Chapter 531: Chapter 531: He Almost Left Them Behind
An Mo’s hand remained firmly wrapped around Rong Ye’s wrist, his grip unyielding, as though even the slightest looseness might allow the other man to slip away again...this ti beyond reach.
For a brief mont, An Mo said nothing. He simply looked at him.
But the silence was not calm. It was heavy, suffocating, filled with restrained anger.
Then his expression hardened completely.
"You..." His voice was low, but it carried a chilling sharpness. "You actually tried to do sothing like that?"
Rong Ye did not respond. His body still trembled faintly, his breathing uneven, his eyes empty and unfocused as if his mind had yet to return from that dark, suffocating place.
He looked like soone who had already stepped halfway into the abyss.
Seeing him like this, the coldness in An Mo’s eyes deepened.
"How could you even think about sothing like this?" he said, his tone turning harsher.
His fingers tightened around Rong Ye’s wrist, as if trying to force him to feel the weight of reality again. "Do you not care about your mate at all?"
The words landed heavily, like a slap across Rong Ye’s face.
"Do you still think you are alone in this world?" An Mo continued, his voice growing colder with each sentence.
"Do you think that if you die, there will be no one left to mourn you? Or do you think your death ans nothing to anyone?"
That final question struck sothing deep inside Rong Ye.
His struggling stopped.
His body froze where it was.
Slowly, almost stiffly, he lifted his head and looked at An Mo, his expression blank at first then gradually turning stunned, as if those words had pierced through the fog in his mind.
But An Mo did not give him ti to recover.
"You have a mate," he said firmly, his gaze locked onto Rong Ye’s. "You have already taken her responsibility. So be a man and take responsibility for her for your entire life."
Each word fell like a heavy weight, pressing down on Rong Ye’s chest, leaving him no room to escape.
"You should have thought about all of this before," An Mo continued coldly. "Not now."
Rong Ye’s lips trembled slightly. The strength in his fingers slowly drained away, his resistance fading, but his face grew paler with each passing second.
An Mo stepped closer, his presence overwhelming.
"And what if you have a child?"
The question ca suddenly, like a bolt of thunder splitting the sky.
Rong Ye’s entire body stiffened.
"Are you going to leave your female alone to raise your child?"
Silence fell instantly.
"Rong Ye," An Mo called his na slowly. "Wake up. Look clearly. You are not alone anymore. There are people behind you...people who depend on you."
His tone dropped even further, turning sharp and rciless.
"If you choose to die like this... then you are nothing but a coward running away from your responsibilities."
The word "coward" echoed loudly in Rong Ye’s mind, striking him harder than anything else.
His breathing grew erratic. His eyes trembled.
Coward...?
Was he really... a coward?
"And after you die?" An Mo continued, not giving him a chance to retreat. "What will happen to your mate?"
At that mont, Rong Ye’s mind shook violently.
Lanlan’s face appeared in his thoughts...bright, warm, full of life. Her smile, her laughter, the way she looked at him... All of it ca rushing back at once.
"How will she face your enemies?" An Mo’s voice pressed on. "How will she face your elder brother?"
Rong Ye’s expression stiffened, a cold chill running down his spine.
"What if your elder brother finds her?" An Mo said, his voice cold and steady. "What if he harms her? Then what will you do?"
He paused for only a fraction of a second before continuing.
"You will be dead. You won’t be able to protect her. You won’t be able to stop him. You won’t be able to do anything."
Each sentence struck like a hamr, smashing down relentlessly.
Rong Ye’s face slowly turned ashen. His body trembled uncontrollably, his lips parting as if he wanted to speak, but no words ca out.
"And your child?" An Mo’s voice softened slightly, but it carried even more weight now. "If you really have one... will you let your child grow up without a father?"
That single sentence shattered the last fragile barrier in Rong Ye’s heart.
His eyes widened, his pupils trembling violently.
A child...
His child...
Would grow up without him?
The image ford instantly in his mind...a small figure standing alone, looking around in confusion, calling for soone who would never answer.
Just emptiness.
Rong Ye’s entire body shuddered.
"No..." The word slipped out of his mouth, broken and weak.
His heart clenched so tightly it felt like it might tear apart.
All the despair, all the self-loathing that had filled him before...it was still there. But now, sothing else had been added to it.
Fear.
A deep, suffocating fear.
Fear of abandoning everything.
Fear of losing everything.
How could he...?
How could he have even thought of running away like that?
His shoulders began to shake violently, his head lowering as overwhelming sha flooded through him. His nails dug into his palms, as if punishing himself for his own thoughts.
"I..." His voice cracked, barely audible.
He couldn’t even finish his sentence. He had not thought about any of it.
Not Lanlan.
Not their possible child.
Not the responsibilities he carried.
He had only thought about escaping... about ending everything.
Was he really that cowardly?
The realization crushed him.
Yet, even as he understood it, the pain in his chest did not lessen. Instead, it grew heavier, more suffocating, because now he knew there was no easy way out.
Running away was not an option.
But staying ant facing everything, his weakness, his enemies, his failures.
His expression twisted painfully, guilt and sha mixing with despair.
"I... can’t..." he whispered hoarsely. "I can’t protect anything... I’m too weak..."
Tears fell silently from his eyes, one after another.
His body slowly gave in, slumping down as he knelt on the ground.
But this ti, he did not struggle. He did not try to hurt himself again.
He simply remained there...broken, lost, drowning in his own thoughts.
And in front of him, An Mo stood still, his expression unreadable, his gaze steady.
