Chapter 35: Chapter 27 The Invisible Tenant 5

Chen Xiao hesitated for a mont, wondering how such an eye-catching style of drawing didn’t match the seemingly refreshing smile. The eerie atmosphere of the room and the big eyes staring at him made it difficult to know where to start. To outright ask “Are you human?” would seem impolite, and what if she got angry and threw a liver, gallbladder, spleen, lung, or kidney at him?

But thoughts aside, Chen Xiao still made an effort not to let the conversation lapse. After much consideration, he offered a very conventional, practical, and polite greeting.

“Hello! My na is Chen Xiao.”

The girl shifted her position and continued to sketch rapidly on the paper while watching him. Chen Xiao glanced over and noticed a large stack of thick paper cluttered with an assortnt of Arrays on the desk.

“Hello, I’m not really accustod to using nas—you can call

Angel.”

“Oh, delighted to et you!” Chen Xiao chuckled and nodded, but his heart was roaring: “What is all this about, Angel? Even if there really were angels, this person’s appearance doesn’t fit the image of an angel at all.”

The “Angel” looked at Chen Xiao, scratching her cheek with her idle hand as if troubled, “Ah, I know I don’t look much like an Angel right now, and I’m not sure how long this body will last, but… please, don’t mind it.”

While saying this, the “Angel” appeared completely engaged in talking to Chen Xiao, but her hand holding the pen continued to draw on the paper at a disconcertingly rapid pace.

Chen Xiao maintained his smile and responded, “Oh, I see.”

As he spoke, he thought, “How am I not supposed to mind, especially after you ntioned ‘this body’? I can’t help but mind now… And why does it sound like you can read my thoughts?”

The “Angel” nodded, “Mhm, but I can only see a little. If the thoughts are too complex, it consus a lot of energy.”

A mont of silence.

Upon hearing the words “consus a lot of energy,” Chen Xiao’s first impulse was whether he should recall:

The few bites of food he had eaten, the texture of the food, the number of chews before swallowing, and feigning sentintality about the journey of the grains from growth to harvest for human consumption; recollecting all the numbers seen that morning, their destinations, finding commonalities, then arranging and multiplying them in a specific sequence to sort them into an eleven-digit phone number; or perhaps analyzing the attire and social interactions of the people on the street and deducing their next likely destinations based on their facial expressions and apparent inner states—provide all these thoughts to the “Angel” to see if it could overload her mind.

But! Chen Xiao didn’t do so, knowing that if the other party really had the ability to “read minds,” then remaining silent and thinking less was the best approach, as revealing more thoughts without understanding the situation would only expose more. Thus, the aforentioned ideas rely flashed through his mind.

“How long have you been here?” Chen Xiao asked silently in his heart!

The girl frowned, “I can’t rember, but it must have been a long ti.”

Chen Xiao gradually dropped his smile, and his expression turned grave, even colder than when he faced Mr. Zhou’s decision to execute him, a matter of life and death.

The mind is the most secretive place for a person, as it is a territory beyond others’ reach and Chen Xiao’s biggest support when facing danger. So, the presence of soone with the ability to “read minds” was highly dangerous, whether they were friendly or not.

Seeing Chen Xiao fall silent, the “Angel” suddenly seed at a loss, clearly aware of Chen Xiao’s thoughts.

“Ah… I’m sorry, it’s a bad habit, but I can try to control it.”

Chen Xiao continued to stare at her expressionlessly, as if to say, joking aside, how could he trust her when she says she can control it under these circumstances.

Firstly, it was easy to surmise that this cabin was a closed, independent space. The girl claiming to be an “Angel” seed to be confined here, and she was diligently studying sothing similar to an Array in an attempt to escape. Only, she hadn’t fully succeeded yet.

So, what exactly was the “Angel” she spoke of? Was it an angel from religious stories, or sothing else entirely? If she really was an “Angel,” why was she imprisoned here? Since she had the power to bring Chen Xiao in, why couldn’t she leave herself? Although this place, much like a “cabin,” seed simple, it was obviously not built casually. So, what created this “prison,” why imprison the “Angel,” and most importantly… why did she bring

here, and what does she intend to do with ?

Chen Xiao had many questions. Usually, he would start by gathering information and then analyzing it, but at this mont, he didn’t. Instead, he even abandoned any superfluous thoughts, entering a mode of thought where he received information without processing it, similar to being “daydreaming.”

Since she could understand human thoughts, there was no point for Chen Xiao to continue hiding anything.
