Chapter 152: Chapter 152: How to Get Eaten 101: A Fox’s Guide

Rong Ye tilted his head and looked at Xuan Long with his provocative gaze before he said sweetly, "From so beast... in heat."

The cave went completely silent.

Han Jue froze mid-bite. Hu Yan almost dropped his at.

Both of them turned toward Rong Ye with identical expressions that scread: "You’re dead."

Even the stove stood awkwardly for a second as if it wanted no part in this situation.

Xuan Long’s expression darkened instantly; his face went so black it could have dripped ink. His jaw tightened, and his forked tongue flickered slightly against his teeth...a silent warning.

He slowly cald down his raging eyes and asked once again in a low voice, giving him a chance that maybe he heard it wrong. "What did you say?"

But Rong Ye just smiled wider, looking completely unbothered. "What?" he said innocently, pretending confusion. "I only ant it’s dangerous, right? So beasts lose control during their... you know... season."

His tail swished proudly.

Han Jue buried his face in his hands. Hu Yan muttered under his breath, "He’s really going to die today..."

Because everyone knew who Rong Ye was talking about.

Xuan Long.

The mighty serpent beastman who had been unusually quiet and tense these days. The air around him practically slled like danger and suppressed instinct. They were all beastn...they could sll it.

Only Su Qinglan, who was a female, had no idea.

She blinked, looking between them, confused. "What are you talking about?"

But no one answered her.

Even the stove, after finishing its al, decided life was more important than witnessing this. With a small snort, it shuffled away toward the entrance and left the cave silently.

anwhile, the tension inside could’ve snapped a spear in half.

Hu Yan and Han Jue quietly exchanged looks like soldiers preparing for war.

Rong Ye smirked, resting his chin on his hand. "Why so quiet? I didn’t say anything wrong. You don’t deny it?"

Xuan Long’s tail twitched once. Then his lips curved slightly in a calm and polite way. "I don’t need to explain myself to a fox who hides from hunting and talks too much."

Rong Ye’s ears flattened slightly, but instead of getting angry, his grin turned sharp. "Oh, really? Then maybe you should explain before your... condition gets worse."

Xuan Long raised an eyebrow. His deep voice dropped lower, quiet but icy. "Condition?"

Rong Ye’s tail flicked again, smug. "Yeah. You look pale. Maybe you’re sick. Should I tell Lan Lan? Shouldn’t you go and hide sowhere?"

Su Qinglan blinked again. "Sick? Who’s sick?"

Before Xuan Long could speak, Rong Ye turned dramatically toward her, his eyes full of fake worry. "Lan Lan, I think Xuan Long might be unwell. He’s been acting strange lately. Maybe he’s afraid he can’t have snake eggs anymore."

"PFFFT...!"

Hu Yan and Han Jue both lost it.

Hu Yan slamd a hand over his mouth to hold back laughter. Han Jue turned away completely, his shoulders shaking violently.

Su Qinglan’s eyes widened. "Snake eggs?" she repeated, completely lost. "Wait, what do you an..."

Xuan Long didn’t move. He didn’t speak. He just stared at Rong Ye with that terrifyingly calm expression...the kind of calm that made your spine itch because you knew what ca after wasn’t going to be calm at all.

Hu Yan and Han Jue both froze mid-laughter, realizing instantly that they had laughed at the wrong ti.

Rong Ye, however, still had that stupid grin on his face until Xuan Long’s tongue flicked once.

That was when the fox finally realized he had said sothing he absolutely shouldn’t have.

"...Ah," Rong Ye said quietly with an innocent expression. "So... maybe that joke went a little too far?"

No one answered.

Hu Yan started slowly inching toward the cave wall, as if maybe he could just... disappear into the stone. Han Jue looked ready to say he didn’t know this fox at all.

Su Qinglan blinked at them as many thoughts raced through her mind, but she really needed soone to confirm it.

Were these beastn making double-aning jokes now? Or was it true? She looked at Xuan Long but couldn’t find anything wrong with him.

Before she could ask anything, Rong Ye suddenly yelped and darted behind her like a terrified cub. "Lan Lan! Protect ! He’s going to eat

alive!"

Su Qinglan blinked again, totally lost. "First... explain to ..."

Then a shadow lood behind them.

Xuan Long rose to his full height, eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. His tail moved once in a smooth, silent, and absolutely deadly motion.

Rong Ye squeaked.

"W–Wait, let’s talk about this! You’re calm, right? You’re calm! Calm is good!"

The serpent didn’t answer.

Instead, he simply tilted his head slightly, that polite, cold smile still fixed on his face. And then...whoosh! his tail shot out like lightning, wrapping around Rong Ye’s fluffy tail and yanking hard.

"Wha... HEY!" Rong Ye shrieked as he was dragged across the floor, kicking and clawing uselessly at the ground. "Let

go! My tail! You’re stretching my tail!"

Su Qinglan gasped, half reaching toward him, but then stopped when Xuan Long turned his head and looked at her.

That look was calm and dangerous.

"Lan Lan," Xuan Long said smoothly, as if he weren’t currently dragging a screaming fox across the cave floor. "Soone here seems to be sick. Please wait for . I’ll co back after treating him."

"Treating...?! WHO WANTS TREATNT FROM YOU?!" Rong Ye howled, flailing harder. "I’M NOT SICK! I’M PERFECTLY HEALTHY! LAN LAN, SAY SOTHING!"

Su Qinglan hesitated, her mouth opening... then closing again when she saw Xuan Long’s serious face. Almost without realizing it, she let go of Rong Ye’s hand.

Rong Ye’s eyes went wide.

"LAN LAN! You betray !" he cried dramatically, reaching for her one last ti before being yanked away by the tail.

Hu Yan and Han Jue stood there silently. They didn’t even move a muscle to help him, only watching as the fox disappeared out of the cave entrance, his voice echoing through the entrance like a ghost’s wail.

"LAN LAAAAN...! I SWEAR I’LL CO BACK FOR REVEEENG... AAAH!"

And then there was silence.

Only the wind outside howled softly, and the three remaining inside the cave stood frozen.

Han Jue coughed into his fist. "...So," he said carefully, "should we... help him?"

Hu Yan shook his head very fast. "Nope. I like being alive."

Su Qinglan still stared at the cave entrance, utterly lost. "What... just happened?"

Hu Yan sighed. "A fox tried to play with a snake."

Han Jue added quietly, "And got bit."

Outside, faintly, there was another muffled scream.

Hu Yan winced. "...Bit hard."
