Chapter 1234: A Tenuous Peace! (2)
After the destruction of the Timeless City, Nelson began to experience a macabre sense of déjà vu, as if he had returned to the time of the Epic Plains when their group targeted Faceless Ancient and everything started to go wrong.
That’s why Nelson became extremely cautious and went underground while also working to stabilize the tumbling ATLAS, but without the Timeless City or its Machina Unit, it was impossible.
However, the ATLAS wasn’t just an ordinary organization, and with God’s backing, Nelson made some progress, but then he received another mission from his Patron God.
The mission to drop everything and find someone called the Cursed One. Moreover, Nelson sensed God’s mirth and agitation when he received this mission, something he had never seen, as God never let his emotions show.
But maybe after turning Nelson into an acolyte, he was able to connect more deeply with that God and sense its strange state.
However, Nelson again sensed something foreboding as this Cursed One seemed to be quite extraordinary since even ATLAS seemed to be pretty riled up about him, and finding him was searching for a needle in a haystack.
But he still managed to find the clues which led him to found the secret fraternity, and even established a connection with the Myth of Reverend using his power as an acolyte.
This way, he successfully tricked the Myth of Reverend into believing he, too, had a connection to the Upper Plains and had been given the same task of finding the Cursed One.
However, Myth of Reverend was pretty tight-lipped about all the information, and only gave him vague clues because the former didn’t fully trust him and probably felt no need to let some unknown God’s ‘Faithful’ interfere with his patron god’s plans.
That’s why Nelson used another trick and leaked information about the Secret Fraternity to the Mystical Coalition, just enough to obstruct the Myth of Reverend, and the latter had no choice but to let Nelson inside.
Yet, just when things were starting to take shape, something unexpected happened again. Because shortly after that, the Holy King, or Myth of Justice, suddenly disappeared with the Champion King’s unexpected downfall, the Mythical Coalition’s Myth of Secrets suffered a terrible backlash, and the Myth of White Swordsman witnessed everything!
That event again derailed everything, and Nelson again got no choice but to take extreme measures, using the ATLAS’s database and the Zodiac Night Federation’s hidden treasury vaults. He managed to forge powerful Quasi-Myth-Rank treasures.
The reason for doing this was to cultivate a legacy given to him by his patron god and make further progress along the path of the Faithful at breakneck speed.
Nelson never even considered using this legacy because it was simply too ghastly, and just to cultivate it, he needed to take massive risks, but it was no doubt powerful, as just to start cultivating it, he needed to be a Legendary King!
However, as the sense of crisis grew sharper and his plans kept failing, he had no choice but to use it. To cultivate that legacy, he began capturing Quasi-Myths, and his first target was naturally the already weakened secret fraternity!
By feeding false information to Myth of Reverend again, he managed to capture two Quasi-Myths of the Secret Fraternity, and everything was going according to plan.
However, he had underestimated the Myth of Reverend, and the former, using his own methods, figured out that his ‘informant’ was an ATLAS spy operating from the Zodiac Night Federation, rather than thinking it was the Cursed One who killed those two Quasi-Myths, as Nelson wanted him to.
Afterward, Nelson disposed of his identity as Nell the moment Myth of Inferno and Myth of Thunder showed up unannounced.
But what he would’ve never expected was that his perfect escape plan had pletely failed against the Myth of Reverend!
Not only did the Myth of Reverend manage to track him down, but the latter even sent him a message that day, just when he was thinking he was safe in that hidden bunker with Ellie and Lucy.
“Hey, Old Monk Fish, or should I call you Nell? Anyway, it’s your old friend, Reverend. You have no idea how sad and devastated I am after I found out that you were a sneak from the ATLAS, and it almost shattered my fragile heart.
“And now, I’m sadly informing you that you didn’t manage to escape us, and we are right above your little hideout. Although it’s impressive, it’s still nothing to me, and now all the escape routes have been blocked!
“But you know what? I’m a pacifist, and I also believe in second chances, especially when I can tell we have a genuine connection. Especially after seeing you with your ‘loved ones,’ and the passion burning inside you for them, it almost moved me to tears!
“However, my friend, I can’t reveal our connection in front of the Mythical Coalition, but don’t worry, I’ll delay them for you as long as I can. I have left ‘one’ escape route for you, and I promise you that it is the ‘only’ unguarded route!
“Moreover, if I were you, I would be very careful because, except for this route, any other route you take will lead to your impending demise, especially those two women, even though I hate to see them gone.
“Lastly, as long as you take this route, it’ll also lead you to the Cursed One. All you need to do is stay on it!
“So, good luck, old friend, and Godspeed, as I’ll pray for your successful escape!”
This mental message was something Nelson would never forget in his life, as he still vividly remembered his heart almost stopping when he heard the voice of the Myth of Reverend that day, and a deadly chill running down his spine.
On that day, he finally understood that it wasn’t just the Faceless Ancient he needed to be wary of, but the Myth of Reverend as well!
