Chapter 106: 106. Altered Will of grandpa.
"You should have seen the look on her face!" I say with a loud laugh as I happily explain my entire day to Duke as we settle into bed for the night.
"I didn’t even give her the chance to think of a proper response, I just said my piece and then instantly slipped into my car. Then I honked at her when she still stood there like a brainwashed doll. She staggered out of the way and I zood off."
"You obviously had a good ti." He says with a soft laugh but he kind of seems absentminded.
"I did. Lately I’ve been seeing more expressions of Alicia than I have seen in all my years on earth. It’s quite refreshing to have the upper hand."
"Indeed." He says as he calmly strokes my hair.
"Dealing with her today again made
realize that I’ve been the cause of my own misery all these years. I let her bully , placing her on such a high scale like she was untouchable. I failed to see that she was just a human being like
and I let her affect
too much."
"The fact that you’ve realized that now ans that you know how much stronger you are now." He says with a kiss on my forehead. "I’m happy that you finally realize that."
"It’s all thanks to you. If it hadn’t been for you, I probably wouldn’t have realized that on my own. I’m happy you found ." I snuggle into his warmth and he naturally holds onto
with a tighter squeeze.
"But Duke,"
"Hmm?"
"Are you okay?" I don’t know, maybe it’s just my imagination but sothing feels off with him.
"What do you an?" He pushes
back a little so he can stare at
and I et his questioning gaze.
"I an how are you?" I ask again.
"What?" He chuckles softly.
"Why are laughing? I’m being serious right now. How are you?" I ask again. I don’t know what it is, but sothing seems to be bothering him.
"I_ I’m fine." He chuckles again. "Why are you suddenly asking?"
"Because I want to know how you are feeling." I give him the response he had once given .
He laughs again, "I’m fine my dearest."
"Are you sure you’re fine?" I ask again and he nods.
"I am."
"Alright." I nestle into his arms again only to bolt right up because I’m just feeling really uneasy. I sit myself up and stare at him.
"Tell ." I simply say.
"What?"
"The thing that is on your mind, the thing that is bothering you, tell ." I say.
I can’t just pretend like everything is okay just because he says he’s fine. I can just feel it. I don’t know how, but I can just feel that sothing is bothering him.
"Pagne," He adjusts himself to lay on his side with his elbow pressed on the bed and his head on his palm, "I’m fine. Nothing is bothering . Maybe I’m just a little tired that’s all. I’m sincerely fine."
"Liar!" I hate that he’s lying. I hate that he’s bottling sothing up inside. "You always make
tell you things whenever I’m bothered. You always soothe , why won’t you let
do the sa? Why won’t you share things with . I am worried about you, I want to know what is bothering you that’s why I’m your wife! If I’m able to lean on you, then you should also be able to lean on
or—"
Or don’t you consider
a real wife? Is what I want to ask but I’m holding myself back from saying those words. We agreed to beco a real couple, we even got wedding rings now, so I know he has taken
in as a wife and that’s why I’m holding back from asking that question.
"You’re so easy to read." I suddenly says and sits himself up on the bed next to . He takes my hand and pulls
into his arms gently, placing a soft kiss on my lips. "I can see all the unnecessary rubbish that’s going around in your head right now. Pagne, you are my wife, never doubt that I see you as my real wife, hm?"
"Then why won’t you tell
what is disturbing you? I want to comfort you too." I say as he gently squeezes my hand in his own.
"Fine. I’m sorry I lied." I knew it! There really was sothing bothering him.
"But I wasn’t bothered because of myself. I’m bothered because the matter concerns you."
"? What about ?"
"I didn’t know how exactly to tell you this, that’s what has been disturbing ." What could it be? It’s making
even more curious that he looks so serious.
"Duke, explain it to ."
He stares at
for a mont before letting out a soft sigh, "It’s about your grandfather."
Well, that was unexpected. About my grandfather? "What about him?"
"It seems his will was altered."
When he finally admitted he was indeed bothered about sothing, I wasn’t too surprised because I already felt it. When he said it was sothing that concerned , I wasn’t overly surprised too because I find it normal at this stage that Duke worries about .
Then he went on to say it’s about my grandpa, that, I must admit ca as a surprise. Now what is he saying?
"I_ I don’t understand—"
"Calm down and listen to
Pagne," He says and I nod.
"I t an acquaintance about a month ago and while he was congratulating
on our marriage, I found out that he knew your grandfather. Maybe you will know him, Julius Bane of Bane industries."
Indeed, I know Julius. "H_he was grandpa’s long ti friend." I know him very well. Whenever Julius was in town, he either ca to grandpa or grandpa went to him. They would play chess for hours. "I think he was grandpa’s college friend."
"Good, you know him. While we were discussing, he went on and on about how much your grandfather cherished you and how painful it was that you got kicked out of the family business after his death." True, I’m sure Julius must have been surprised that grandpa would do sothing like that to
too. Julius was also kind to .
"According to him, your grandfather would be very disturbed in his grave if he saw what they did to you." Would he?
"Those words coupled with how you had told
your grandfather was the only one who treated you well in that family got
thinking, if he loved you to the point where an acquaintance would say sothing like that then it made no sense at all that he was the sa person who left you out of his will." I have never thought of it this way.
"So I suspected that your aunt or soone in your family must have done sothing. I had soone investigate the matter. After thorough investigation, it would seem that your grandfather’s will was indeed altered."
This can’t be true.
This must not be true.
If it’s true that would only an, I have been hating my grandpa, the only one who showed
so much love... I’ve been hating him for nothing!
"Are you saying that that might not be the original will of grandpa?" I ask. I can feel the air slowly leaving my lungs. My throat is getting dry and at the sa ti I feel like I’m choking.
"Yes. My sources tell
that the day after your grandfather passed, your aunt had t with Attorney Languine and soon after a huge amount of money was wired into his account."
This can’t be happening. This shouldn’t even be happening. Why?! Why?!
"A_Attorney Languine is a good man. He has always been. I’ve known him since I was little. He has always been an honest man. He would never—"
"Pagne, trust ..." I do, I do trust you but, I don’t want tto believe this. "I would never tell you sothing like this unless I was already certain." Dear God that makes it even more painful because I know truly Duke wouldn’t tell
sothing like this unless he is entirely sure.
"Your aunt worked with Attorney Languine to alter your grandfather’s will. What was read to you wasn’t his original will. It was falsified."
Aunt Evelyn! Aunt Evelyn!! How could she go that far?! How could she stoop so low as to falsify grandpa’s last will?! How could she disrespect her own father like that?!
And what’s worse is that her actions made
think my grandpa had betrayed . It made
hate the man in an instant.
Oh God, why do these people keep tornting ?! Just when I think I’m gaining a little upperhand, a new truth is revealed and I’m shattered all over again! Why do they keep doing this to ?!
