Chapter 123: 123. Thank God I can laugh about it.

After waking up that morning, I said my morning prayers, this ti with the twins. And normally Duke doesn’t disturb

when I start my morning prayer, he just walks away but I can tell that he’s still feeling a little bad about everything that happened last night so for the first ti since I’ve been married tk the man, he joins

in prayer.

Well, he mostly just said An along with the twins, but, it’s a start.

Now, due to what happened yesterday, everyone is treating

like a fine porcelain vase. Duke is carrying

around, still not allowing

to step my feet on the ground or do anything on my own at all.

The twins are running small errands for , Emily and Fredrick asking

if I’m feeling uncomfortable for the one hundredth ti. Mary ca bearing gifts from her husband who was sorry he couldn’t co see

personally, and she also ca with fully packed food boxes.

Alan is calling

from work to check up on

and even Rey is calling .

"Well, I gotta go wifey, coach is planning to drain us dry for the big ga tomorrow. Stay safe alright, I can’t handle your husband if anything happens to you." Rey jokes as he waves

goodbye through the video call.

"I can handle my man." I say with a highly raised chin and he laughs.

"Alright then, bye wifey."

"Bye Rey." I wave back.

"Bye uncle wey!!" The twins scream from the kitchen.

"Bye hon, momma loves you!" Emily yells along with the kids.

"That’s enough," Duke says and snatches the tab from , "And stop calling my wife, wifey!" He says and ends the call causing

to laugh.

"You’re such a big baby." I say and he shrugs and walks away. He’s not even denying it.

The twins keep asking

if my face hurts because it’s swollen. Although they sohow understood that kidnapping ant being taken away, they didn’t really understand the entire situation fully and neither of us could bring ourselves to tell them what really happened to make my face swollen.

We just tell them that I fell and that leads them to chastize

while mocking my walking step like a Chihuahua running with a catwalk.

They say it’s the reason I had fallen down in the first place because I always walk in a hurry. They go on to tell

to walk more like daddy. The way he walks with slow strong strides and they mimic his walk too and Shelly looks so much like a baby Duke! While Renny looks like his female counterpart.

They are so cute!

I thought I’d have to head to the police station today to hand over my statent, but thankfully, two officers ca in to take my statent this morning and I don’t have to go anywhere.

I’m spending the whole day at ho with my family.

Well, this is not how I had pictured my stay at ho, but I guess even though I can’t move around freely, it’s still fun having a full house. One that’s filled with love and not malice against each other.

The day was a simple yet pleasant one. We spent our ti talking about the business and how the new products were selling well. We talked about the twins growing older and bigger everyday.

"It’s so heartbreaking that they only have a year left before they begin kindergarten," Mary had said and it made

realize that the twins were really growing up.

I wonder if they know deep down that I’m not their mother, and I wonder if like in those cliché movies, one of them would one day say to , ’You’re not my mother! You’re my stepmother!’ That would hurt. It would hurt really bad.

I just hope such a day never cos.

Late into the afternoon, we sohow ended up talking about the entire event that unfolded yesterday even though all morning everyone has been trying to avoid the topic.

I explained how it all happened and at so point, I don’t know how bit the entire thing beca sothing we were laughing about. Maybe it was because of how I was explaining it but thinking back to what happened yesterday and then explaining it out loud made

laugh and in turn made everyone laugh.

When I talked about how I had goaded him into stopping the car and then giving him a right kick so as to escape, we laughed really hard.

At that mont, in that car yesterday I was totally freaked out, extrely scared and yet now that I’m safely ho it all feels like a parody of a horror movie and I’m glad I can easily laugh about it today.

I’m glad I’m ho.

Imagine I wasn’t found yesterday. I don’t want to imagine it because it’s so easy to picture what would have happened.

I would have fought for as long as I could but Rowan would have won eventually, wouldn’t he?

And only God knows what would have happened to

after. He would have either bundled

to only God knows where or worse...

Let’s not think about it.

I’m ho, I’m with Duke and the twins and everyone else.

It’s alright now.

Rowan has been caught. Let’s just see it as I was a bait for catching him and I just had to endure all those things before they ca and captured him.

Besides, that beating was rather satisfying.

...

Duke didn’t let

walk on my own till the next day and for the remainder of the week, he didn’t let

go to work. In fact left for him, he would never allow

to go anywhere on my own again.

As expected, after that beating Rowan is still in the hospital under police custody too and he’s trending on the news again.

However, this ti, Rowan is not the only one showing on all stations. Aunt Evelyn is also taking the spotlight right now because the news of her impending divorce sohow got leaked and now everyone knows that her husband is the one who filed for a divorce.

I still can’t believe he is going to divorce her. They’ve been together for so long. Even though he’s been like a shadow beside her, he was still a visible shadow. I wonder how aunt will look now without that shadow around her.

Worse, how will she look without that shadow to comfort her when the storm I’m sending her way finally hits her.

Well, I guess she has her lover to give her comfort.

I take the apples I just sliced and walk towards Duke’s study. I knock on the door, "Duke," I say as I open the door, pushing my head in first and I can see his head is buried in his work.

Seeing him dedicated to work once in a while always reminds

that he can be a serious worker when he chooses to be. It reminds

why he was able to efficiently manage Harford electronics and food before I arrived.

He might seem quite lazy, but it’s after living with him and studying him for this long that I realized that he actually picks a week and does a whole month’s work in that week without fail. That way, he can laze around for the rest of the month and only attend to minor things that co up later in that month.

It’s quite remarkable when you think about it. I’d break down if I do a month’s work in a week. My husband is aweso.

"Hm?" He hums without looking up at . I push my entire body into the room, walk up to him and place the plate of sliced apples on his desk.

He lifts his eyes "Thank you." He says and then looks back at the screen in front of him.

Silently, I look around the study like a little restless bunny wanting to do sothing. I start to walk around quietly till my feet move to stand right next to him with my back bent and my face leaning into his screen staring at what he’s working on.

Ah, he’s sending a reply mail.

"Pagne," he drawls my na. "What do you want?" He asks and I just shrug.

"Nothing, just curious about your work." I say.

He holds onto my wrist and pulls

to sit on his lap making

giggle as I wrap my hand around his neck, "We do the sa work dearest, what exactly are you curious about?" He asks.

I release one hand from his neck and reach for the plate of apples. I drag it closer and pick one slice with my fingers.

"Alright, I just ca to give my husband so apples that I took my precious ti to wash and slice, and I will appreciate it if he at least takes a mont from his work and has a bite. Open up Grand Duke." I say and he chuckles and parts his lips and I feed him the apple.

Even this is fun.
