Chapter 149: 149. Side Story 13: Alan’s Treat.
After Alan left Janey’s party that evening, everyone surrounded the young woman, bombarding her with questions upon questions. Her female friends were asking her if the handso guy was now finally truly her boyfriend? And her male friends were teasing her saying, they wonder what he saw in plain ol’ Janey.
Her mother was happy for her that her relationship seed to be progressing in the direction she wanted and her father was in tears that if things kept going this way he was bound to lose his last daughter just like he lost his first daughter Bella to her now husband Hanson.
The other adults around her parent’s age were teasing her for finally getting a boyfriend and the little children around Shelly and Renny’s age were blushing along with her. Although Shelly seed to have a childish crush on her he was very much happy about how his dear uncle was treating her. In fact the kiss on the cheek that Alan gave Janey made the little boy blush really hard.
Janey on the other hand was lost in her own head. The entire thing kept on replaying in her head again and again and again and she still could not believe any of it.
She could not believe that he had suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his embrace like in every cliché romance movie, or how her eyes had stupidly closed thinking he was going to actually kiss her, how her heart began to race crazily because of the anticipation of the kiss.
The second-hand embarrassnt that followed when he kissed her cheek not her lips like she had thought he was going to.
But then almost instantaneously her racing heart increased pace again when she opened her eyes and saw his soft gaze on hers with that radiant smile on his face.
When she kissed her head and told her he’d call her...
Were those monts real?
While everyone was busy saying whatever it was they had to say, Janey’s mind was completely stolen by Alan and lost in his lips.
Even when she was cleaning up with her family after the party, she was still in dreamy mode. Smiling to herself and blushing. Washing her hands instead of the dishes in the sink.
Before doing the dishes she didn’t want to take off her new present from the love of her life and she also didn’t want to get it wet because she was scared it would rust. So she wrapped her wrist with a cloth, then taped it with almost an entire tape. Then she wore rubber gloves ant for both hands on just one hand.
At that point, her father knew he had lost the battle. His little baby girl had been completely stolen.
She was just really excited. It was safe to say she was over the moon.
That night, she waited for his call. He usually texted her first to see if she was awake before calling.
And when he finally texted her, her phone slipped out of her grip and almost kissed the floor due to the extre excitent that coursed through her body as his text entered her phone but she was quick enough to catch it after so tossing and flipping in the air.
"Asleep?" was what his text said and it took lots and lots of breathing exercise for her to finally steady her trembling hands and respond with, "No."
And then his call ca in. She was rolling on her bed all through the call. Rolling, tossing and turning, kicking, chewing on the edge of her pillow only to realize it wasn’t food, switching on and off her bedside lamp like it was a toy, drawing different sizes of heart shapes with her fingers on her sheets and so many more crazy things.
She was just excited.
Again she thanked him for coming to her party, thanked him for his gift because she sincerely loved it although it was expensive, she appreciated it.
Then she had asked him, "Alan, w_why did you kiss ?" The line had gone silent for a second and in panicked excitent, she bid him goodnight and ended the call instantly asking herself why she had asked that question like an idiot.
Then her phone beeped and it was a text from Alan. She clicked on it and her eyes moved over the words he’d sent her...
"That wasn’t a kiss, Janey. That was just a peck. If I had kissed you, it wouldn’t have been on your cheek or your head. And it would have lasted longer."
"Good Night, Janey. Happy birthday again."
That night, Janey dreamt dreams, sweet sweet dreams of that long lasting kiss Alan texted her about and when she woke up in the morning, she didn’t know how to pray to God because she felt like a fresh sinner after all the things she dreamt of.
So she put her hands together, closed her eyes and said, "Dear Lord, this is the first ti I’m feeling this way and having these kinds of dreams because of a guy, so see
through this new stage of my life. In Jesus na. An. Oh, and God, I really like him a lot and I think he likes
too, so make him like
even more if you support
liking him. I promise you, you have nothing to worry about. I will remain a good girl, you can trust
God, so please make him like
more. Thank you God for I know you’ve heard
and answered
in Jesus’s na I pray. An."
...
The days rolled by quickly and soon it was may, the month Janey was supposed to go off to college. For Janey who had been waiting for the day to reach, she wasn’t feeling so happy that it was finally here.
Because although she had gotten closer to Alan over the past weeks, they were still nothing but church mbers who talked over the phone at night.
Even though she had confessed her feelings to him, even though he knew she liked him, even though his actions made it seem like Hee liked her too, he hadn’t done anything. She was hoping that with how close they were getting, he’d ask her to be his girlfriend before she left for college, but nothing of such had happened.
Maybe he didn’t know that she would be leaving for college soon, Janey thought to herself even though she had personally told him before that she’d be going to college. Maybe he didn’t rember that she’d be going in the month of May.
So Janey decided she was going to remind him once again.
It was the 4th of May 2025, the first Sunday of the month, just a week before she left for college, Janey had gone in search for him after the closing of the service.
She found him in a eting with so other male youths. Champagne and her husband had already left with the twins. Janey had told her parents to go ho without her because she had sothing important to do.
She waited until the eting was over and then she approached him.
"Janey? You’re still in church?" Surprised to see that she was still there because it was long minutes past the closing ti.
"Y_yeah, uh, these." She stretched her hand towards him and in it was a small bag. His lips ford a smile as he accepted it from her. "First Sunday cookies." She said as he collected them.
"You didn’t have to wait so long just to give
these, you could have called
out of the eting."
"It’s fine." She shrugs. "I don’t mind waiting."
"Well I do." He says. "I feel even more guilty because I didn’t know you were waiting."
"Oh don’t be, I’m really fine wait—"
"You wanna grab so ice-cream? Since I made you wait this long, I should treat you to sothing sweet." Well, she wanted to talk to him about sothing anyways so, talking over a cone or cup of ice-cream didn’t sound like a bad idea.
And besides it was kinda hot.
"I like chocolate." She simply says.
He nods and says, "Good taste. I know a place that makes the best chocolate ice-cream."
Since he had co straight from his ho and not from Duke’s place, he brought his car with him.
As he opened the front door for her and she entered into his car, a part of her heart raced because of what she wanted to ask him and the other part raced because it almost seed as though they were going on a date.
"Calm down Janey, it’s just ice-cream." She whispered to herself as he sat next to her in the driver’s seat and set the car in motion.
Who was she kidding? How could she be calm?! She was sitting in a car with her dear Alan!!
She most definitely wasn’t calm.
