Chapter 1188: 372. Am I a genius?

The secret base of Division Intelligence Unit Two was established underground.

The crisp sounds of typewriters echoed in the air as streams of cigarette smoke curled from the passage of workers from Unit Two, the vast office bustling and lively, everyone hunched over their desks concentrating on the work in hand.

A few figures in black stand-up-collared suits were led by soldiers of Unit Two through the office area into the corridors behind, stopping outside the door of Acting Commander Morster.

The soldier knocked, reported, pushed the door open, and stepped aside to let the visitors through.

The figures behind him filed in, stepping into Morster’s office.

With a “click,” the door closed.

...

Morster sat in his seat without rising to greet the visitors, rely gesturing toward chairs opposite his desk, he said:

“We both know each other well, so let’s skip the pleasantries. Please sit. Is there sothing that requires your personal presence here?”

There were three visitors.

A flash of light swept over them, shedding their disguises and trading their black suits for golden-white magic robes.

The new arrivals were none other than the Light Wizards from the Pure Light Sect staying in Revival City, Lamont and his two companions.

About half an hour ago, Morster had received letters from both the Earth Vein Pillar and the Pure Light Court.

The letter from the Pure Light Court was a notice stating that they had questions to ask Morster in person and would cast a detection spell to make sure Morster didn’t lie.

The letter from the Earth Vein Pillar ca from Morster’s current ntor, admonishing him to cooperate with the Pure Light Court’s investigation and answer whatever the Light Wizards asked.

The fact that his ntor so earnestly advised him to cooperate with the Pure Light Court’s investigation indicated that the matter the Light Wizards were probing was of extre gravity, and that it was related to the Land of Revival.

Morster recalled, and it seed there had been no significant incidents recently, had there?

Revival City was peaceful and orderly.

It was just that the undead spirits in the Grave Vault had been a bit too quiet. Could it be that this was what the Pure Light Court was here for?

With questions in his mind, Morster invited the visiting Light Wizards to sit down and used [Mage’s Hand] to bring over tea cups.

The three Light Wizards sat side by side, with Lamont in the middle.

He carefully weighed his words before asking:

“You should have received the letter about cooperating with our investigation, right?”

“Yes,” Morster nodded slightly, the interplay of light and shadow flickering across his silver-white tal mask:

“Can you tell exactly what it’s about? To my knowledge, there hasn’t been any major incident recently.”

“Indeed, an incident has occurred, it’s just that so far, only a very few people are aware of it.”

Lamont, having t Morster a few tis before and having a bit of a rapport with him, took a conciliatory tone to lay out the facts for him to understand:

“The thing is, Morster. About three days ago, an extrely important magical item was lost from the base that the Pure Light Court established within Revival City…”

Morster’s facial lines tightened slightly.

Sohow, he felt related to this matter, or at least to soone he knew—yet he couldn’t recall who that person was…

Morster, wearing his mask, concealed his expressions well, affording him ample ti to adjust his ntal state.

While listening to Lamont recount the incident, Morster thought hard.

Gradually, sothing ca to him.

He seed to have signed a rather mysterious soul contract recently.

Morster concentrated, sensing his own Spiritual Ocean, and in this ocean filled with energy points, he found the phantom of this soul contract.

After reading it once, Morster’s heartbeat involuntarily quickened.

Eight or nine tis out of ten, it was the signatory of this contract who had stolen sothing from the Pure Light Court!

Why would he say that?

Because the content of this soul contract was extrely simple yet exceedingly strict.

The Contractor had paid a large sum of Soul Energy in exchange for Morster drinking an Oblivion Potion.

That was it.

The content of the contract was no more than that.

Morster didn’t rember when he drank the potion, what he had forgotten, or even who the Contractor was.

Without much thought, based purely on the experience Morster had accumulated over the years dealing with the Death Herald Guild and the Undead Cult, he could determine:

The elusive Contractor must have stolen sothing from the Pure Light Court.

Even if he hadn’t been the thief, he was certainly related to the incident.

But who was this individual?

How had he found Morster, persuaded him to drink the potion, and voluntarily forget his mory?

Was it all because of the Soul Energy he offered?

Morster checked his own Spiritual Ocean and discovered a whopping 3 million points of Soul Energy.

Alright then.

That mysterious figure had indeed persuaded the Morster of the ti, as 3 million points of Soul Energy was no small amount, certainly enough to buy him off…

But what sort of background did this person have?

Morster frowned deeply in thought.

He glanced at Lamont and his two companions sitting opposite.

He had never imagined that as the Acting Commander of Division Intelligence Unit Two, he’d beco the subject of soone else’s investigation, and moreover, he was indeed involved in the incident.

That brought a touch of irony to Morster’s heart.

He quickly steadied his mind and brushed away the odd feeling.

With things having co to this point, he knew he’d unwittingly boarded the mysterious person’s “pirate ship.”

The wisest course of action was undoubtedly to keep mum about the soul contract.
