The shadowy figure, seeing his attack had failed, had a flash of ferocity in his eyes, and once again gathered his strength to lunge at Ji Wei. However, Gu Moqian had already anticipated this. Quick as a flash, he delivered a swift kick straight to the man’s chest.
The shadowy figure staggered back a few steps and fell clumsily to the ground.
"Are you alright?"
Gu Moqian carefully checked Ji Wei’s body for any traces of sulfuric acid, only relaxing slightly after confirming she was unhard.
"I... I’m fine..."
Ji Wei’s face was pale, her heart still racing with fear.
If Gu Moqian had been just a second later, the acid would have splashed all over her face.
"Ahhhhhh..."
The shadowy figure on the ground let out a series of blood-curdling screams, writhing in unbearable pain. When she fell, the glass bottle in her hand shattered, and the sulfuric acid splashed all over her own body.
The building’s security guards ca running at the sound, quickly subduing the shadowy figure. One of the guards pulled off her mask and hat, revealing her disguise.
"No, don’t!"
Realizing her identity was exposed, the woman scread in horror.
Ji Wei saw the sulfuric acid soak through the mask, corroding half of the woman’s face until it was a ss of blood and tissue.
Even so, she still recognized the woman before her.
It was Tang Yi!
When Gu Moqian saw the true face of the attacker, the deep gaze in his eyes grew increasingly frigid and severe.
"Are the two of you alright?" A security guard approached with a concerned question.
Ji Wei shook her head.
"That’s good to hear. We’ll hand this lunatic over to the police. Please rest assured," the guard said again.
Tang Yi was dragged into a nearby vehicle by two guards. As she was being taken away, she kept looking back in defiance, shouting, "I won’t let you go! You ruined everything I planned, left with no way out, and now you’ve disfigured ! I will make you pay for this, pay for this!"
Gu Moqian listened to the woman’s crazed ranting, his expression growing colder and more distant by the second.
Wasn’t living peacefully an option? Tang Yi was determined to destroy herself.
Pay the price?
Hmph, this lunatic woman wouldn’t be getting another chance to commit such heinous acts.
"Let’s go."
Gu Moqian escorted Ji Wei into the car, then got in himself.
The car started and soon vanished into the night.
As soon as they were inside, Ji Wei anxiously reached out to remove Gu Moqian’s trench coat, worry evident in her eyes. "Let see quickly—did you get hit with any acid?"
Gu Moqian looked at her with a teasing expression. "You’re this eager to undress your husband?"
"Is this the ti for jokes? Do you know how worried I was?" Ji Wei lightly punched his chest in frustration, her face showing a mix of anger and concern.
If the angle had been just slightly off, the acid would have splashed on Gu Moqian’s hands.
Thinking of Tang Yi’s corroded half-face, Ji Wei couldn’t help but get goosebumps all over.
Seeing that she was genuinely upset, Gu Moqian quickly dropped the playful deanor and cooperated obediently as she removed his coat.
Ji Wei examined the trench coat inside-out, finding a burned patch on the back where the acid had corroded it. The coat was completely ruined.
Not only that, but even the white sweater underneath showed signs of scorching. Fortunately, because Gu Moqian had several layers on, his skin was unhard.
Recalling the mont when Gu Moqian had thrown himself forward without hesitation, Ji Wei’s eyes instantly reddened.
"Mo Qian, are you an idiot? That was so dangerous, and you still jumped in to protect ," Ji Wei suddenly hugged Gu Moqian’s neck tightly, pressing her face against his shoulder, her nose stinging with the urge to cry.
"Easy there, are you trying to strangle your poor husband?" Gu Moqian didn’t want Ji Wei to be upset, so he made a lighthearted comnt, though his eyes were brimming with tenderness.
"No! I won’t let go of you, not even for a second!" Ji Wei’s heart was filled to bursting, her throat tightening, and her voice ca out choked with emotion.
"You call an idiot, but you’re the little fool here—adorably foolish."
Gu Moqian gently patted her back, tilted his forehead to rest against hers, and spoke in a soft, loving tone.
