It was the next day. Lorenzo woke up early in the morning with the hope that he would sohow be able to uncover the whereabouts of King Everard at the ti of the late alpha’s death.
As he went through the pile of new clothes that were provided by Regulus, he was thinking to himself, ‘Now that he is the King, I can’t use much of His Majesty’s ti just for chatting. I think it is better if I go to the castle before the working hours begin. That way, maybe I can talk for a little bit longer.’
After getting dressed up, he put the pass in the pocket of his coat and headed out of the guest room. From the guest room, he headed straight to find the new Lord of the mansion in the master bedroom.
‘I hope Lord Regulus is already awake by now. I heard he is a morning person,’ Lorenzo thought to himself as he was walking down the relatively dark corridor.
When he reached the master bedroom, Lorenzo was sowhat taken aback to see two giant n standing guard in front of the door.
‘Is everything okay? Why are they standing guard?’ Lorenzo thought to himself. He was sowhat scared thinking that sothing big might have gone down for Regulus to resort to guards.
“Umm…” Lorenzo stood in front of the door and gulped when he ca face to face with those guards. They were glaring down at him as if they were going to beat him up for no reason.
“Sorry, but… may I know if Lord Regulus is inside?” he asked with a little shaky voice.
“What’s the purpose of your visit?” one of the guards asked Lorenzo in such a thunderous voice that Regulus smirked evilly when he saw Lorenzo frantically darting his eyes around the room. He looked 22:38
like a trapped mouse.
Lorenzo’s soul almost left his body right on the spot.
“Er… umm… I need to take permission from Lord Regulus. It’s sothing important,” he blurted out to the guard.
The guard narrowed his eyes at Lorenzo and kept on glaring at him for so ti. Lorenzo was holding his breath, hoping that he didn’t accidentally do sothing to anger that guard, or Lord Regulus for that matter.
Finally, the guard knocked on the door and announced, “Milord, Lorenzo is here to see you.”
Regulus was obviously already aware of Lorenzo’s arrival. He was just waiting for the guard to announce Lorenzo's presence. “Let him in,” he ordered after settling down on the comfortable armchair by the side of the huge bed.
“Good morning, Milord,” Lorenzo greeted the Lord with a bow. He noticed how Regulus looked sowhat cautious the mont he entered the room. And he also couldn’t help but notice the shadow of that guard looming over him.
‘I did sothing, didn’t I?’ Lorenzo thought to himself as a drop of cold sweat trickled down his spine.
And Regulus imdiately proved that he was indeed unhappy with Lorenzo. “I thought I could trust you, Lorenzo,” he said in a cold tone, his eyes giving a piercing glare to the poor man who was unaware of what he did to anger the Lord.
“I…” Lorenzo unintentionally looked around the room while stuttering, “I d-don’t understand, Milord. D-Did I do sothing?” He was subconsciously looking for an escape route, but unfortunately, all the windows and doors of the bedroom were shut. To add to that, the giant guard was standing right behind him.
Regulus smirked evilly when he saw Lorenzo frantically darting his eyes around the room. He looked like a trapped mouse.
He folded his arms and then asked Lorenzo, “I don’t know. You tell .”
Lorenzo wiped the sweat beads that were forming rapidly on his forehead. He couldn’t think of anything that might have displeased the Lord.
He looked down at the floor and restlessly thought to himself, ‘He doesn’t know I am not completely on his side, does he? I have been trying to find the answer as he had asked. Then what happened overnight? Why is he suddenly questioning like this?’
Suddenly, Regulus slamd his fist on the armrest of the chair as though he was growing impatient.
Lorenzo was startled out of his thoughts and was forced to look at the Lord. “If I did sothing wrong, please tell , Milord. I will try to correct my action,” he mumbled in fear.
Regulus crossed his legs and rested his head. And he asked in the most nonchalant manner, “You know Ruby, don’t you?”
“R-Ruby?” Lorenzo knitted his brows and gave a questioning gaze to Regulus.
Regulus smiled at Lorenzo. But that smile looked so nacing that Lorenzo could hear his heart beating like a massive drum in his chest.
“Drop the act, Lorenzo.” Regulus was still smiling. “I already know that you two have been talking with each other. I know everything that happens within this mansion. I have eyes and ears everywhere.”
Lorenzo suddenly felt really weak as if sothing just slipped out of his body. His knees were about to give up on him but he forced himself to stand up straight and even talk. “Yes, I do know her, Milord. But doesn’t everyone know her? I an, she lives here… So…”
Regulus chuckled at that ditch effort from Lorenzo to prevent the truth from surfacing. But since he already knew a few things, he confidently said to Lorenzo, “I know that she is an old acquaintance of yours. You knew her before eting her here in the guest quarter. So…”
He suddenly got up on his feet and stood right in front of Lorenzo. He stared deep into his soul and asked in a low growl, “So, tell , Lorenzo. Why did it never occur to you that you should warn about her real identity?”
Lorenzo held his breath and subconsciously took a step back when he saw those sharp teeth of Regulus. But he was pushed forward by the guard who was standing like a pillar behind him.
Regulus grabbed Lorenzo by his neck and snarled at him, “Were you perhaps trying to protect that woman? Or are you just pretending to work for when in fact you are working for the King?”
Lorenzo could only choke for air as he was being strangled by that madman.
Regulus was still shouting at that man choking for air, “Tell who you are working for? or the King? Tell who you are protecting. Tell everything that you are hiding from , you bootlicker!”
Regulus gritted his teeth and lifted Lorenzo by his neck with ease. He then slamd Lorenzo down on the floor with such great force that a huge crack ford on the floor.
“Arghhhh!” Lorenzo coughed and scread in pain. He was tearing up and was struggling to even move or think properly. Everything was happening so fast that his mind was unable to keep up.
Regulus, on the other hand, was getting impatient. He instantly stepped on Lorenzo’s chest and scread while displaying his glowing yellow eyes and a full set of sharp teeth, “I swear I will dig your grave right here if you don’t speak right now!”
Lorenzo grabbed Regulus’ shoes with both of his hands and pleaded, “I will speak! I will speak! Just let speak!”
Regulus’ face imdiately returned to normal. And as if nothing had happened, he smiled and asked Lorenzo in his normal voice, “So speak up then.”
