"Help ?" Victoria Sinclair gave a bitter smile, her heart aching with resentnt, and retorted rcilessly, "Would giving money to my mom just solve the problem once for all?"

Eugene Vaughn couldn’t promise Mrs. Sinclair wouldn’t co back to bother Victoria later, so he fell silent.

"You can’t resolve my mom’s marriage pressure just like you can’t solve the threats from Vivian Miller who keeps trying to kill herself," Victoria’s emotions surged, her eyes turning moist as she spoke each word firmly, "I like peaceful, simple, and harmless relationships. As soon as I’m involved with you, Eugene, those around you won’t stop bothering , disrupting my life and career, making feel utterly disgusted."

With those words, Victoria passed him and walked toward the door with tears in her eyes.

Eugene froze for a few seconds, then quickly turned to grab Victoria’s arm.

Victoria stopped her pace, staring ahead, angrily asking, "Haven’t I made myself clear? You only bring misfortune and can’t help solve any of my problems, I beg you to stop harassing ."

Eugene’s face darkened, his chest heaving, eyes rimd with redness, "You tell nothing and won’t let do anything, but then bla for not being able to solve the problems?"

Victoria gave a cold laugh, took a deep breath, trying to swallow her tears, finally speaking after a mont, "Your dad once bribed my colleague to steal several virus monkeys to threaten . He said if I didn’t comply, he’d let those monkeys spread the virus in society and get thrown into prison. Although I know the truth, I have no proof—can you deal with your dad?"

Eugene was shocked, breathing rapidly, rushing in front of Victoria, grasping her arms, trembling with anger, eyes burning with intense fire, "When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell ?"

Victoria saw the man’s tear-filled, fiery eyes, making her heart race.

"I didn’t tell you because you and he are forever bound as father and son, and you can’t change anything, nor can you help ."

Eugene lowered his head with a bitter smile, shrouded in sadness.

Victoria spoke lightly, filled with disappointnt, "Just like now, I gave you a chance to choose between and Vivian Miller, you wanted both love and Vivian’s well-being. I chose to stay away from you, yet you bla for not letting you help?"

Eugene slowly released his hands, letting them fall powerless, closing his eyes to take a deep breath.

Victoria walked past him, Eugene didn’t chase after her, ruffling his short hair, breathing out as if his chest was blocked with stone.

Victoria walked out of the café.

Outside, the sunlight was exceptionally bright, with not many people on the road.

Her heart was completely cold, striding toward the research institute.

Suddenly, urgent footsteps sounded behind her.

Eugene caught up with her, blocking her path, his tear-stained eyes deep and forlorn.

Victoria stopped, looking at him, clenching her fists in anger, shouting without regard to her image, "Can’t you stay away from ?"

"I can’t." Eugene’s voice was choked and trembling, his breath rapid, forcing a bitter smile, "Victoria Sinclair, you’re right; whether it’s my dad or Vivian Miller, they are family who accompanied growing up. You think I can’t solve their issues for a reason, but..."

He paused for a few seconds, his deep gaze fixed on her, cupping her cheeks, "Victoria Sinclair, have you ever made feel like my efforts were worthwhile?"

Victoria was sowhat dazed, pondering the aning of his words.

Eugene spoke as if bleeding, "Did you ever love ? Even a hint of liking? Even if it’s just deceiving , coaxing , did you ever?"

Victoria was stunned.

Eugene seed pierced by countless arrows, his heart aching uncontrollably, tears brimming at the corners of his eyes as his hands trembled slightly, voice shaking and hoarse, "Did you ever give hope? Even just a comforting lie, I could fight the world for you."

Victoria’s heart felt cut, pain nearly suffocating, tears uncontrollably welling.

Was she hiding her heart too well, giving Eugene no hope, creating the present situation?

Eugene bitterly laughed, asking coldly, "From the resolute divorce to rejecting now, how much do you hate ?"

Victoria couldn’t answer, tears silently falling, sliding down her pale cheeks.

Seeing her tears, Eugene panicked, his voice soft and gentle, "Victoria, don’t cry, your emotions shouldn’t fluctuate now, be good, don’t cry, it’s my fault."

His thumb gently wiped away her tears, pulling her into his arms, holding her shoulders closely, soothing in a gentle tone, "I shouldn’t have been greedy, nor forced you. If you don’t love, you don’t love. Not saying it aloud is fine, not lying to doesn’t matter."

