“Don’t thank . You do realize that we have to win this war first and the people’s cooperation will also be necessary,” Ren said sternly.
“Yes, I am aware. Thank you, Ren,” I said and ended up thanking him again.
“Enough of this serious talk for today,” Ren said before he heaved a sigh. He seed worn out and stressed.
“When will the fighting start?” I asked one last question.
Doctor Kai told us that it would probably start tomorrow. Ren should know best though.
“It’s already ongoing but our army will probably join in tomorrow,” Ren replied flatly.
“You too? Will you fight too?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.
“I’m not sure. It depends on how our first wave of reinforcent does when they join with the army that is already engaged in battle,” Ren replied honestly.
I didn’t want to tire him further with talks of my worries and fear, so I just nodded in acceptance. Tomorrow or the day after or soday soon, Ren would be heading out to join the battle. I knew that and I knew that I had to try my hardest to accept it.
“Let’s go to sleep. Tomorrow will start early,” Ren said as he pulled along towards the bed.
I looked down at the bed and was reminded of how small and narrow it was. Unlike the bed in the palace this bed was made for travel and was ant to accommodate only one person and that person would be Ren. Of course, other people probably just slept on the floor. Only the crown prince and perhaps so high-ranking generals had beds.
“Don’t bla the bed for being small. Bla for yourself for turning up without permission. You should have told Shin to pack you a bed while he was smuggling you along,” Ren said without any sympathy.
“I’m not blaming anything or anyone...” I muttered softly.
“Co...we can squeeze,” Ren said as sat down on the bed and started pulling down with him.
The bed was small but that ant that I got to sleep in Ren’s arms. It’s been many days since I’ve seen him and held him like this. In the middle of the battlefield that was new and full of uncertainties or , being in his arm felt blissfully secure and comforting.
When Ren said that we should go to sleep, he really ant it. After a while of holding in his arms, I felt’s Ren’s breathing beco steady as he fell asleep. On the other hand, I couldn’t sleep at all. Too anxious about what would happen tomorrow, I couldn’t fall asleep. I tried my best to stay still in Ren’s arms so that I wouldn’t disturb his sleep. The tent was quite dark with so light coming in through the fabric of the tent from the fire outside.
I let out a soft sigh as I thought about the war starting tomorrow for us. Everyone is going to be so busy and there will probably be many patients for us to tend to. Suddenly, I felt the arms around move and Ren shifted his weight on the bed.
“Can’t sleep?” Ren whispered softly into my ears.
“I’m sorry...I guess, I’m just feeling too anxious...” I replied quietly.
“It’s normal. It’s your first ti out here and sleeping in a tent. It’s not comfortable, right?” Ren said, sounding very understanding.
It wasn’t that it wasn’t uncomfortable, but I was just too scared and worried to fall asleep.
“I just can’t stop thinking about the war tomorrow. I’m sorry that I woke you,” I said regretfully.
Ren’s hand gently cupped my cheek and turned my head around to face him before he softly kissed my lips. My eyes widened in surprise before I slowly closed them to concentrate on the feel of Ren’s warm lips on my own. He kissed softly as his arms tightened around my body. I could feel the heat of his body against my back as our kiss deepened.
His wet tongue probed my closed lips, seeking for entry and I parted my lips willingly for him. I sighed with satisfaction as his tongue slipped into my mouth and mingled with my own.
