The third ssage followed soon after, "What movie do you want to watch?"
Ling Chuxia didn’t actually want to watch any particular movie. After thinking for a mont and not coming up with anything, she spoke softly, "Mr. S, what would you like to watch?"
In the quiet cinema, her voice was low and carried a hint of gentleness, striking Shi Che’s heart directly.
Shrouded in darkness, he took a deep breath, suppressing the palpitations in his heart, and took out his phone to reply, "Whatever you want to watch is fine."
Ling Chuxia was slightly surprised by the ssage that ca back on her phone, and then sowhat curious. Mr. S had only injured his face, she had thought, and was expecting to hear his voice, wondering if it would be as gentle as she imagined.
Although a little disappointed, Ling Chuxia didn’t want to press the matter and curled her lips slightly, saying, "I don’t know what to watch either, anything will do."
Mr. S seed to think she was being too casual and let out a very faint laugh from the darkness, followed by another ssage, "Then let’s just play anything."
That faint laugh of his, though quiet, was too tranquil, and Ling Chuxia heard it, a familiar feeling rising involuntarily in her chest. However, before she had ti to think it over, the big screen lit up, and the movie began to play.
A person’s birthday, so drawn out, ti seed endless. Yet, perhaps because she knew soone was with her, the two-hour movie went by in the blink of an eye.
The big screen dimd once more, and just as Ling Chuxia was about to ask whether Mr. S was still there, strands of warm yellow light illuminated from behind her. Ling Chuxia turned around unconsciously.
Behind her, a cake had appeared at so point, with candles inserted on top, burning with a warm yellow glow. Ling Chuxia approached step by step, and the words on the cake slowly ca into view.
No fancy words, just the simple phrase: Chuxia, happy birthday.
Her eyes teared up slightly, and her nose began to sting uncontrollably. It had been so long, really so long, since anyone had bought her a cake, lit candles for her.
"Mr. S, are you still there?" she asked softly, her voice hoarse.
"I’m still here."
The phone pinged, and the ssage displayed on the screen. Ling Chuxia’s lips curled slightly, and she continued, "Thank you for the cake."
"Make a wish quickly."
"Okay."
Ling Chuxia responded, pressing her hands together in front of her, and gently closed her eyes.
From across the darkness, Shi Che watched her face illuminated by the faint firelight, observed the subtle curve on her lips, his heart soft as water.

That night, even though Mr. S remained hidden in the dark, Ling Chuxia was still very happy. He had spent her birthday with her, watched a movie with her, blown out candles with her, made a wish with her.
After returning ho, Ling Chuxia lay in bed, her emotions churning for a long ti. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and finally grabbed her phone to send Mr. S a WeChat ssage.
"Mr. S, thank you. It’s truly nice to know you. Once your face has healed, let properly treat you to a al."
Shi Che’s gaze remained fixed on those five words.
It’s truly nice to know you.
Sowhere in the depths of Shi Che’s dark eyes, ripples stirred, his lips curling into a slanted smile, his brows and eyes tinged with deep affection. He thought, at last, his chance had arrived.
