You can’t go around beating people on Xian’er’s turf, especially not children. He’s a magnanimous and kind elder.
The Miao King took a deep breath, suppressing the overwhelming urge to give Yu Zichuan a good thrashing; he forced a smile that didn’t reach his eyes and patted Yu Zichuan on the shoulder. "Good boy, go to sleep. I won’t get beaten up because I’ve co up with a brilliant idea."
Yu Zichuan: "Oh, now I want to see it even more."
Miao King: He was going to beat him into a at patty!
The Miao King wasn’t bluffing when he said he had an idea—it was a trump card sure to win over Xian’er completely.
"Little Piggy, Grandpa’s here!"
The Miao King strode into Bao Shu’s room with purpose, pushed open the door, fixed his gaze on the scene, and his smile froze.
"Where is everyone?"
Where did his little trump card go?!
anwhile, after Lu Yuan took ng Qianqian back to their room, Liu Muye was left alone.
She stood before the window, gazing at the layered mountains in the distance. Emotions she hadn’t felt stirring for years now surged like raging waves.
Her figure was composed, yet the faint glimr in her eyes shone as though the Milky Way had descended from the heavens.
The night wind swept through.
The wind chi hanging beneath the eaves jingled softly.
Her gaze fell on the swaying wind chi and the Miaojiang totem carved into it. Muttering under her breath, a complex expression flickered across her features.
Suddenly, gentle knocking ca from outside the door.
Liu Muye gathered her thoughts, her expression reverting to calm before she walked toward the door and slowly opened it.
She saw a small dumpling of a child sprawled at her door, dressed in an outfit patterned with little tiger cubs, topped with a tiger-head hat, and tiger-head shoes. The child, supporting their head with one hand, struck a miniature reclining Buddha pose, exuding endless charm as they pretended to nap before Liu Muye.
Liu Muye was startled at first before breaking into a fond smile.
She crouched down and picked up the little one. "You must be Bao Shu, right?"
Bao Shu raised her tiny chin with imnse pride, nodded, and opened her eyes to call out in her baby-soft voice, "Great-Grandma."
Then, she flopped dramatically onto Liu Muye’s lap, sticking her tongue out and letting her eyes dazzle like shooting stars.
Liu Muye was startled. "What’s wrong?"
Qing Shuang, who had been waiting nearby, appeared and glanced at the young mistress. In a calm tone, she said, "She fainted from your beauty."
Liu Muye: "..."
After moving to the Capital City, Liu Qingyun had sent letters to Liu Muye, describing the Governor Mansion’s situation and briefly ntioning this child.
Earlier, Lu Yuan had also spoken about her.
The two had simply said she’s wild.
But wild where? She seed like an obedient little darling to Liu Muye.
Unbeknownst to her, Liu Muye had yet to experience Treasure Piggy’s true destructive nature. The little dumpling nestled softly in her arms, allowing Liu Muye to hold and cuddle her freely, lting her once-stone-cold heart into mush.
"Great-Grandma, you’re beautiful."
The first thing Bao Shu said after snapping out of her dazed state was to complint Liu Muye.
"Chubby White is not beautiful. Chubby White is bad. He won’t let Baby see Great-Grandma and even hit Baby."
Her second sentence? She decisively tattled on Liu Qingyun.
The more serious she looked, the more serious her words sounded.
Liu Qingyun, hearing the tattling even from her courtyard, stord over furiously to grab the lying little rascal. "Lying with your eyes open. Who hit you?"
Liu Muye said coldly, "You dare scold her even with here? I can only imagine how you bully the child when I’m not around."
"Mom! I didn’t!"
If anything, wasn’t she the one always getting bullied? Who could understand the pain of picking up poop and babysitting her little brothers, caught amidst the stink of bodily chaos every day?
Liu Muye: "You used to con Ayuan; now you’ve shifted gears to Bao Shu. Seems like the one who deserves a thrashing is you!"
Liu Qingyun cried out in grievance, "I swear I didn’t—"
On her first day ho, Liu Qingyun ended up hanging from a tree branch by her own mother.
"Xian’er, don’t be mad. If my daughter’s at fault, punish her if you must. However, after you punish her, you’re not allowed to punish anymore!"
Liu Qingyun: "..."
A quarter hour later, the Miao King was also hanging from a tree branch.
Father and daughter stared wide-eyed at each other, looking like two enormous silkworm cocoons suspended by silk threads, swaying creakily in the cold wind.
Yu Zichuan was perched on the roof across from them, having secured the perfect vantage spot, polishing his bow.
Lu Yuan passed by.
The Miao King cried out mournfully, "You little punk, what happened to putting in a good word for ?"
Lu Yuan replied frankly, "I already did."
The Miao King: "This is the outco of your good words? Are you even capable of anything?"
Lu Yuan: "I only promised to say sothing favorable. I never guaranteed Grandma would listen."
The Miao King erupted, "And you said I could stay the night!"
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow. "You did stay—on the tree."
The Miao King: "...!!"
"Argh! Chubby White, how did you give birth to such a devious little brat?"
Liu Qingyun, even more agitated, shouted, "How should I know? Could it be that you’re too conniving yourself, and he learned it from you? Like father, like son, right?"
The Miao King felt his heart shatter into a million pieces.
Wahhh, hopeless!
Lu Yuan, satisfied after watching the commotion, returned to his room feeling refreshed.
ng Qianqian asked, "Are Mom and Grandpa okay?"
Lu Yuan replied, "Sa as usual. No need to worry."
Getting beaten was their daily routine.
ng Qianqian, unaware of the unique dynamic among the Miao King, Liu Muye, and their daughter’s family, assud they were happily bonding right now, playing with the grandchildren together.
She asked again, "Will Bao Shu sleep over with us tonight?"
Lu Yuan said, "Grandma decided Bao Shu will sleep with her."
ng Qianqian breathed a sigh of relief. She had initially been worried that Grandma wouldn’t like Bao Shu, but it now seed Grandma was quite fond of her.
Understandably so—who could resist a little one as adorable as Bao Shu?
Lu Yuan imdiately knew what she was thinking, and his lips twitched. That little rascal only behaved in front of you; when it ca to others, she caused trouble without batting an eye.
Late night.
The busy couple had finally retired for the evening.
ng Qianqian turned over, facing Lu Yuan. "Husband, are you asleep yet?"
Lu Yuan lay flat with hands crossed on his stomach, his eyes closed, and replied blandly, "Do you need sothing?"
ng Qianqian scooted closer to him, propped herself up with one arm, and stared at him intently. "I’ve been thinking carefully, and I still feel it’s inappropriate to deceive Grandma. I’ve always believed in repaying kindness tenfold. Grandma has treated with such sincerity, and if I were to keep playing tricks on her, I’d feel too guilty."
Lu Yuan said blandly, "So?"
ng Qianqian blinked. "Do you want to settle the debt with tonight?"
Lu Yuan abruptly opened his eyes, turned his head, and stared at her incredulously for a mont. "ng Xiaojiu, did you take the wrong dicine again?"
ng Qianqian: "I couldn’t possibly have so much wrong dicine to take."
Lu Yuan: "Before you left, you specifically asked Princess Wanping for a bottle of ginger pills. She had soone inform about it."
ng Qianqian: "That’s what she told you?"
Heavens above, Princess Wanping!
Another sche against her!
She’d clearly gone to confront Princess Wanping and entrust her with the care of Grandma and Lu’s mother!
How did it turn into her seeking ginger pills?
Lu Yuan said coolly, "ng Xiaojiu, you need to control yourself."
ng Qianqian: "..."
There was no way to clear up this misunderstanding!
