Zhu Jianian’s remarks spread like a virus, quickly fernting across the internet.

Gu Moqian pulled strings to suppress the reports by force, but the matter still beca a nationwide topic. Public opinion is not sothing that can be easily silenced.

Ji Wei remained calm upon seeing the news.

Zhu Jianian was making a desperate, last-ditch effort.

Such slander and defamation did not bother her in the slightest, but one thing she could never tolerate—Zhu Jianian cursing the child in her womb!

Before Ji Wei could leave the house, Nan Huiru arrived first.

"Where are you going? Reporters are swarming the front gate. What if they shove you and hurt the child?" Nan Huiru’s tone carried traces of sternness.

Ji Wei glanced at Nan Huiru’s cold, austere face without responding.

Had she co to demand answers after seeing the news reports?

Nan Huiru walked over and sat down on the couch. "Co here, I have so questions for you."

"If you have sothing to say, you can say it." Ji Wei remained standing where she was, her tone respectful yet unwavering.

From the mont Nan Huiru stepped into the house, Ji Wei noticed the simring anger in her deanor. After Nan Huiru had left Shanshui Manor with Shen Yu that night, she hadn’t returned since.

Nan Huiru’s displeasure was evident on her face. She spoke in a low voice: "Regarding the child, I know you deeply resent Zhu Jianian. But no matter how wrong she was, she’s already been imprisoned, her future destroyed. Isn’t that punishnt enough?"

"I thought you were at least magnanimous, but I didn’t expect you to want her dead!"

Although Nan Huiru was angry that Zhu Jianian had caused the death of one of her grandsons, she never intended to destroy the Zhu Family completely. Decades of ties couldn’t be brushed aside so easily.

But now, the Zhu Family had completely collapsed, Zhu Jianian had attempted suicide, and Shen Yu cried tirelessly every day...

All of this weighed heavily on Nan Huiru’s heart.

Ji Wei listened quietly and imdiately realized that Nan Huiru fully believed the rumors circulating online.

It was likely that Shen Yu had been stoking the flas beside her.

Since Nan Huiru had already made up her mind, anything Ji Wei said would be futile.

"Mom, I won’t argue against the online reports. I will take legal action to clear my na. I did not do what they’re accusing of, and I won’t take the bla!"

Ji Wei’s expression was resolute, her tone firm and upright, leaving Nan Huiru montarily stunned.

After a brief pause, Nan Huiru sighed and said, "No matter what happens, the relationship between the Zhu Family and the Gu Family spans decades. It’s heartbreaking to see our families co to this."

"Mom, no one forced them to reach this point. The consequences they face are the seeds they sowed themselves." Ji Wei’s gaze turned cold as she spoke.

Nan Huiru: "..."

The living room suddenly descended into silence.

After a while, Nan Huiru slowly stood up and walked toward the door. Upon reaching the entrance, she suddenly turned back and reminded, "Don’t go out for the next couple of days. I’m leaving now."

Ji Wei’s expression shifted slightly. "Mom, take care."

Nan Huiru avoided the main entrance and left through the side door.

That evening.

After bathing, Ji Wei retrieved a fresh pair of pajamas from the walk-in closet for Gu Moqian, helping him put them on.

"Don’t pay attention to the rumors online; I’ll handle it," Gu Moqian said softly, watching as the woman tied the belt of his pajamas.

"Don’t worry. I won’t let myself get upset over it."

Ji Wei looked up and smiled faintly at him. "But you, the rapid spread of this incident must make handling it very tricky for you."

Gu Moqian held her soft hands, gently rubbing them as he gazed into her bright eyes. "I’ll be fine. I’m a man. Protecting you and the baby is my responsibility."

Ji Wei leaned against his chest naturally. "Moqian, marrying you makes feel like the happiest woman in the world. No matter what rumors circulate outside, they can’t hurt . Because the person who makes happy is you, not those rumors."

Gu Moqian listened quietly, his hand slowly moving up to stroke her back.

In his heart, he vowed that such an extraordinary woman deserved his utmost protection, ensuring that no harm would co to her.
