Chapter 783: 249. Science and Technology → Magic
“Let’s start by discussing the tal Wizards from the core circle. What are the Deep Sea Branch’s plans for them?” Noland asked.
Selena replied without hesitation:
“In the Deep Sea Branch’s ocean-going teams, tal Wizards mainly have three tasks.
“The first task is to repair damaged sailing ships.
“The second task is to use tal bullet magic to shoot and kill pirates that appear on the ships from a distance.
“The third task is to control the magical tal on the ships when the other team mbers are in battle, creating a protective barrier to prevent the ships from being destroyed by pirates.”
Selena continued:
“For the task of repairing damaged ships, tal Wizards are temporarily irreplaceable, as only they can quickly use tal magic to restore the ships’ ability to sail.
“But the work of remotely killing pirates and protecting our ships can be done by other types of wizards.
“In addition to replacing tal-series wizards with other wizards, Hotams is also considering using magical devices on ships to enhance their defensive capabilities.
“For example, installing magical circles on ships that can cast spells, or even placing magical turrets on the ships.”
Noland had seen the Deep Sea Branch’s team and their way of fighting at sea.
Wizards were both crew and combatants.
A wizard who could cast spells was the best “turret.”
One serving of magical cuisine and a few magic stones were consud for every hundred kiloters range, with automatic targeting, voice commands and intelligent responsive capabilities, plus self-maintenance and upkeep.
Except for complex interpersonal relationships that might affect the “shooting” efficiency, wizards were better in all aspects than real magical turrets.
Many years ago, the Ulnas Circle abandoned the design concept of placing turrets on vehicles.
In most cases, the Ulnas Circle would only place heavy turrets on urban defensive facilities for use as strategic weapons.
At this ti, the bullet magic mastered by tal Wizards showed its unique advantages.
That is, the range and accuracy of bullet magic were basically unrelated to the wizard’s “spirit.”
Before the magic projectile was launched and before it left the wizard’s casting range, the wizard could manually calibrate the shooting direction.
The projectile itself would also continue to fly until all its energy was exhausted.
Based on these two advantages, the actual effective attack range of tal Wizards could usually reach three to five tis their own casting range.
In a sense, Noland thought that tal-series wizards who focused on magic bullets were similar to snipers on the magic side.
Hotams’ decision to place heavy magical turrets on ships was probably due to their range.
This could, to so extent, make up for the firepower of the Deep Sea Branch’s ocean-going teams.
“It sounds like the future ships of the Deep Sea Branch will resemble the alien interstellar ships I saw last ti, Selena. Both use barriers and turrets to protect their ships…” Noland said.
Selena nodded in response:
“Yeah, that’s right. Hotams was inspired by the alien ships, which is why he ca up with this alternative plan.
“My eldest brother, Lonco Pomida, is currently working on developing lighter, more powerful magical turrets based on the weapons removed from the alien starship.
“Of course, the final product will definitely not contain tal and should be made of wood or stone as the material for the magical turret.”
Noland raised a hand in question:
“Wait, so you an the Deep Sea Branch here has alien weapons from a starship?”
“Yes, are you interested?” Selena blinked her eyes.
Noland pondered for a mont and said:
“I am indeed interested in the things of aliens. Can you show the real thing? I’m curious about their principles.”
Noland waved his hand:
“I won’t take advantage of you for nothing, Selena. If you can show what I want to see, I can provide you with so additional information about the Dread Sail.”
Selena lightly pinched her chin:
“Hmm… Then co with , I’ll take you for a tour of Lonco’s magic laboratory.
“There are weapons and suspected ammunition removed from alien starships, as well as so other alien devices. These things are not only being studied by the Deep Sea Branch but also by other wizard forces involved in the process.”
“Shall we go now?” Noland looked at the clock on the tabletop; it was now past seven in the evening:
“Won’t we be disturbing them?”
“No, we won’t be. However, I can only introduce you to the research results of the alien devices and not allow you to take them away,” Selena said.
“That’s enough. I’m just curious about the principles of the alien devices,” Noland responded.
Both of them stood up.
Selena controlled a miniature ocean to descend from the ceiling.
Noland followed her into the spherical miniature ocean.
After a dizzying teleportation experience, Noland arrived at Lonco’s magic laboratory.
This place was located underground in an island within the core circle.
The Deep Sea Branch had hollowed out the island’s mountain to build a large-scale magic laboratory.
According to Selena, this was the Deep Sea Branch’s Magic Laboratory 5, dedicated to the research of magical tools for fighting in the deep sea.
Noland and Selena were in the visitor’s room.
The main entrance of the visitor’s room was transparent glass, allowing for a clear view of the magic servants drifting past the door.
The whirlpool creatures made of liquid were transporting piles of magic materials to the end of the corridor.
