacted in ti to stop from speaking.

"My little grand son seems quite smart for his age," the old woman added casually.

The room exploded.

"What?! Did she just call that demon child her little son?"

"Isn’t this the first ti she’s ever praised any child?"

Whispers, gasps, disbelief—everything blended together into chaos. I ignored it all.

This was my chance. I wasn’t letting it slip.

"Grandma..."

The word slipped out before I realized it. "...can you heal my big sister for free?"

Her eyebrows rose in amusent. "And what would you offer in exchange for her treatnt?"

Normally, I could tell she wouldn’t even entertain such a question. But now? She looked... curious. Amused, even.

"I’ll work as your apprentice," I said imdiately.

The realization hit a second too late.

’Dammit, I’m rushing again.’

’Is this what happens when you finally et family mbers for the first ti outside your own house? So it feels like living under a rock?’

Still, it wasn’t a bad deal. Two birds, one stone. My older sister gets healed, and I get a way to earn money for the family.

"Really?" she asked. "And what exactly can you do?"

"Yes, Ragna," Mother added sharply. "What can you do?"

I didn’t even need to look at her to feel the danger. Her foot was tapping furiously, and I could practically sense laser beams shooting from her eyes.

I swallowed.

"I can sweep the floor," I said quietly. "And... help out. Be your errand boy."

Then I turned toward Mother and lowered my head.

"I’m sorry, Mother. I just wanted you to know... I’m a big boy now."

The murmuring around us grew louder.

Mother looked shaken. I could tell she didn’t know how much of what I said was real—or how much I was actually capable of. She wanted answers, but not here. Not in front of everyone staring at us with newfound admiration.

She seems impressed, Mother thought silently.

’Maybe this is a turning point for our Ragna. If he can earn her affection... maybe she will break the spell and turn him back into a normal human. I can’t ruin this chance for him.’

She stayed quiet.

The old woman suddenly laughed—truly laughed—for the first ti.

"Then show ," she said. "Would you be willing to do to prove it?"

’Here goes nothing,’ I thought.

Soone quickly brought over a broom, handing it to the midwife, who passed it down to .

I gripped the broom with both hands and began sweeping the dusty floor, brushing away the sand and dirt scattered across it.

If this was the first step toward changing my fate...

Then I wasn’t backing down.
