Chuxia Ling spent a sleepless night, her eyes red and swollen, the undersides laced with scarlet veins. Her illness had not fully recovered, and after such a night, her complexion beca even more ghastly and pale.
Her elbow propped against the bed for quite a while, yet she couldn’t manage to sit up. She thought about making a phone call to request ti off, but her hand halted midway and withdrew.
Instead of staying ho wallowing in pointless sorrow, she’d rather go to work. At least when she was working, she wouldn’t have to think about all that ss.
Chuxia Ling blinked her eyes slowly, took a deep breath, then forcefully pushed herself up from the bed. When her feet hit the floor, her head spun with dizziness. She bit her lip hard, steadied herself in place for a mont, and then took a step toward the bathroom.
After washing up, Chuxia Ling sat at the vanity, looking at her haggard face and swollen eyes in the mirror. She clenched her hand slightly, then stood up and headed to the kitchen. Opening the fridge, she took out an ice pack and applied it directly to her eyes.
The cold spread from her eyes, chilling her so much that Chuxia Ling couldn’t help but shiver. But still, she persevered. Monts later, the redness and swelling in her eyes had subsided significantly, and she looked more spirited.
At eight-thirty, Chuxia Ling, carrying her bag, stepped out the door. As soon as she opened it, she saw the tall and straight figure standing outside. Her hand on the doorknob involuntarily paused.
Shi Che stood outside, his black eyes slowly eting hers. His gaze, as deep and tranquil as ever, held a calm and gentleness as he said, "Chuxia, good morning."
Hearing those three words, Chuxia Ling couldn’t help but find it laughable. She had made herself clear enough yesterday, so why could he still appear before her as if nothing had happened?
Chuxia Ling’s hand gripping the doorknob involuntarily tightened, but in an instant, her expression beca calm and detached. She opened the door wider and stepped out, as if Shi Che was rely a wisp of air, not even deserving of a glance.
No matter what he planned to do, no matter what tricks he had up his sleeve, she’d pay him no mind. If she couldn’t drive him away, then she would simply treat him as if he did not exist.
Chuxia Ling closed the door behind her and turned to walk toward the elevator. Shi Che watched her retreating figure, a dim light flickering in the depths of his eyes before disappearing. He then took a step, following her.
Just as Chuxia Ling was about to press the elevator button, another hand reached out ahead of hers, brushing against her’s in the process. Chuxia Ling’s brows knitted tightly, and she quickly retracted her hand.
After pressing the button, Shi Che also slowly retracted his hand, standing slightly behind Chuxia Ling. Even without seeing her expression, he could sense her resistance and impatience. He lowered his gaze as his deep voice slowly filled the space, "Chuxia, let take you to work. The subway can be unpleasantly crowded in the morning."
Having followed Chuxia Ling for so many days, he knew well that she commuted to work by squeezing into the subway. The first ti he saw it, his heart was filled with extre shock and pity. Unfortunately, at that ti, he couldn’t present himself before her.
But Chuxia Ling might as well have not heard Shi Che’s words. Her eyes didn’t change as the elevator doors opened, and she stepped in without hesitation, then reached for the close button.
Such a reaction was within Shi Che’s expectations. He wasn’t even fazed, stepping into the elevator right before the doors completely closed.
