Chapter 484: Mocker’s

Seeing Kaiden’s blunt advice, Harry nodded. While he agreed in his heart, he also silently encouraged himself.

“One day, I’ll write a hit book that doesn’t follow trends, one that carries my personal style and starts a new wave!!”

Harry muttered firmly to himself while staring at the computer screen. The first person who ca to mind was Clara.

One of the rewards for successfully conquering Clara was a phenonally popular book. Perhaps now that he was playing a bit wild, though he still wanted to keep writing, the mont he pressed the keyboard, he realized he had lost patience.

Working hard to write was effort, and working hard to conquer his sister in law Clara to claim the reward was also effort. Harry felt that putting in the effort to conquer Clara was much more practical…

“Ding ding ding” Just then, the 18K editor in chief Glai, whom Harry had been waiting for, finally replied.

18K Editor in Chief Glai: [Then, would you be interested in writing for us? Our website has new investors now and is in urgent need of excellent authors to join! Our current policies are especially favorable! The minimum guaranteed rate is USD 20 per thousand words! As long as you pass the review, you’ll get at least USD 20 per thousand words plus USD 8 per thousand words for the full attendance bonus!]

“USD 20 plus USD 8 for full attendance, that’s USD 28 per thousand words! This rate really isn’t low! It seems 18K has indeed secured major investnt this ti and is going all out.”

Harry muttered to himself, feeling sowhat tempted. But then he thought, USD 28 per thousand words, even for a million words, would only be USD 28,000. A million words, writing ten thousand words a day, would take nearly three years!

This amount of money was nothing more than… a drop in the bucket for him.

At this thought, Harry imdiately lost interest. However, the obsession in his heart made Harry still want to give it a try.

With the mindset of treating a dead horse as if it were alive, Harry dug out the rejected manuscript from Takeoff Chinese Network and sent it directly.

My Heart Won’t Die: [“…File”]

18K Network Editor-in-Chief Glai: [“Send it to my email, don’t send it directly.”]

My Heart Won’t Die: [“Got it! Sending it to your email right away.”]

With a mix of nervousness and excitent, Harry opened his email and sent the manuscript over.

His vanity made his heart itch, and he couldn’t help but ask:

My Heart Won’t Die: [“Editor-in-Chief, can I ask how you found ? Have you read my other works before?”]

18K Chinese Network Editor-in-Chief Glai: [“Uh… no, actually. I saw you in an author group and just asked around…”]

The reply struck Harry’s soul, shattering the last bit of vanity he had left. Harry guessed that the other party was probably just a small editor lacking manuscripts, newly appointed, with no authors under them, randomly adding author groups and casting a wide net.

Before contacting him, they had probably already reached out to who knows how many authors.

Harry sighed gloomily. The suffocating resentnt in his heart refused to go away. No matter how rich or successful he beca, as long as he didn’t vent this anger, he might never find peace in this lifeti, forever haunted by the grudge he held from his writing career.

This only strengthened Harry’s determination to make a sensational debut in the online writing circle and wash away his past humiliation.

Don’t worry about not having friends on the road ahead, for who in this world doesn’t know you? Harry would definitely make a coback!

Harry gritted his teeth fiercely, swearing inwardly.

Just then, a ssage popped up in the Takeoff signed authors’ chat group, ntioning him. Curious, Harry clicked on it and found that it was actually his forr editor, from his Takeoff writing days, tagging him!

Group 4 Editor: [“@My Heart Won’t Die Why have you disappeared lately? Not even chatting, not sending new book openings. Did you go to another site?”]

Group 4 Editor: [“Look at others who started around the sa ti as you. Daia’s old book is now at 1.5 million words, ranked 256th on the bestseller list, with daily sales over 800. Coffee’s new book is already first in the test rankings. They both followed . How co you can’t even get a contract?”]

Group 4 Editor: [“Everyone, don’t learn from My Heart Won’t Die. Always aiming too high, full of literary pretentiousness. I told him so many tis to follow trends, but he refused, insisting on innovating. And now? He can’t even get a contract! Probably already quit the scene.”]

Group 4 Editor: [“I rember when he first signed with , he even boasted about writing a hit and becoming a big shot at Takeoff…”]

Harry’s expression grew increasingly ugly as he read editors words.

Especially when a bunch of authors below started kissing up to editors, it made Harry feel sick and indignant.

From their chat logs, it seed editors was once again lecturing the new authors in the group. Calling it a lecture was generous—it was just editors showing off, spouting nonsense with no substance, while putting others down to elevate himself, forcing the authors in the group to flatter him.

Daia: [“Haha, I knew from the start that My Heart Won’t Die was no good. No talent, too stubborn, full of literary pretentiousness. He didn’t listen to Editor, and quitting is the right choice for him.”]

Small Rookie Reporting: [“Wow! It’s Big Shot Daia! Big Shot Daia is here too!”]

Hardworking Small Rookie: [“Big Shot Daia is my goal! Editor is right, we should learn from Big Shot Daia!”]

No Longer a Rookie: [“Listening to Editor is always the right move!”]

Editor’s Little Fanboy: [“Editor is forever the god!”]

Seeing Daia’s condescending tone while talking about him like this, Harry couldn’t help but frown. Back when Daia’s book first started, it was just like his—flopped in the test rankings. At the ti, Daia wanted to quit, but it was Harry who kept encouraging him.

Later, Harry’s book took off first, with daily sales exceeding 500. Harry even gave Daia’s book chapter recomndations every day, bringing him a lot of readers. When Daia had no money for food, it was Harry who lent him 1,000 USD, which Daia still hadn’t paid back to this day!

Honestly, if it weren’t for Harry’s help back then, Daia would never have persisted and would’ve dropped out long ago, never achieving the success he had now.

Coffee: [“Alright, alright, let’s not talk about My Heart Won’t Die anymore. Let’s continue listening to Editor’s lecture!”]

Though Coffee didn’t speak up for Harry, Harry could still sense Coffee’s goodwill.
