The small courtyard was crowded with people.

The Jiushan Sect’s high-ranking mbers all arrived at the courtyard, watching Gu Chang with great interest.

Gu Chang looked uneasy, while Zheng Fa stood beside him with a smile, feeling as though he finally understood Elder Yuan’s joy.

"Has Gu Chang possibly cracked part of the Gu God’s secrets?" Master Pang stared at Gu Chang, his expression sowhat incredulous.

"Gu Chang, you tell them."

Zheng Fa did not intend to steal the lilight from his main disciple; on the other hand, he also hoped that Gu Chang could establish a certain level of prestige, to better take on responsibilities in the future.

Seeing the encouragent and pride on his Master’s face, Gu Chang took a deep breath and began to speak:

"Disciple may have discovered how the Gu God controls the sea of insects."

"Explain! From the very beginning!"

Master Pang urged, faced with the threat of insect swarms, this discovery was undeniably important to the Jiushan Sect.

Yet on the other hand, he still seed sowhat skeptical that Zheng Fa’s main disciple, who had not even yet reached the Nascent Soul Stage, could unravel the secrets of the True Immortal.

Zheng Fa nodded at Gu Chang, indicating that he should speak more in detail—after all, this concerned the entire battle situation, and he brought everyone here to see if the theory held, and to identify any flaws, to avoid mistakes.

It was akin to holding an academic presentation on the battlefield.

"Disciple and Junior Sister researched gu insects, and a question arose..." Gu Chang thought for a mont and slowly continued, "What is a gu?"

"Later, I ca to know: without Spiritual Energy, they are insects; with Spiritual Energy, they are gu."

"But then I had another question, why can gu absorb Spiritual Energy?"

Senior Sister Zhang was startled and glanced at Zheng Fa, her eyes saying just one thing: such a wealth of questions, your disciple certainly lives up to you.

Zheng Fa’s smile deepened as he heard a disciple in the Nascent Soul Stage ask, "Is there anything wrong with gu absorbing Spiritual Energy?"

In Jiushan Sect, academic discussions are customarily open, and Gu Chang was not annoyed, but simply explained: "Think about it, for humans to absorb Spiritual Energy, we rely on complex nerve structures; even the Demon Race requires corresponding Spiritual Energy circuits within their bodies for cultivation."

"Insects, even gu insects, seldom develop such complex structures." As he said this, Gu Chang added, "Actually, I have not found gu insects with the corresponding structure, but it’s possible the Gu God nurtured them."

Upon hearing his words, the mbers of Jiushan Sect all nodded, indeed finding the matter sowhat peculiar.

If gu insects could cultivate, it would contradict the previous research of the Jiushan Sect on Spiritual Energy and Spirit Roots.

If they could not, then their bodies indeed contain Spiritual Energy.

"So was our previous conclusion wrong?" Master Pang asked with a frown.

"Disciple believes it was not." As a major contributor to the Spirit Root theory, Gu Chang firmly stated, "Moreover, I am deducing Gu Dao from the Spirit Root theory."

"Ah?"

Most people were a bit puzzled, only Zheng Fa’s smile deepened.

"The Spirit Root, in essence, is the structure of nerves." As Gu Chang talked about a topic he was interested in, he beca more at ease, "But nerves are essentially composed of cellular tissues."

"ssages are mostly transmitted between them through various hormones."

Senior Sister Zhang showed a slight realization on her face, seeming to understand.

But most people still listened with confusion.

"Gu insects, although their structure is sowhat more complex than cells, do they also transmit through similar substances between each other?"

"I then consulted so books Master brought back and discovered the pheromone theory, which matched my idea."

"Later, in a petri dish, I found so substances containing Spiritual Energy, and through experintation, I determined that these gu insects seed to fight, mate, and move because of these substances."

"The entity that can cultivate is not a single gu insect, but... the swarm."

There was a silence among the crowd, and Master Pang spoke slowly after a long pause: "You an, among the swarms of insects, they rely on certain... substances to transmit information, thereby establishing complex organizational structures, to substitute our Spirit Roots?"

"Exactly so." Gu Chang thought for a bit, then added, "In fact, to go deeper, our human body is itself a collection of various ’insects’, only these ’insects’ have simple structures and don’t run around."

People understood this statent.

According to Gu Chang’s explanation, human cells are indeed special ’insects’—although they don’t crawl around, they can actually be seen as a type of microbe.

"So, an insect turning into gu is equivalent to our body’s cells evolving due to cultivation?"

"Exactly so."

"The Gu God..."

"The Gu God should be the collection of all gu insects, with those gu being her cells."

Zheng Fa looked at Gu Chang, and there was a bit of admiration in his expression.

This disciple gave him a pleasant surprise.

Thinking up the pheromone theory might be straightforward, as modern research on insects is actually quite in-depth already.

But using the pheromone theory and the Spirit Root System to inversely explain the truth of Gu Dao requires so creativity.

Simply put, according to this theory, the Dharma Body of the Gu God is essentially the swarm, or rather, each gu insect is akin to a cell of hers—which is precisely why the Nine Nether Demon Ancestor remarked that her Dharma Body is unique.

Furthermore, the consciousness of the Gu God is likely an aggregation of the swarm’s consciousness, resembling how the human body, through complex biological interactions among nurous simple cells, transmits information and ultimately produces intelligence.

Gu Dao is a thod of cultivation that replaces the complexity of an organism’s structure with the complexity of its ecological organization.

Master Pang looked at the gu insects within the laboratory, his scalp seemingly tingling: "So, we’ve always been watched by the Gu God?"

"Master Uncle, as long as we sever the transmission of information between the gu insects, the Gu God naturally cannot perceive us."
