Cultivating through increasing my stats in America Chapter 234 - 169: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes3
...
After two consecutive failed plans, even Loren-Hansen was considerably annoyed; he hadn’t expected the kid’s luck to be so good.
Florida was Li Ang’s ho turf, so if he had the right connections to solve the trouble, it wouldn’t have been that surprising, but to escape such a dead end today was undoubtedly vexing.
However, missing out on these two best opportunities, there weren’t many good options left for him afterwards.
Now that his team mbers were all together, and with two accidents back to back, they were certainly on guard, and with Olsad the old fox around, attempting to strike without leaving a trace was now extrely difficult.
If he got caught in the act, it would an direct disqualification by the organizers, a loss far outweighing any potential gain.
The two days passed quickly, and the day of the race finally arrived.
In the past two days, the street traffic near the venue had multiplied several tis over, with the additional crowds naturally comprised of spectators who had co to watch the race.
Li Ang also arrived at the venue early. Although today was the day the race began, there were various procedures and ceremonies to attend before it officially started.
The race was divided into seven stages, extending from the coast all the way to the High Ridge Mountains, crossing over 965 kiloters of major locations in California.
Watching the bustling crowd in front of him, he felt quite excited; although it was not the highest-level race he had participated in, it definitely had the largest audience.
He scanned the crowd, and his excellent vision allowed him to spot an old acquaintance instantly.
Since there was plenty of ti before the race began, they could move around freely for now.
"Hi, Eric, you ca too?"
The Erick Brothers, upon seeing Li Ang, waved at him excitedly.
"This is the biggest bicycle race in the country, of course I had to co and see. For this race, I even skipped a week of classes."
Little Eric’s cheeks were slightly red, and he seed quite proud as he spoke.
Li Ang had t the person next to them too; it was their friend from the Falcon Club, Peter.
The Falcon Club naturally did not qualify for a race of this level, but that didn’t stop them from usually coming to observe.
The person in question, however, still seed to harbor so biases against Li Ang, only offering a lukewarm greeting.
Li Ang didn’t bother with him; they weren’t close to begin with.
"Look, there’s Sarin Bennett, a racer from the Continental Team and one of our own from Florida. He used to be in one of the top dostic clubs, Speed Club, and then his career took off as he directly joined the Continental Team."
Peter from the Falcon Club spoke excitedly as he observed a racer.
Li Ang had not heard of this racer before, but he did rember the Speed Club.
Back when he competed in the Florida amateur cyclist competition, the individual who ca second overall and in the youth category was Holt, known as a young prodigy from that club.
After so much ti had passed, he wondered if Holt had beco a professional cyclist.
The group chattered away, but soon their attention was diverted to another group of people.
"Look, that’s Patrice! This guy is a genius cyclist who joined the Continental Team in just the past two years. You should know, out of the only two black cyclists in Arica’s two Continental Teams, he is one of them."
Li Ang smiled too as he joined the frenzy. He hadn’t expected to bump into his own team during the spectacle and asked with so curiosity:
"This Patrice, is he any good?"
"Do you even need to ask?"
Peter rolled his eyes, clearly realizing Li Ang was just pretending and had already declared himself to be the genius of the team, yet now did not even know his own teammate.
Nevertheless, he patiently explained:
"Patrice won countless amateur race championships within less than two years of starting his career, and went pro as soon as he ca of age.
Many thought that his performance would stagnate upon entering the pro scene, but he continued to excel, far surpassing his peers, and even beat many Continental and even Continental Pro Team cyclists. That caught the eye of Manager Olsad, who brought him into the Continental Pro Team."
"And since joining the Continental Pro Team, his performance has been steadily improving. From this year, he has even closely approached the team’s second-best cyclist, though that was before that mysterious record-breaking genius joined. After his arrival, no matter how hard Patrice tries, the best he could hope for is third place."
Li Ang had not expected this unremarkable guy, ’Little Black’, to have such an extensive background, but it made sense; even Rafe, who placed in the mid to low ranks in their team, was still an untouchable presence among regular professional cyclists.
The Erick Brothers, listening to the conversation between the two, were also beginning to understand the situation.
It was clear that Peter had never believed that Li Ang was the genius on the Continental Pro Team, so when Li Ang asked, he answered as such.
However, it was tricky for them to intervene in this matter, so they could only wait for the race to start and then everyone would naturally learn if Li Ang was that genius.
Just then, as they were scrutinizing Patrice, he suddenly made his way over to them.
"Hey, it looks like he’s coming this way. Can we get his autograph later? Do you have a pen, Eric? Quick, get the pen out!"
Peter was so excited he almost jumped up, a stark contrast to his attitude when Li Ang signed for him last ti.
Little Eric was sowhat excited as well, since Patrice was Li Ang’s teammate, getting his autograph was bound to be a breeze.
