Braelyn’s POV
What happens when you give a child the choice to make decisions? I had the answer to that question today
Genny had told Alora she was free to say where she wanted to go, and without batting an eye, she said the amusent park. It wasn’t a bad idea, but going to the park in the early hours of noon on a weekday felt a bit off.
Regardless Alora was excited the entire drive when Genny told her about this new pack that just opened up. It had everything, a gaming house, fun rides, cosplay players, an aquarium, a movie theatre, and a haunted house, amongst others. It felt more like Genny was baiting Alora because as soon as she heard of the park she was adamant about going there.
The park was on a new side of the city, which just opened up, so it was a long ride. By the ti we arrived, it was already 1 pm. Alora practically hopped out of the car as we approached the entry ticket booth.
Since it was a weekday, the park wasn’t crowded, which was a good thing. The line wasn’t long, and we quickly got our entry ticket and stepped inside.
The mont we stepped inside, Alora gasped as if she had walked into a storybook. The park is truly breathtaking. I have been to a lot of parks, but this one hits differently.
Bright colours stretched everywhere, red, blue, and yellow tents were scattered all over. Strings of tiny lights hung above us, even though it was still daylight. Music played softly in the background and the sll of popcorn, hot dogs, and sugar filled the air. I could hear distant laughs and the ringing sound of bells mixed with the whoosh of a ride starting up.
Even the air felt different, and for the first ti today, I completely forgot about the Volkovs. Alora excitedly spun in a slow circle, her heart was wide open. "This is so cool." She squealed, drawing the passerby’s attention, who only laughed at how cute she was. Genny and I couldn’t hold back our laughs.
"Where do we go first?" she squealed, bouncing on her toes. She spun to stare at us with those large blue poppy eyes. My heart almost lted at that mont.
Genny laughed. "Slow down, tiny tornado. You’ll exhaust yourself before we even start."
Alora was too high on airs to hear Genny. She was excitedly pointing everywhere at once.
"That one! And that one! And that big fast one!"
She was already dragging forward before I could answer. "Wow...that one is so cool." She said in awe, staring at the tall roller coaster big enough to even give a heart attack.
Unfortunately for excited Alora, not all the rides were made for little humans, especially the giant roller coaster that towered above us like a monster made of tal. Alora stared at it with wide eyes, half excited and half scared.
"I want that one!" she declared unable to tear her eyes from it. Genny winced at her words then shook her head. Her voice was firm leaving no room for argunt "Nope. Absolutely not. That thing is taller than your future."
Alora folded her arms. "But I’m brave," she added in her serious little voice and stern expression. "Granny said I have a big future there, no way it is taller than my future ." She argued.
Her naive words cracked up imdiately. I squatted to her level. "I know you have a bright future, but if you go on that ride, you might not get to see it. " I said, trying my best to sound serious despite cracking inside.
"But Alora is a very brave girl..." she said pitifully, her eyes were teary.
"I know you dear," I said softly, kneeling in front of her.
Genny chirped in with a serious tone. "That ride is only for big boys and girls, so they don’t get hurt. Maybe when you get bigger, we can co back," she tried to compromise.
She pouted. "That’s not fair," she said, disappointedly with teary eyes.
"Mum spoilt you too much. " Genny grumbled then glanced at with a sigh.. "Let go ask which rides are safe for children her age." Her gaze flickered to teary Alora. "Watch and try to get her not to cry. That would be a disaster "
She then hurried off toward the staff booth abandoning a disappointed Alora with . It felt like I was being tricked. She was off before I could object.
The sun was warm, and Alora was already frowning from the heat and disappointnt at not getting on the roller coaster. So I bent down beside her.
"How about ice cream while we wait?" I asked casually. She puffed her cheeks ignoring.
I sighed, children were difficult. "If I get you 2 large scoops, would you smile for Auntie Brae?" I tried to bribe her.
Her eyes lit up instantly."Are you sure?" she said sceptically staring at as if she was trying to figure out if I was lying
"Yes, two scoops of your favourite flavours," I added, and that worked. Her face imdiately brightened up..
"Chocolate and strawberry?" she excitedly requested.
"Deal." I shook hands with the little negotiator. The roller coaster was forgotten in less than a minute. "Now ti to find ice cream." I pulled her along
We walked to a small ice-cream stand with pastel colours and a smiling penguin painted on the side. "Please, we want ice cream." I chid
"Welco Please what flavours!" The ice cream man excitedly chid. I imdiately described the flavours. I also got so for Genny and . The weather was hot.
The man behind the counter took our request, and shortly later, he handed Alora her cone, and she giggled when the cold touched her tongue.
"This is the best day ever," she said proudly. I then took another cone for Genny and a popsicle for before we headed back toward the ticket booth.
"Let’s go find your mummy. " I urged her. Alora bead licking her ice cream on the way. I was also licking my chocolate-coated strawberry ice pop too.
Halfway there, I saw Genny running toward us. She looked... not okay, I guess, if not for the fact that she looked like she was about to commit a murder. My stomach dropped. What happened?
Her face was tight as she rushed towards us angrily and her eyes were flashing with pure irritation. "What happened?" I couldn’t help but ask quickly.