His voice was so gentle, yet each word so humble.

Was he truly in love with her that he’d comfort and heal himself, reassure himself?

Victoria montarily lost in thought, reason withdrawn, heart aching, buried her face in his solid, warm chest, wanting to cry,

Not knowing why she felt so sad, slowly speaking, "What do you want from ?"

Eugene’s body froze slightly, arms tightening, soothingly holding her, "Marriage to , or telling you love ."

Victoria hesitated for a long ti, remaining quiet in his embrace, her mind blank.

Eugene pressed his cheek close to her ear, whispering hoarsely, "Not even willing to deceive ?"

Victoria was moved deep down, perhaps his embrace too warm, letting her forget her resolve, gradually speaking, "Who said I never loved you? Of the many n pursuing , you were the first to move my heart. Those two months before marriage were the happiest ti of my life. If I didn’t love you, why would I marry you? If I didn’t love you, why would I endure two years of coldness after marriage? If I didn’t love you, why would I need six months traveling to relax after the divorce? If I didn’t love you, why would I sleep with you, even..."

Got pregnant stopped in her throat.

She realized she’d said too much.

Eugene’s arms grew tighter, seemingly wanting to pull her into his chest, crush her heart.

Victoria felt her body pained by his grip, Eugene’s hands trembling, breath hot, blowing on her neck, making her body weak.

Victoria pushed hard against his chest, "But those are all past. Now I only want to keep distance from you. Eugene, as a proper ex, you should disappear from the other’s life, like you’re dead."

Eugene gently shook his head, mumbling softly, "Victoria, let’s remarry."

Victoria’s body stiffened, reason returned sharply, fearfully pushing him hard.

Eugene stepped back, releasing her.

"Impossible." Victoria coldly refused, turning away, "Don’t co looking for again."

With that, she decisively walked forward.

Eugene didn’t chase.

She thought Eugene understood rejection.

Yet, she seed wrong.

Even regretting saying those loving words about him.

After work in the evening, Victoria returned to her apartnt, it was past seven thirty.

She had to analyze the data structure sheet on hand, so she didn’t cook dinner, made instant noodles.

She hadn’t had instant noodles for a long ti, recently having a poor appetite, with severe pregnancy reactions, especially craving instant noodles.

Just as she poured hot water to soak them, the doorbell rang.

Victoria put down the kettle, covered the lid, and went to unlock the door.

Eugene Vaughn pushed open the door and walked in, carrying large bags of groceries with one hand.

"What are you doing?" Victoria Sinclair was stunned, pushing against his chest with both hands to stop him from entering.

Eugene grasped her wrist with one hand, pulling her into an embrace with a gentle yet firm attitude, "I just got off work and happened to pass by, so I thought I’d co up and cook dinner."

"Didn’t I make myself clear this morning?" Victoria glared at him in frustration.

Eugene’s lips curled slightly, his eyes twinkling with a hint of a smile, "Very clear, you used to love ."

Victoria was so angered she couldn’t find words, biting her lower lip, taking a deep breath, and frowning at him.

Eugene’s gaze swept over the dining table inside, his eyes darkening. He released her, changed into slippers, and walked in.

"You’re eating instant noodles?" Eugene’s voice rose slightly, clearly displeased, and when he turned to look at her, it was with a reproachful gaze.

"What’s wrong with eating instant noodles?" Victoria walked over.

Eugene swiftly carried the instant noodles into the kitchen and directly tossed them into the trash can.

Victoria followed, seeing this, a wave of grievance surged in her heart, making her furious.

"Why did you rush into my house and throw away my instant noodles?" Victoria’s eyes were already wet.

With the influence of hormones, her mood was already unstable, and, being pregnant, she hadn’t had much of an appetite. She had been craving instant noodles for a long ti.

He just didn’t understand how torturous and unbearable it was when a pregnant woman craved sothing and couldn’t have it.

Eugene put down the groceries and said softly, "I bought grouper, Qingyuan chicken, Zhanjiang oysters, and Japanese Wagyu beef. I’ll make you sothing delicious."

"I don’t want it." Victoria angrily ran to the trash can, trying to retrieve the discarded bowl of instant noodles.

Eugene rushed over, grabbing her wrist and pulling her in front of him, "Victoria, instant noodles have no nutritional value. I’ll cook sothing nutritious and tasty for you."

