Ling Chuxia had been running alongside the hospital bed the whole ti. The elevator was dark, and she couldn’t see Shi Che’s face; but now, under the dazzling hospital lights, she could see his face vividly—deathly pale, with not a trace of color, his dark eyes closed. He lay quietly on the bed, as if... he would sleep forever.
Ling Chuxia felt a choke in her heart, as if she couldn’t even breathe.
The nurses pushed Shi Che into the examination room. Ling Chuxia wanted to follow but was stopped by a nurse, who spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, "Miss, please wait outside."
With that, she pushed Ling Chuxia out a little and then swiftly drew the white curtain shut.
Ling Chuxia stood there dazed, her heart hanging in her throat, staring at the curtain almost blankly, unmoving. A nearby nurse noticed a slight bump and a trickle of blood on her forehead, hurried over, and said, "Miss, you have an injury on your forehead. Co over here, and let bandage it for you."
"Miss?"
Ling Chuxia, as if she hadn’t heard, stubbornly stood her ground. The nurse called out several tis, but she gave no response, her eyes fixed on the curtain.
The nurse, following her gaze and understanding a bit, couldn’t help but comfort her, "Don’t worry, the doctor will do his best. You should co and get bandaged; otherwise, you might pass out from blood loss before your boyfriend cos out."
Ling Chuxia still didn’t react, and the nurse sighed softly and walked away.
It felt like an eternity before the white curtain was drawn back, and a doctor in a white robe erged. Ling Chuxia’s dazed eyes suddenly ca to life, and she imdiately approached him, her voice trembling with extre anxiety, "Doctor, Shi Che... he’s okay, isn’t he?"
She didn’t dare ask if Shi Che was... she only dared to ask if he was okay.
The doctor, looking at Ling Chuxia’s pale, attempted smile, adjusted the glasses on his nose and spoke slowly, "The patient fell from a ten-story height and was severely shaken, but fortunately, he was crouching during the elevator fall and had been tightly holding the handrail, which helped buffer the impact. So, for now, he has no life-threatening injuries, but he has sustained minor fractures all over his body. As for other potential injuries, we need to conduct further detailed examinations to know the results."
No life-threatening injuries...
Just those six words allowed Ling Chuxia’s heart, which had been hanging in her throat, to slowly descend. Tears welled up and suddenly stread down her face.
She hadn’t dared to cry before; now, she couldn’t hold them back.
Thank goodness Shi Che wasn’t in life-threatening danger. If anything had truly happened to him... she couldn’t even bear to think about it.
"Thank you, Doctor, thank you," Ling Chuxia murmured without really being aware of it.
The doctor looked at her, nodded slightly, then shifted his gaze to her forehead; the blood had slowly trickled down from an untreated wound, the bright red liquid stark against her pale face, creating a rather startling sight.
The doctor slightly furrowed his brow, his voice gentle, "No need to thank , it’s my duty. You should get your wound treated first."
Only after relaxing a bit did Ling Chuxia realize that her forehead hurt terribly...
