59: Chapter 59: Struggle 59: Chapter 59: Struggle Sun Jinzhong and Zhang Xiu both found chairs to sit on near the corner by the main gate.

Lying on the bamboo bed, Li Hanchu, at first, tossed his head from side to side as if sothing was amiss, having not fallen asleep yet.

However, in only about ten minutes or so, his breathing had beco gradually regular.

Occasionally, there would be bursts of soft snoring.

Chen Hai himself sat on a chair about six or seven steps away from the bamboo bed.

He appeared to be dozing off, but in truth, as soon as Li Hanchu lay down, his Soul Body had departed and transford into a gigantic leech, hovering in the empty space above Li Hanchu’s head.

He intended to use Li Hanchu as a dium to et with the unknown entity that was haunting him, naturally requiring his own life force field to align with Li Hanchu’s.

In his soul state, fine-tuning his own life force field was not at all difficult for Chen Hai.

Back when Liu Jian and the others were preparing to gang up on him, he had already been able to align his field with that of a specific person, allowing his Soul Body, in the form of a leech, to be visible to this person.

Inside the hall, the lighting was sowhat dim.

The lightbulb in Li Hanchu’s ho was not very high wattage, probably around fifteen watts.

In a rural suburb like Yanbei Village, which had only been electrified for a few years, people used to rely on oil lamps.

Though they had electricity, power outages in Yanbei Village were still a common occurrence.

Today, they were lucky that the dim glow of the electric light, no matter how faint, was still infinitely better than lighting an oil lamp!

Li Hanchu, who was lying on the bamboo bed and had now fallen into a deep sleep, with even breathing, suddenly convulsed a few tis.

“Here it cos…” Chen Hai, who had been attentively watching him, shuddered inwardly.

He looked around and saw that across the hall, a figure swiftly passed by the frosted glass window.

In the next mont, that figure simply floated through the wall and drifted over.

Dressed in flowered clothing, with a kerchief tied around her head, and holding a basket in her hand, the resentful spirit’s appearance was roughly similar to what Li Hanchu had described.

Under the dim yellow light, this resentful spirit cast no shadow at all.

Her face was blurry, and since the mont she floated in, Chen Hai’s gaze had remained fixed upon her.

Unfortunately, despite staring for a long while, he still could not make out her features clearly.

“So fools never learn their lesson, coming to stop from eting my dear Li…

seeking death…”

Seeing the large leech that Chen Hai had beco, the resentful spirit was visibly startled.

Earlier, she had already fought with the Weasel Demon behind Mrs.

Ge, and now, the sight of Chen Hai once again blocking her way made her anger flare up even more.

“Ah…”

On her barely discernible face, her small mouth suddenly widened into a gaping maw.

The screech that emanated from her mouth was soul-shaking.

“Sizzle…

Sizzle…

Sizzle…”

The electric light inside the hall, after flickering on and off a few tis, burst out with a ‘bang.’

“Why did the lightbulb suddenly burst?

I rember that bulb was just replaced less than half a year ago?”

From the corner near the main gate, Zhang Xiu muttered.

The resentful spirit’s screech was not within the frequency range that normal people could hear; in more common terms, the sound could be considered to be in the range of infrasound waves.

Although Zhang Xiu and Sun Jinzhong could not hear the screech, they witnessed the flickering and subsequent exploding of the light bulb quite clearly.

“Cousin, has sothing happened?

Could it be that thing haunting Uncle Hanchu has already arrived…”

Compared to the sowhat thick-skinned Zhang Xiu, Sun Jinzhong, upon noticing sothing off inside the house, imdiately considered this possibility.

Speaking of which, this guy always boasted about his tough street life, occasionally getting into fights and brawls, but he never seed to shy away.

However, when it ca to dealing with so strange and unknown entities, he really lacked courage!

In the few sentences he asked Chen Hai, there was a noticeable chattering of teeth in his voice.

In his encounter with the resentful spirit, Chen Hai had intended to reason with her to see if he could persuade her.

Unfortunately, this idea was far too wishful on his part.

After a shriek, the woman in the flowered dress, with claws bared, lunged straight towards him.

As Sun Jinzhong was asking his questions, Chen Hai was already entangled in a struggle with the woman and had no ti to pay attention to Sun.

The battle between one man and one spirit was without patterns or any sort of thod to speak of.

The woman’s ten fingernails, black and shiny, were like razor blades, with her main mode of attack being to tear, rip, and scratch.

Chen Hai’s greatest advantage was his thick skin and extraordinary life force.

Scratched a few tis by the resentful spirit’s nails, he could completely ignore it, instead seizing the opportunity to bite back fiercely at the spirit.

At the start of the fight, the resentful spirit was just able to keep up with Chen Hai.

But in less than ten minutes, Chen Hai was still full of vigor, whereas the resentful spirit had already begun to flag noticeably.

In battle against a Demon Soul, Chen Hai could devour all of its strength clean away if he found the chance.

When his opponent changed to a soul, he had thought there would be no power for him to devour.

But now, he discovered that his previous thoughts were just a mistaken assumption.

“The beautiful girl’s, so big, yo-ho yo-ho!”

“Damn it…”

A pregnant woman nad Xiaoju was cutting pigweed up the mountain, and when she passed a certain peak, several Japanese Soldiers suddenly erged from a hidden cave nearby.

Xiaoju ran for her life, while several Japanese Soldiers madly pursued her.

When she fell into the hands of those soldiers and was forcibly dragged into that hidden cave, a scene of utter inhumanity began.

Just defiling her would’ve been rciful.

Those beasts bet on whether the child in her womb was a boy or a girl, and, while she was still conscious, they sliced open her belly with a bayonet.

With a sky-high grudge and an unresolved resentnt, Xiaoju transford into a spirit upon death.

Every ti Chen Hai, transford into a giant leech, took a bite at the resentful spirit, fragnts of mories would surface before his eyes.

In his battle with this spirit, what he devoured was not her power, but her mories.

It was because of these mories that the woman in the flowery dress was filled with unresolved resentnt.

As her mories were continually devoured by Chen Hai, the resentnt in her began to dissipate rapidly.

“You’re also a pitiful person.

I will help you exhu your bones, so you may rest in peace.”

In less than half an hour, the resentful spirit was already disoriented, with hardly any resentnt left.

Chen Hai stopped fighting her and heaved a sigh, making his promise.

As he finished speaking, the last bit of resentnt from the spirit completely vanished, turning into specks of white light that dissipated into the void.
