Chapter 111: 111. What Evelyn did.
"My life before Laura was a wreck but after she entered my life, everything began to turn around for the better." There’s a sad happy feeling in the room right now. I can’t explain it. "And a week after we got married I landed the biggest jackpot a man of my humble background could ever aspire to attain."
He looks up at
and laughs. "I t your grandfather, Robert Aaron Gold Senior." He shakes his head as though he is reminiscing. "He saw
in court defending a client and then and there decided that he wanted to have
by his side." This is the first ti I’m hearing how they t. All I know is Attorney Languine has been working with father for a long ti.
"I was beyond shocked. Gold group already had its own legal team, the fact that he was recruiting a nobody like
was beyond fantasy. But he said he could see my potential." That sounds like grandpa. He was always ready to acquire sothing new even though he already had hundreds of it in store. As long as the new thing looked valuable and worthy of his attention he’d take it.
So that’s how he hired Languine.
"Due to my new job, I had a lot of reasons to visit the house, that’s when I t your father for the first ti he was quite a vibrant young man. Then I t your aunt—" the pause in his voice proves that it was no pleasant encounter. I have never noticed this before but I can see it right now that he clearly doesn’t have a good mory of aunt Evelyn. There’s so kind of darkness that has suddenly shadowed his eyes as he’s talking about her.
"She was just twenty at that ti and I was close to thirty. As you must know, Alicia’s beauty didn’t just get handed to her from heaven... She got it directly from her mother. " I know that.
"When Evelyn was younger, she was beautiful. Her hair was far more golden than it is now, her eyes were lighter and her skin was plump and she was all around beautiful."
I know, even now, for a woman who just hit fifty, my aunt looks young like she’s in her mid-thirties max. I cannot deny that she really is beautiful too.
"Alicia can not even compare to her mother’s beauty when she was younger." I chuckle softly at his words.
"Alicia would be quite sad to hear that." I say and he chuckles dryly. Once again his eyes move to one of his wife’s pictures, another one where he’s standing with her.
"As you can see I wasn’t always bald myself." He says and I must say I’d forgotten what the man looked like with hair on his head. The pictures are a good reminder. "And I was quite the looker too." I’ll not deny that either.
"So maybe that was the reason Evelyn was obsessed with
then even though she knew my marriage was just so months old." A_auny Evelyn had feelings for Languine?!
"She confessed her feelings for
and I had plainly told her that I was married," Holy cow! I didn’t think aunt Evelyn was the kind of person to confess her feelings first! To a married man for that matter! Thee apple truly doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Alicia really takes after her mother! This is big news.
"I an look at my wife, isn’t she just the most beautiful thing you have ever seen? With a smile as bright as that, a smile that lights up an entire building. Just look at those big brown eyes like that of a dove and that hair like rusty iron. The freckles on her cheeks are the loveliest and cutest parts of her facial features. Her small pink lips are an added bonus. How can I ever look at another woman when I have such a lovely wife by my side?"
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a man talk to another person about his wife with so much love evident in his eyes. See the way his face lights up as he explains her features.
He really loved her. There is no denying that fact. His love for his wife was real.
"Evelyn was probably angry that I turned her down." From the way Alicia acts because Duke turned her down, I can imagine aunt Evelyn being angry about this kind of matter.
"From what I had heard, everyone at that ti would have given heads to make the young lady fall for them. I an not only was she beautiful, she was also the only female child of Robert Aaron Gold. The princess of the house. Your life was more than set if you could make her yours. Was what I had heard, but what could I do? My heart and body already belonged to Laura, every other woman no matter how beautiful looked like a nun to ." That’s a funny expression. It makes
wonder how Duke sees other won.
"Unapproachable and unable to evoke any form of desires within ." I must say Laura was lucky to have such a man and this man was equally lucky to have a woman like her.
"Evelyn suggested an affair, saying no one would know if we didn’t tell anyone. There was no way my wife would find out if we kept it a secret, was what she had said and yet again I had turned her down. I wasn’t going to cheat on my wife over so monts excitent."
"What happened after that?" I ask.
"What happened is sothing I’ve never forgotten nor forgave myself for. Sothing shaful I can never bring myself to say."
"Tell ... I’ll listen. And I’m sure whatever it was—is, whatever it is, I am sure Laura will forgive you for it now."
"Y_You think so?"
"I know so, because I love my husband as I’m sure Laura loved— loves you. If he were to hurt
in any way, I would get mad obviously, but I will forgive him because of the love I have for him. So I’m sure Laura will feel the sa."
"It was one ti during spring. I rember promising Laura a dinner date that evening before I left the house that day. It started raining in the afternoon. I had gone over to your grandfather’s house in hopes to et with him so he could go over so certain docunts. The rain had started on my way to the house and quickly poured heavier by the ti I arrived there."
"When I got there, it was Evelyn whom I t. She inford
that her father went sowhere with her brother and she was the only one at ho. She told
they didn’t go far and would be ho soon and it was better for
to wait for them than going back and forth." He pauses then rises to his feet. He walks away from
until he disappears into a room. The next ti he appears, he has a glass of whiskey in his hand. He sits down in front of , sips from his glass before he begins to speak again.
"It was an uncomfortable offer but reasonable too. I didn’t like the fact that it was just us two in the entire house but I decided to stay behind. During the ti where I waited, the rain grew heavier carrying a nasty wind with it. It was even on the radio that we were advised to remain where we were because driving in such weather could cause nurous accidents."
So he was stuck in a house with aunt Evelyn who was obsessed over him.
"So I was stuck in the house no longer just waiting for my boss to return ho but for the rain to cease so I could go ho to my wife who was probably worried about
because all the phone lines were dead due to the bad weather and there was no way to explain my current location and situation to her. The longer I waited the heavier the rain poured and the darker the day sky beca."
I can almost see where this is going. Should I guess? The night was cold, he couldn’t control himself so he ended up sleeping with aunt Evelyn that night...
"If you think Alicia is wicked, then think again, Evelyn is a wicked opportunist who would stoop to every level to get what she wants... I didn’t know this then, that’s why when she offered
a cup of warm chocolate I thankfully accepted it and gulped it all down in one take."

"How are you feeling? George, George how are you feeling?" Evelyn called out to him but after drinking the hot chocolate, George Languine’s head and mind was getting muddled.
"L_Laura? When did you get here?" In his eyes, it was his wife who had appeared in front of him, He didn’t know how and he couldn’t even begin to think why, but he was certain it was his wife in front of him.
Twenty year old Evelyn had a victorious smile on her face as the man who had so distastefully rejected her so many tis was now reached for her with such tenderness.
"Yes, it’s . Your dear wife. How are you feeling?" Evelyn replied as though she was indeed his wife. She had never lost a fight and George Languine’s wasn’t going to be her first lost fight. Evelyn always got what Evelyn wanted. This man was no different.
"I don’t know. I_ I’m suddenly feeling hot. But how did you get here? I was going to call you but the bad weather has ruined everything. Why am I so hot?"
"If you’re so hot you should take off your clothes." Evelyn said as she watched him struggle with his attire.