Victoria shook off his touch, stepping back and looking at him with teary eyes, a hint of anger in her gaze, icily saying, "Eugene, who do you think you are? What gives you the right to barge into my ho? What I eat is my freedom; what right do you have to interfere in my life? Are you that free? Don’t you have to take care of Vivian?"

Eugene was montarily at a loss, "Don’t cry, where are the instant noodles? I’ll make you a new bowl."

Victoria only then realized her vision was blurred by tears.

Why had she beco so prone to crying?

Coming to her senses, she hurriedly wiped away her tears, walked over to the cabinet, and reached up to open the door.

When she tiptoed, Eugene ca up behind her, easily retrieving the cup noodles from the top cabinet, "I’ll make it, you wait outside for a while, alright?"

Victoria turned around, looking at him standing so close, then slowly raised her head, her emotions sowhat stabilized, "I can make it myself."

Eugene said, "When I finish the dishes, you can eat them with the noodles, okay?"

Victoria said nothing.

Eugene coaxed softly, "If you don’t eat, these ingredients will go to waste."

Victoria, sulking, sarcastically replied with a very faint tone, "Put it down, I can cook it myself. You’d better go back, lest your childhood sweetheart can’t find you, and ends up crying, making a scene, and threatening to hang herself. Don’t bla if sothing happens."

Eugene raised his eyebrows slightly, the corners of his mouth curling up, "I never realized you could get jealous too."

Victoria was taken aback, staring at him in astonishnt and snorted coldly.

Eugene placed the instant noodles in a corner of the counter, unbuttoned his cuffs, and casually folded them, "Vivian lives in Splendor Estate, with caregivers, therapists, and a whole house of people taking care of her. I always live in our ho, only occasionally dropping by Splendor Estate to see Grandma and rarely staying overnight there."

"Why are you explaining this to ?" Victoria was puzzled, clenching her jaw.

Eugene continued washing vegetables, "Isn’t it because you’re jealous?"

"I’m not jealous," Victoria denied, her attitude unwavering, "I just find you annoying and want you to leave."

"Fine, you’re not jealous," Eugene’s tone was soft and amused, "I’ll finish making dinner and leave imdiately."

"You..." Victoria just opened her mouth to speak when the oyster sll suddenly hit her, causing her to gag, quickly covering her mouth and unable to suppress the urge to vomit.

"Ugh..." She covered her mouth, bent over as if to vomit, then hurriedly turned and ran out of the kitchen.

Eugene panicked, looking visibly nervous.

He quickly washed his hands, grabbed tissues, and wiped his hands as he walked out.

Victoria walked out to the living room and felt better, the nausea subsiding.

Eugene ca to her side, one arm lightly draped over her shoulder, the other hand brushing her belly in panic, "What’s wrong? Feeling unwell anywhere?"

The mont his hand touched her slightly rounded belly, she reacted like a startled bird, quickly pushing his hand away and stepping back two steps, "Nothing... nothing..."

She wore loose clothing, making her flat abdon reveal nothing conspicuous.

But the feeling under his hand was very real, the slight firmness of the bump.

Eugene suddenly rembered the snacks he had specifically bought, hurried into the kitchen, and took out all the snacks from the bag, handing them to Victoria one by one.

"These are ginger candies, and lemon-flavored soda crackers, your favorite mango yogurt, and nuts. The doctor said these can help with nausea."

Victoria looked at him nervously, "Why did you buy these? Do you already know?"

Eugene pressed his lips together bitterly, a hint of loss flashing in his eyes, "Know what?"

Victoria said nothing, watching him anxiously.

Eugene exhaled softly, forcing a reluctant smile, "Last ti I saw you vomiting, you probably have gastritis."

Victoria looked at the snacks in her hand.

Are these foods for gastritis patients?

Clearly, they were nausea-relieving snacks for pregnant won.

Had he already found out the truth and was just waiting for her to confess?

As she was lost in thought, Eugene’s phone rang.

She snapped back, watching him take out the phone and hang up directly.

Then he sent a voice ssage via WeChat, "Very busy, do not disturb."

After that, he turned off the phone and tossed it onto the sofa, gently rubbing her head, "Stay here in the living room and have so snacks, I’ll go make dinner."

He said this before turning into the kitchen.

Victoria touched her hair gently, watching Eugene’s back, wrapped in deep confusion.
