Chapter 198 - Back to the office
Xiu i distanced herself in reflex as if she was going to escape after getting caught snooping around secretly. But before she could move an inch, Lu Chen’s hand went to the back of her head to stop her movents.
And so, Xiu i was left with no choice but to keep staring at her husband with flushed cheeks. An amused smile appeared at Lu Chen’s drained appearance.
"You ca." Lu Chen blurted out in ecstasy as soon as he saw her wife’s figure in front of him when he woke up from his short nap. He was actually already awake the mont she entered his office, he was on high alert at first but as soon as he slled that familiar scent in the air, he imdiately realized that it was his wife who dropped by.
Xiu i nodded and smiled. Then she pointed at the lunch box behind herself. Seeing this, Lu Chen felt even more elated at his wife’s thoughtfulness. So he couldn’t help himself but slightly rise from the couch and press a kiss on Xiu i’s lips.
He originally wanted to just peck her lips but as soon as he touched her soft lips, he couldn’t help but linger more. He trapped her lower lip in between his before prying open her wife’s slightly parted mouth. He lingered for a few more seconds on her lips until he felt his wife slightly pushing him away by his shoulder.
Albeit reluctant, Lu Chen released his wife’s lips and suppressed the desire that was threatening to explode again.
Xiu i revealed a pout expression and scowled at him. Lu Chen just found her reaction adorable and chuckled in amus.e.m.e.nt before pinching her cheeks.
"Sorry, wife. You just looked tastier than the lunch so—Oof!" Before Lu Chen could even finish his sentence, Xiu i didn’t hesitate to slap his mouth shut by lightly hitting his chin.
She glared at the rogue man who was so thick-skinned at this very mont. After bestowing her punishnt, she lightly pushed the man’s legs sprawled on the couch, and sat at the little space he made for her. And then, she dismantled the homade lunchbox with her prepared dishes inside.
The shaless husband on the other hand couldn’t stand his wife sitting uncomfortably so he quickly sat up properly beside her, watching her movents. Xiu i laid out the soup and dishes she prepared in front of Lu Chen and half of the contents of the lunch box were for her to eat.
The two of them had a serene lunch unlike the usual because, in normal tis, Xiu i was the one who was doing the talking for the two of them. Lu Chen would drop so egg and pork into her bowl from ti to ti and he would even make a move of feeding her to tease her.
The couple was harmoniously enjoying their lunch when they were disturbed by Xiu i’s assistant.
Xiu i’s assistant felt like kneeling in repent in front of the President’s cold gaze but she steeled her heart and quickly explained herself.
"Sorry to interrupt you, Mr.Lu but the Managing Director from the European Branch is currently on the line."
"What do they need?" Lu Chen clicked his tongue in annoyance for getting interrupted but he quickly changed into his work mode. He fixed his slightly loose tie while listening to Xiu i’s assistant.
"He said it was about the thing that you asked for him before."
"Then pass him to my line."
"Understood."
Xiu i and her assistant didn’t understand the context of the conversation but they didn’t delve into it any further. Her assistant quickly left the room to connect the line to the president’s phone while Lu Chen told Xiu i to eat on her own first while he takes the call.
Xiu i nodded at his words and watched him pick up the phone and spoke in hushed voices as if he didn’t want it to be heard by her at all.
But she didn’t let that bother her. Lu Chen’s history of keeping things from her was... quite a long list so she was already got used to this by this point.
She took a big bite of the at and chewed on it carefully.
Seriously, this marriage continuously changed her perspective on a lot of things. Surprisingly, she didn’t even know that she could actually stay with soone who constantly hid things from her. If it were her previous self, she would surely scorn her so for tolerating this for this long.
Still, seeing him being so busy and her colleagues complaining about their work, she couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. Even if she hasn’t been working for more than two months, for her, it felt just like a few days ago when she was still sitting on her work station and working on her projects.
It would be a lie if she said she didn’t mind the overti hours. But by working...she felt more like herself you know? Because that’s what she truly was for the past four, almost five years here in Lu Corporation.
Her mood slightly soured as she continued her train of thought. But then she rembered that she was taking a break not only because of her current situation right now but also to figure out whether she would need to leave all of this aside to focus on spending ti with Lu Qiang in the near future. Both of which are important to her.
"What are you thinking about?" Xiu i felt soone breathe beside her ear. Her breath hitched as she almost jumped in surprise with the sudden voice beside her.
But before she could avoid the voice, an arm sn.a.k.e.d around her waist preventing her from doing that. She turned her head and realized that it was Lu Chen who was trying to make fun of her again.
Her brows furrowed when she saw the amused grin on his face. Lu Chen ignored her glares and sat beside her again while picking up his own bowl of food.
"Wife, open your mouth." And then he lifted his chopsticks holding so at and rice.
She didn’t move a single muscle and just kept glaring at him. After scowling at him for a few more seconds, in the end, she gave in and opened her mouth.
Frustrated, she scolded herself for giving in to her husband’s antics. This guy really never missed a chance to tease and flirt with her. Rogue!
After finishing their lunch, Lu Chen was still scheduled to et with a couple of departnts so Xiu i didn’t stay very long at the office. After bidding goodbye to Lu Shao and her assistant, she stepped inside the elevator again to go down to the underground garage.
However, she didn’t expect to et an acquaintance while she was on her way leaving the office.
"Ms.Xiu! It’s been a while." Albert Chen blurted out as soon as he saw her figure inside the lift. Thankfully, he was alone and so no one heard him when he publicized her arrival in the company.
Xiu i just flashed a courteous smile at the man before Albert entered the lift and pressed the ground floor button. Xiu i moved to the side maintaining a respectful distance between him and her. Her mind floated back to the report that she received about Albert Chen as well.
"I heard you were on a long vacation. How was it? Did you travel sowhere far? Africa? London?" Albert babbled as soon as the elevator doors closed. And so, Xiu i was quickly bombarded by questions from this colleague of hers.
She was just about to open her mouth but she paused as soon as she rembered her current situation. Her forehead creased in frustration as she realized that she wouldn’t be able to make him scram or make him shut up at all.
Xiu i was still thinking deeply about how to respond to him without letting him notice her current problem when Albert Chen looked at her again with an inquisitive look.
"Ms.Xiu? Are you okay?" Albert Chen asked.
Xiu i just shook her head and didn’t open her mouth. She stayed her eyes in front without looking at the man beside her hoping that he will get the ssage that she wasn’t interested in speaking with him right now at all.
"Do you want to bring you to the clinic first?" Albert worriedly asked.
...Yep, she rembered that he wasn’t exactly the type to figure that out at all.
Either that or he’s playing stupid and pretending that he didn’t understand what she was trying to express at all.
Thankfully, the elevator dinged open once again signaling their arrival to the ground floor. But Albert didn’t make a move of exiting the lift at all.
"Ms.Xiu, let’s go. I’ll bring you to the clinic." Albert uttered as he gestured her to exit the elevator. He even held the doors to stop it from closing.
Xiu i shook her head and gestured for him to go on his way but Albert was clearly very insistent and he didn’t let her go at all.
