Chapter 175 - Sothing wrong
Hearing his voice, the woman who just woke up from slumber turned her head to follow the source of the voice who called her na.
Xiu i stared at Lu Chen for a full minute with an empty gaze. Before Lu Chen could even celebrate that she had finally awakened, he finally noticed sothing wrong.
When she did not respond to him at all, Lu Chen felt a sense of foreboding. He suddenly grew nervous as he slowly approached her figure, to see whether she would suddenly lash out or just stay calm when soone would try to go near her.
"Wife?" He repeated. But Xiu i just followed his movents until he stopped next to her. She slightly raised her head to et his gaze while Lu Chen never looked away from hers.
Seeing her eyes look so empty at a close distance, Lu Chen felt heavy.
Before, she would often act like this after waking up back when she first woke up in the hospital and when he moved her to his ho. She would always fall in a trance for a few minutes and then she would slowly return to her senses as if she had just completely woken up.
But right now, Lu Chen could sense that this ti, it was sothing different.
He raised his hand and gently placed it on her cheek. Softly caressing her, slightly bent down his head and whispered her na again.
"Xiu i." This ti, he called her na with so much longing on his voice. He didn’t hide the yearning in his eyes as he carefully basked on his wife’s gaze on him.
God knows how much he had longed for her eyes to look at him like that again.
"I missed you." He murmured as their foreheads finally touched. His voice sounded so tender and full of affection as he honestly voiced out his feelings.
A tear escaped from his left eye as soon as he closed his eyes. He focused on the slightly cold skin he was holding but in his hands, it sohow felt warr instead of cold.
A second later, he felt a slightly cold hand cover his hand holding her cheek. He opened his eyes and saw that Xiu i was covering his hand as well. He withdrew his gaze from his hand and t her gaze again.
This ti, her eyes were filled with emotions. Her lips slightly curled up as her eyes turned into crescents. He watched her open her mouth and waited for her to speak but... no sound ca out of her mouth.
Both a.d.u.l.ts froze for a mont.
Xiu i opened her mouth again to speak but strangely, even if she could feel the air passing through her mouth, she didn’t let out any sound.
At first, she thought that she suddenly couldn’t hear herself at all. But looking at Lu Chen’s dumbfounded expression, she knew that it wasn’t the case at all.
Her hand that was holding Lu Chen’s moved to her neck, placing it where her vocal cords are. She opened her mouth again, this ti with desperation as she tried to make a sound yet not even a peep could be heard.
This ti, she was completely frightened. The hand on her neck trembled as she realized that sothing was wrong with her. Her entire body shook in fear as panic was creeping into her again.
No way. It can’t be!
W-Why...?!
Xiu i swiftly raised her head and looked at Lu Chen. With her eyes, she was asking him for help. Her other hand clung on his arm as she continued to desperately look for him for help.
Even Lu Chen was startled with the sudden turn of events. He thought that since Xiu i had woken up now, then there would be no problem anymore. But it seems that he was terribly mistaken.
He was completely startled just like Xiu i but he quickly changed his expression after seeing her reaction.
This wasn’t the ti to be shocked!
Lu Chen pressed the button on the bed to call the nurse as he imdiately comforted his panicking wife by embracing her and stroking her back. The military nurse stationed in their room swiftly arrived.
The nurse paused for a second before she quickly entered her room. Before the nurse could even ask how the patient was feeling, Lu Chen already beat her to it.
"There’s sothing wrong with her. Can you call Dr. Lee?"
The nurse was hesitant to listen to his words at first but as her gaze shifted on the trembling woman and the scary man, she swallowed down her words and complied.
"I’ll call Dr. Lee now." Then she imdiately left the room to call Xiu i’s doctor.
Lu Chen was now sitting on the edge of the bed while Xiu i just buried herself into his embrace desperately. Right now, she didn’t know what to do nor how to face it.
She knew sothing was wrong with her. And that fact greatly scared her.
Doctor Lee arrived in the room after ten minutes. Lu Chen eyed him for a minute before gesturing sothing to him. Doctor Lee understood what he was trying to say and instructed the other nurse to leave the room.
"Little Princess, how are you feeling?" Doctor Lee approached her while observing her movents. As soon as he entered the room, he noticed the heavy atmosphere within then knew that there was a problem.
Xiu i peeked over Lu Chen’s shoulder to look at Doctor Lee and bit her lips as if contemplating. In the end, she pulled away from her husband and properly sat up in front of the doctor so he could do his work.
Xiu i shook her head in response to his question.
Doctor Lee glanced at Lu Chen before looking at Xiu i again. She took a deep breath and straightened her back. Then she laid her hand on her neck and shook her head again as she tried to tell him what was wrong with her. She even opened her mouth and attempted to speak just so he could easily understand what she was implying.
Lu Chen took a sharp breath as he watched his wife’s movents. Behind his back, he hid his fisted hands. His thoughts unbeknownst to anyone in the room.
Doctor Lee didn’t show the shock on his face as a professional but he was honestly very startled when he understood what Xiu i was trying to say.
Selective Mutism wasn’t uncommon for people who had traumatic experiences but it surely takes a lot of effort to encourage and help soone with this case in curing their mutism. Though right now, he’s not yet sure if that was really the case.
Doctor Lee spoke to Xiu i in a very gentle manner to not make her panic at all with her current situation. He’ll be scheduling her for so radiology exams but he will be doing so initial tests on her first.
Lu Chen moved behind Xiu i first to give them space as the doctor and patient talked. He watched her try to open her mouth a couple of tis and Doctor Lee encouraging her from ti to ti. The more that Xiu i couldn’t speak, the more her mood dampened.
"Mr. Lu, if you could co closer please." Doctor Lee instructed. Lu Chen quickly complied and sat closely beside his wife. He subconsciously held her free hand and lightly massaged it with his fingers.
"Can you try again, little princess?" Doctor Lee coaxed.
Xiu i pursed her lips before opening her mouth again. However, even with the encouragent of both males, she still failed to speak.
Doctor Lee grew silent for a few seconds before he made up his mind.
"What about this? Mr. Lu and I will step out for a mont. Probably around ten minutes or so. When you’re all cald down and relaxed, could you try speaking again?"
Xiu i hesitantly nodded at his proposal. Glancing at Lu Chen for a few seconds, she forced out a smile.
Right now, her emotions were in a complete despite her calm exterior. She wasn’t even aware that she just woke up after sleeping for two months.
She was still feeling too shocked about her current situation.
She was very confused when she woke up alone inside the hospital room at first. But as soon as she saw Lu Chen’s figure and the expression on his face, her mories before she blacked out surged back flooding her mind.
It caused her emotions to heighten again. But when Lu Chen said that he missed her, Xiu i thought that he was talking about when he was still looking for her when she got kidnapped.
But as soon as she wanted to say that she missed him so much too, no sound ca out of her mouth. The shock and the fear that was whirling inside her mind was slowly tearing down her calm persona.
