Chapter 288: Chapter 289 Too Late to Leave

Gu Qiangwei looked up, glanced at Feng Jinglei, and said, “I, I have sothing else to take care of, so I’ll be leaving first!”

“Don’t.”

Just as she was about to leave, Feng Jinglei grabbed her arm.

Aware that she was pregnant, Gu Qiangwei didn’t dare to just pull her hand away. Instead, she turned her head and looked at Feng Jinglei with an anxious expression.

“Today is my grandmother’s birthday banquet, and as a guest, you should stay. I’ve spoken to the people in your company; they’ve agreed to give you the day off.”

Gu Qiangwei was taken aback, realizing that it was indeed being held here!

In an instant, her heart felt like ants on a hot pan, restless and uneasy!

“Look, Feng—Jinglei, thank you for your kindness, but I have an ergency and must leave imdiately!”

Feng Jinglei was puzzled, but seeing Gu Qiangwei’s extrely anxious deanor, she presud it was a genuine ergency, and it didn’t seem right to detain her any longer.

“Is it a real ergency?”

Gu Qiangwei nodded frantically.

“Alright then, I’ll invite you over so other ti.”

Gu Qiangwei nodded, then quickly grabbed her bag and hurried off.

“I’ll see you out!”

“No, just stay, please!”

She was burning with impatience. If she were to follow the pace of her pregnant stride, Qin Sijue would probably arrive before she could leave the place!

So, with her bag in hand, she rushed downstairs in haste!

However, just as she dashed towards the staircase, her feet ground to a halt, and her eyes widened at the sight of Qin Sijue seated on the luxurious European-style couch in the opulent living room.

At that mont, outside in the courtyard, the sounds of nurous engines grew louder as many aristocrats from afar ca to celebrate the venerable lady’s milestone.

The instant she saw Qin Sijue, she imdiately turned back and hid around the corner, her heart pounding rapidly.

“Where’s the old lady?”

Downstairs, his low and magnetic voice was still as pleasant as ever.

Gu Qiangwei stood against the wall, listening to the familiar voice she hadn’t heard in a long while.

“The old lady is upstairs.”

The maid replied respectfully upon seeing him.

Qin Sijue didn’t say another word, and Gu Qiangwei didn’t dare to peek down into the living room again—fearful of being discovered by Qin Sijue by accident.

Just as she began to calm down and ponder how she might leave the place, the sound of leisurely approaching footsteps from afar grew nearer…

With each step Qin Sijue took, his leather shoes clacked crisply against the floor, and Gu Qiangwei’s heart followed the ever-closer steps with a rise and fall of trepidation.

He was coming upstairs!

Feeling the footsteps getting closer, Gu Qiangwei whirled around and dashed towards the second floor!

Qin Sijue reached the middle of the staircase when he suddenly heard the hurried footsteps above. He furrowed his brows, stopped in his tracks, and looked intensely towards the corner on the second floor.

Everything was in place, and Feng Jinglei was about to leave her room to greet the continuous stream of guests arriving downstairs.

However, as she approached the door, a figure suddenly burst in and then ‘bang’—locked the door from the inside!

Feng Jinglei stood in place, frozen, staring blankly at Gu Qiangwei, who had unexpectedly returned.

After a bout of panic, Gu Qiangwei looked up and t Feng Jinglei’s surprised gaze.

“What’s wrong with you?”

Breathless, Gu Qiangwei didn’t know how to broach the subject.

And Feng Jinglei just stood there, calmly curious.

“I… Jinglei, could you… help

get out of here?”

Feng Jinglei was montarily stunned, her clear black eyes blinked twice.

Help her leave here?

The main door was downstairs. Although the estate was large, it surely wasn’t so extensive that she could get lost, was it?
