359, Seeing Through Everything (4 more updates)

Xie Hanhan heard the scream, but she remained exceptionally calm.

She learned that Xie Shuyue had gone to see the Marchioness.

“Miss, aren’t you anxious?”

Xie Hanhan raised an eyebrow, “Anxious about what? She won’t be able to see Mother even if she goes!”

Because the Marchioness had left the house to burn incense and fulfill her vows.

Knowing her daughter was still alive, and that her son had found her, the Marchioness felt that nothing in her life could be better than this.

If it wasn’t for the frailty of her health, she would have imdiately taken a boat to Fengping County to see her daughter.

When Xie Shuyue arrived at the main courtyard and learned that the Marchioness had gone out to burn incense, she cried out in frustration, “Why didn’t Mother take with her to burn incense?”

She sought out the Crown Princess, who managed the household provisions and had hundreds of mouths to feed, plus children to look after. She had no spare ti to deal with Xie Shuyue and brushed her off with a few words, sending her away with a couple of pearl hairpins.

Did the Crown Princess not take Xie Shuyue seriously? Not exactly.

The main issue was the Marchioness’s attitude. The Marchioness had many fine things at her disposal, after all, even when she was ill, she had many people making money for her outside. The Crown Princess, in charge of the household provisions, couldn’t get involved in the Marchioness’s affairs. And she could tell that the Marchioness didn’t have a good opinion of Xie Shuyue-not at least the kind of doting that one would pour onto a daughter who had returned to her life after long absence. The Marchioness hadn’t given anything to Xie Shuyue; not even Xie Hanhan had received anything, though she had given so to her grandchildren but without favoring anyone in particular, all gifts of similar value.

Therefore, there was only one possibility: the Marchioness knew sothing. She had asked Xie Yi, and from what he told her about Xie Shuyue’s identity, there were no inconsistencies-yet, it was the lack of inconsistencies that made her suspicious of Xie Shuyue’s identity, and also of the younger uncle who had gone to Huguo Temple. Xie Shuyue didn’t stay in the courtyard which the Marchioness had carefully prepared for her daughter; instead, she lived with Xie Hanhan.

And who was Xie Hanhan? She was soone with a transparent mind and shrewdness, yet fully devoted to the Marchioness, essentially the Marchioness’s eyes and ears. The Marchioness wanted Xie Hanhan to watch Xie Shuyue closely. Seeing how during these days, Xie Hanhan, the adopted daughter, had kept Xie Shuyue, the biological daughter, under tight control, the Crown Princess concluded that Xie Shuyue was most likely an imposter.

Her own husband was also foolish, having recognized an imposter as his kin without realizing it.

And she couldn’t say anything to expose the truth, only watching him treat Xie Shuyue with indulgence, from ti to ti giving her silver.

If this one in the house was a fake, then where was the real one? The younger uncle had gone searching, and that’s why the Marchioness was so excited to go burn incense and fulfill her vows today.

Most likely that was the case!

On thinking this, the Crown Princess gently exhaled a breath of relief.

It’s good that she’s been found. Once she’s been found, her husband might realize he’d brought ho an imposter, and he would eventually co to terms with it.

But she feared this family of imposters was heartless and would harm the real Xie Nuan, even assuming her identity. On the day the truth ca to light, if Xie Nuan had already t her demise in heaven, Xie Yi would probably go mad.

He wouldn’t say it, but she knew how much he cherished his sister.

He had always kept in his heart the small gifts Xie Nuan had given him when she was a child. He had kept each one in immaculate condition, not allowing anyone else to touch them. He managed these ntos personally.

Huguo Temple

The Marchioness knelt inside the great hall, hands together in prayer.

“Bless my daughter Nuannuan with safety and smoothness, and may she return to my side soon!”

“Assassin, catch the assassin!”

Upon hearing the commotion, the Marchioness snapped back to reality, just as soone with a raised sword rushed toward her. She was startled, but the masked person pounced in her direction, seizing her.

The cold blade was pressed against her neck, and the Marchioness turned pale with fright.

Watching the guards approach with swords drawn, she sohow found her composure.
