"Order whatever you want. Don’t hold back on my account."

When we finally reached the front of the line, Kyrie’s hand gestured toward the nu board. I studied the options briefly, then nodded decisively.

"Two of the classic cheeseburgers with everything, one sweet potato fries and one regular potato wedges, and..."

For a mont I trailed off, considering the ’milkshakes’ listed on the board. There was a bottle of milk already in that bag in her hand.

But I’m not very accustod to how these things work here. Would it even still be safe to consu later, with how long it has been out of a cooler?

Vague mories of how quickly the product can spoil tells that I should look it up later before I try and drink it. With the child to worry about, I should not take risks.

The whole idea of drinking another creature’s refrigerated milk in the first place is sort of strange. But considering that I’m aware delicious butter and cheese are made from it... I was pretty interested in trying.

"One vanilla and one strawberry shake."

The bearded man at the counter tapped my order into his device. Computers truly are inescapable here!

"Will that be everything for you both?"

I tilted my head, montarily confused by his assumption. Then I realized he misunderstood my intentions!

"Oh, no. That’s all just for . She hasn’t ordered yet."

As I wave toward the woman standing... really closebeside , his mouth opened in an ’o’ for a second before he caught himself. He glanced between us with a quick nod.

"Right. Sorry, what can I get you then?"

Kyrie’s lips curved into a deeper smile as she stared at instead of looking at him. Her eyes seem filled with amusent at the rather large order.

> I suppose that’s better than judgnt... though I wish she’d stop staring quite so... much. <

"I’ll have the grilled chicken sandwich. Bottled water is fine."

"Alright. Your total is..."

While the Ricoat Alpha finally stopped looking at for a mont to pay, I stepped over to the side and brushed a hand through my hair. Standing so close to her this whole ti has been like peering over the edge of a cliff.

> The danger of losing your life with a misstep. The thrill of seeing things from an angle most would never dare. <

I felt her gaze return to . Both through the natural senses of an animal in this body and the dull buzz of | Mother’s Intuition |.

When I looked over, there was sothing appreciative in her expression. A look that made both uncomfortable and pleased all at once - but of course I chose to narrow my eyes.

"What?"

"Nothing. Just realizing that I like a woman with a healthy appetite."

Sothing about her statent gets under my skin. A fairly soft, but obvious sneer accompanies my raised chin.

"Should I be flattered that my eating habits et with your approval?"

"You don’t need to be, no. I was just speaking a thought out loud. Because you asked."

Her calm response worsens the feeling. My eyes cut away and stare at a group of won eating what looks to be a large ’pizza’ together.

"...How many others have you been evaluating like that?"

She takes a step closer and turns, facing the sa direction as instead of continuing to stare. Again, that mysteriously irritated feeling calms in so ways and burns in others.

> I don’t like this sensation. Vrika, do you know what is going on? <

My wolf could care less about my question, just happy that its fated mate is standing nearby. At least it isn’t howling and begging to get closer anymore.

"I have not had a lot of opportunities to think about it. Not with any seriousness. I’ve never courted anyone... or thought I would ever get to."

"Hmm. So you’re saying your type is just whoever the lunar goddess points you toward. Good to know."

My quietly grumbled words do not go unnoticed. I see Kyrie Voss, the confident CEO, look down to the asphalt with another vulnerable look.

"You really cut with your words, Princess. So I’m sorry if this sounds like I am lashing out. It’s not what I an by it. But..."

She turns to et my eyes - and I see no hostility. Just so small sorrow that seems aid... at .

"Don’t you know, personally, that it’s quite possible to hate the one you are bonded with?"

The woman is obviously speaking of Helene and Jace. On that example alone, I have no fair coback.

Besides, I’m suddenly more... upset over how much she already seems to know... to want to bother arguing. Does that an that the Duskpaw have tried to contact her already about ?

> Rogues are reported to the council. Description, na, and expected reason they left or what cri they committed. As far as her mories tell . <

I appear in the mindscape already underneath Vrika in my fox form, taking shelter underneath its front limbs.

> So she knows this body has been mated to a male before. <

Honestly, that makes feel... disgusting. To have lived thirty one years without such a thing in my world, only to now be seen as having an interest in n.

A little of my nausea builds, again. But I hold it down while turning my face up toward the sky, simply breathing for a while.

The slls of cooked and cooking food, dozens and dozens of humans, and one Alpha entering my nose. Of course, focusing on the last helps... annoyingly.

"Yes, I suppose I do. Which is why I take no pleasure in any of the attention you are showing because of this... thing between us."

Another quiet period passes after I speak my mind. I’m not sure why I thought she would try and counter my statent imdiately.

Why I didn’t think she would take her ti to consider her words. Maybe it says more about , expecting a quick response to what I said...

"I understand. Since the first ti we t, that was pretty clear. You are against unwanted bonds."

Looking over, I see that she is watching my hand as it glides through my hair. Realizing my nervous habit was letting too much of my emotions through, I quickly stopped.

"Sharp tongue, firm stances, and large appetite. Strong personality, survival instincts, bold provocations - all of it. That’s Citra Lomdi... and nothing to do with your wolf and mine, right?"

With a turn of a head away from her, I hold my tongue. Because I really want to clarify that I’m not actually a big eater, normally.

Food in this world is just surprisingly good, this body and its tabolism seems to need more nutrition than my last, and most importantly...

> The more that I think about it, I did sneak a lot of food from the royal kitchens, didn’t I?
