Chapter 244 Toward the Camus family
Nesis was speechless.
After killing Marcus, the second in charge of the Camus Family, she chased the black light all the way to Camus family's hotown.
Talk about fate and coincidences.
"I see, so that's why they are walking around with heads held high..."
Nesis chuckled.
"With the second most influential noble family behind them, I can understand why they are so cocky..."
"Please, they don't deserve the attention they are getting..."
The guy pursed his lips in disdain.
"So what if they are the second most influential noble power in all of empire, they still ate dust and ca back dishonored."
"Oh?"
Nesis asked with intrigue.
"What happened?"
"My little sister, it seems you have much to learn..."
The stranger wasn't aware that a level 4 origin master called him Big brother just a few minutes ago. If he did, he would probably be over cloud nine in happiness.
"You think they are here to show off? No, they ca back as reinforcents!"
Nesis flinched.
"Reinforcents? Did sothing happen in the Camus family?"
"Yeah, and it's huge..."
The stranger looked around warily as if he didn't want anyone to listen in on them. He furtively told Nesis.
"Apparently, there's a ghost haunting the Camus family!"
"Ghost haunting?"
This was getting interesting.
"Please, give the details."
"Well, I heard it from soone else..."
The guy scratched the back of his head.
"Word on the street is that soone heard ghostly wails and shrieks in the deep of night yesterday."
"That's what you ant by a haunting?"
Nesis looked at the knight squad in puzzlent.
"If that's the case, why do they need to recall their forces from elsewhere?"
The stranger recalled the version of the story he heard and he started explaining while rubbing his palms in apprehension.
"You see, whenever the scary voices ca, the patrols would find one or two corpses that looked like a demonic beast ate them entirely, leaving only bones here!"
Nesis knitted her brows.
"You said the bodies were licked clean?..."
She looked in the direction where the knight squad left and her eyes flashed with various theories.
"That does sound like sothing's awry..."
"Yeah yeah! I know right!"
The stranger stuck his chest out with pride.
"I know a friend who works as a sentry for the Camus' family, he told the guards found bodies without fail every ti they heard the inhuman shrieks. Victims range from guards, patrols, and servants. The modus operandi looks to be the sa, each lost significant body mass as if so beast mauled them. It's the stuff of nightmares, I am telling you!"
"In just one short night..."
The guy stuck out two fingers.
"Over twenty victims were found dead. That scared the crap out of the corrupt nobles who called the knights back to bolster defenses and investigate the root cause..."
"I am not too shocked though..."
The guy sneered in disgust.
"So days ago, word got around that Marcus, the second-in-charge of the Camus Family had transford into a monster. Then, he got slain by so dude over there. Given that case, I am not surprised another monster popped up here..."
"So, that's why they are on high alert..."
'They didn't know he was a famous assassin that Marcus. Well, I'm surprised.'
Nesis didn't listen to the stranger's elaborate explanation any longer. Without minding the stranger blabbering, she walked away.
?????
As expected of the Camus Family's turf, the economy and the city planning here is easily one of the best in the surrounding. Maybe it was because the weather was great, it looks like a majority of the citizens were outdoors today. It was not to the extent where everyone's squeezing each other for space but it was definite rowdier than your average city.
Tagging behind the knight squad, Nesis didn't wander around like a lost tourist. She had a clearer objective in mind, with the knight squad clearing the way in front of her, her investigation process beca smoother and more efficient.
Alas, the knight squad slowed down after half an hour. The people walking around thinned out as the path got wider.
Soon, a building so large it can only be called a castle appeared in front of the squad of knights.
The cocky knights also changed their attitudes when they approached the palace. They exuded a professional and honorable air around them. They adjusted their footsteps when they drew closer to the building.
This squad was made up of lower-ranking knights of the Camus Family. They averaged level 6 in power. The leader has tier 5 strength. In the Cyto family, this knight squad is second-rate. Even so, that didn't dissuade them from walking around town like they owned the city.
The great three noble houses, the fa, and reputation they held made them arrogant.
In a vacant plot near the castle, the knight squad stopped. Nesis could finally see the whole ensemble. It wasn't just this squad, other squads were arriving in droves. It looks like they are trying to organize an army here, it was certainly impressive to see.
The Camus family didn't just recall a part of their forces, it looks like they recalled all of their outstation personnel. It seems like they are treating this haunting with a more severe undertone.
It wasn't just because the Camus officials are afraid of dying.
Their entire clan was in a precarious position.
Three days ago, Marcus was found to have been transford into a monster. This news has since spread far and wide in the entire empire. Even citizens got wind of this, naturally, the news of their second-in-charge turning into a monster and then subsequently killed brought great sha and disgrace upon the clan. Fortunately, his affiliation with an assassin organization wasn't brought to the light if not, it would have done them greater damage. As a family that pride himself to be a good family, being associated with such organization could not be made public, it would their great image.
If Marcus's disgrace was not enough, another problem arose.
In their ho turf, there was news of a man-eating demon. If they played their cards wrong, the Camus Family might beco known as the clan of demons.
