Braelyn’s POV

My back was aching. A sharp hiss escaped my lips, my eyes fluttered open, and I found myself in a dark, unfamiliar room, hugging a pillow.

"Where am I?" I mumbled, face buried in the soft pillow which slled of cleaning agents. The sheets were fresh, this was probably a guest room.

Was I in Lucien’s ho? I wondered, slowly sitting upright. My clothes were still the sa and there wasn’t any sign of him.

My throat felt parched. God, I needed a glass of water. Half asleep, I groggily got off the bed and walked barefoot out of the room to get a cup of water..

Close to the stairs a familiar voice drifted to my ears in the dark silence. I imdiately sobered up overhearing Lucien on a phone call.

"What do you an you don’t know who authorised it?" He asked, sounding irritated by the person on the call. Lucien hissed.

"Then find out who authorises the attack." I was trying to figure out where his voice was coming from but it was hard in this dark house. My eyes widened. Was he trying to enquire about the attack tonight?

Did Lucien have a connection with the Mafia? It was hard to be believed, Lucien was too lazy for that, but he seed to know sothing I didn’t.

I slowly continued down the stairs to keep my presence subtle. Sothing in my guts told he didn’t want anyone knowing he was talking about on the phone.

His voice beca clearer the closer I drew to the foot of the stairs.

"Everything seed planned. How did they know she was coming tonight, and from the look of things, it was mostly an assassination attempt."

Assassination!!! Soone wanted dead.

My chest tightened. Was that about ? No... it couldn’t be. Could it?

My heart jumped, and I missed a step, twisting my ankle. A sharp pain shot through the body. A startled scream was inextricably slipped out of my throat as I lost balance and fell down the stairs.

Before I could hit the floor, an arm circled around my waist. In the darkness, his voice sounded unusually cold.

"What are you doing creeping around in the dark?" He asked. Lucien.

I panicked and shoved him hard. Lucien refused to let go and we both ended up tumbling to the floor. Only for to end up straddling his waist while my palm road on his bare torso.

His muscles were pretty firm and built. A soft magnetic chuckle rang through the darkness. "This view is pretty lovely. Seems like soone is anxious to ride my cock." Lucien chid and my soul left my body.

What was wrong with the narcissist? Then it registered that I was sitting across from his little brother. My cheeks burned imdiately. How did we end up in this position

"How can you say sothing like that?" I blurted out, frozen in place. The area was dimly lit but I was certain he had a wide grin on his face now.

"I see nothing wrong with what I said besides you don’t mind sitting there. I might mistake it as you taking the initiative." My stomach churned and my heart started pounding

I quickly jumped off him, what was wrong with ? Lucien managed to sit up on the floor while I ran from my life

I barely stood on my feet when I stumbled backwards, falling into his arms. Shit, my ankle was killing .

Lucien grabbed my injured leg. "It looks like you injured your ankle." He said with a calm tone, the earlier teasing tone had completely disappeared..

"I’m sorry...I didn’t an to bother you." I apologise. My voice was barely a whisper but I was certain he heard . Lucien sighed

"Can you walk?" He asked before I could even give a reply. I was already scooped into his arms.

"I don’t think I can walk on my twisted ankle "My hands were looped around his shoulders. His body trembled with a laugh.

"That’s obvious. Should be careful next ti you go snooping around in the dark." Lucien snorted. My lips pursed into a thin line.

Lucien didn’t have any difficulty navigating the house with the lights practically switched off. The light switch was turned on, and we were in the kitchen.

He carried straight to the counter where he made sit before moving to the refrigerator. "I wasn’t snooping around ." I finally defended myself

"How believable." He sneered still searching in the fridge.

I pouted my cheeks. It was half true. "I am telling the truth. I ca down to get a glass of water. " Lucien seed to have stopped for a mont before he turned around with a bag of frozen peas and a bottle of water.

His eyes narrowed on like he was trying to read through . It was hard holding his gaze. Lucien quietly walked towards

He placed the frozen bag of peas on my ankle. A sharp cry slipped out, tears lingered in my eyes feeling the cold sensation against the pain

"Stop squirming around. We have to stop the area from swelling." He instructed to study my injured feet.

"It doesn’t look that serious," Lucien added. His voice sounded firm like he was certain of what he was saying.

My brow arched at him. "What makes you certain? It’s not like you are a doctor." I taunted. The pain in my ankle was telling another thing. It felt like sothing broke.

His expression remained stern. "I do have a dical degree with just one year of practice. dicine wasn’t as exciting as I expected it to be so I left after I got bored." He said with a straight face.

My jaw dropped. "You have a dical degree." I gasped. He didn’t look like the studious type. How did he pass the exams?

He smirked. "Your thoughts are written all over your face Braelyn." He sighed. Lucien stepped back and then handed the bottle of cold water he had just opened.

"I actually graduated with distinctions. It was hard but let’s say I’m the type that always makes sure to get what my mind is set on..." He paused and his gaze drew to my lips...

"No matter how challenging it was." He added. I nervously gulped. His words seed to have another aning.

Despite swallowing a mouthful of water, my throat was still very dry. Why did his gaze turn heated?

Lucien smirked, his face suddenly leaning closer. Too close for comfort. I tried to back away. Lucien stepped back laughing hard.

"Be careful or you might choke on your water. Although I prefer you choke on sothing else."

That was it? I spat a mouthful of water after choking on it. Did he have to turn every conversation into a dirty one?!

I glared hard at him. He definitely wanted to have a heart attack.
