Braelyn’s POV

I was slowly losing my mind. I didn’t know how long I had been in here but it felt like ages. The cells were dark and quiet..too quiet I could hear my own breathing echoing off the walls

I wasn’t beaten or tortured but the isolation was getting to my mind. My body was curled up in a fetal position on a small mattress that barely reached my body, the bulb flickering from above.

My stomach was growling. I hadn’t eaten anything aside from dry bread and water the guards sent when I was at the brink of losing my mind from starvation

I didn’t know where the caras were but I was certain they were watching from the shadows. Do I regret it? At this point I don’t even know, Alia was the one who most likely told the Orlovs the truth.

One way or the other she was going to get rid of . Honestly, I didn’t ask for much. All I wanted was peace, I was tired of the chaos..

.

Maybe I should have gone to Lucien but that was a risky bet....Who knows if Lucien knows the truth and was just playing the long ga? He was ruthless and terrifying.

My stomach grumbled again. I bit my lips hard. At this rate, I might die from malnutrition and the crazy part was that I should count myself lucky. With the grudge Yelena had against , there were many more ways to deal with . Torture, assault...the list continues

A loud click sound rang and my head snapped up staring at the door as I dragged my aching body to sit up on the bed that was in a far corner of the cell. The door was pushed open and a figure stepped in.

It was the sa guy who fed every day. I didn’t know anything about him, aside from the fact that he called my princess and just stared at while I ate.

If he was feeling generous, he would talk to . As much as I hated him I looked forward to his appearances. Food and a bit of company here was priceless

"Hello Princess.." he chid with the sa mocking tone as he walked into the cell. He stood at the bar and his gaze studied for a while. I just stared at him, hunger written in my eyes.

My gaze was locked on the bag he held. A long sigh escaped his lips. He squatted down and passed the bag through the bars to . I imdiately gathered every inch of strength I had to walk over to the bag he dropped. It looked different from the regular bread he brought for .

I snatched it without a second thought and quickly opened it. A savoury aroma struck at once and I froze staring at the burger and fries he brought with a Coke. I glanced up at him confused why he was getting a burger.

He brought his finger on his lip. "It is a secret..let’s say a present to you for being so well-behaved " he chid.

I sat on the floor just staring at the al. My stomach twisted, I was starving but scared about this al. So far throughout this period, I never questioned the guards and stayed quiet most of the ti

It was pointless when they weren’t going to answer my questions and talking was just going to drain out. Yet I couldn’t help but ask. "Is this my last al?" I asked, and tears welled up in my eyes. Never in my life have I been wary of a al.

But I knew they hated , they would never show kindness. Two thoughts plagued my mind, either this was poisoned or it was my last al before they killed .

A smile curled up his lips followed by a laugh. "That’s the first ti you are talking to ..." I gulped fighting the urge to wolf down everything. The bag was still warm too. I have prayed for sothing with flavour that wasn’t dry bread and water but now I wouldn’t dare eat it.

I smile at his voice. "Well, Madam Yelena made it clear she loathes my existence. So DoorDash isn’t sothing you give to a captive you hate.." I snorted. It was crazy how I still couldn’t be sarcastic in my situation

He nodded slightly. "The order was to keep you alive.." he chid. "Bread and water were sufficient and yes this isn’t from Yelena but . You haven’t cost any trouble.." he explained leaving stunned

"Isn’t that against your orders?" I blurted out. He didn’t reply

I just stared at him, still wary. He sighed then stepped back placing his hand in his pocket. "That’s enough of a question, eat if you want to. It isn’t poisoned. Yelena still needs you alive." He snapped at .

"If she wanted you dead you wouldn’t have a cosy cell with heating, a bed and a toilet. That is peak luxury Princess treatnt," he explained. "If Yelena wanted to show you hell you would be praying for death with tears of blood and not being pampered. No one had even hit you."

He didn’t explain in detail but it still made shudder. He scoffed then pulled out a cigarette he held between his lips. It was lit yet

"Later Princess. " he drawled then walked to the door, shutting it behind . The screeching sound made my ears bled then the cell was plunged into darkness again

I stared at the food before , the earlier conversation replayed in my head. My eyes darted around the room. Everything he said was true. Yelena was giving the Princess treatnt compared to the torture I expected

Why? Didn’t she hate my gut? After all, I called her daughter the other woman? The woman who destroyed Katerina’s marriage the sa way Alia destroyed mine

My nose caught another wisp of the burger aroma. I was always practically drooling looking at it.

I gulped nervously reaching for the bag. I didn’t have much of a choice did I? My brain couldn’t think on an empty stomach...
