Ye Cheng hesitated whether to answer the call, but Xia Duoduo spoke first: "Take the call, I’ll sit on the sofa for a while."

She saw Ye Cheng hesitate for a few seconds before suddenly stepping outside the door to press the answer button.

Xia Duoduo felt bewildered. Why did answering a call need to be so secretive?

Sothing’s fishy!

She quietly got up from the sofa, leaning on her crutches as she made her way toward the door.

"What is it?" Ye Cheng’s voice was indifferent.

"There is sothing," a woman’s coquettish voice ca from the other end, "Does missing you count as sothing important?"

"..."

"A Cheng, I really miss you," Zii sighed. Her tone held a hint of sadness.

Ye Cheng’s brows furrowed, his voice turning a bit stern: "You’ve been drinking."

"Mm-hmm. I can’t help it. If I don’t drink, I can’t sleep at all—it’s been like this for three years. A Cheng, my head is spinning badly. What should I do?"

Three years...

Was she determined to drown herself in alcohol?

Ye Cheng’s brows knitted tighter. "If you’re drunk, then go to sleep."

"But I miss you—miss you so much. A Cheng, could you co over? You’re my sleeping pill. Just seeing you would put at ease and let sleep."

In the quiet of the night, the woman’s delicate and vulnerable voice was like a drum pounding on the man’s heart.

After a long silence, Ye Cheng replied, "Sorry, I can’t."

Once, this woman had hurt him so deeply it left him devastated. Now she was suddenly trying to turn back and woo him with sweet words—but he couldn’t accept it.

He had his pride and dignity. So things, once lost, were gone for good.

It’s cruel, but it’s reality.

"A Cheng, I feel so terrible..." Zii’s voice ca again, sounding genuinely distressed rather than feigned. "I just want to see you. You don’t have to co—I’ll go to you instead, okay? Just tell your address, I can leave right away—"

How could she go out when she’s drunk!

"Stop this nonsense!" Ye Cheng’s tone turned sharp abruptly. "Zii, you’re being unreasonable, do you know that?"

She had broken the boundaries they’d maintained for three years and stirred up his emotions.

When Xia Duoduo heard Zii’s na, her mind went blank, and the crutch in her hand fell to the ground with a clatter.

The noise startled Ye Cheng. He turned around only to see Xia Duoduo’s panicked figure as she turned and tried to leave.

She hobbled on one foot, supporting herself against the wall. Perhaps in her flustered state, she didn’t notice and banged her head against the cabinet.

So painful!

Xia Duoduo clutched her forehead, wincing in pain, tears welling up in her eyes.

She didn’t even know if it was because of the pain or sothing else.

"I have sothing to do. Hanging up now."

Ye Cheng ended the call and strode toward Xia Duoduo.

Seeing her tear-filled eyes, his expression carried a faint trace of anger. "Can you be any clumsier?"

She even managed to hurt herself just walking.

"Yes, I’m clumsy—clumsy and stupid!" Xia Duoduo didn’t know where the surge of anger in her ca from. She reached out and pushed Ye Cheng hard. "Go away! I don’t want you taking care of anymore!"

She wiped her tears with her hand, hopping furiously toward the bedroom.

Ye Cheng watched as she limped her way into the bedroom, then slamd the door shut with a bang.

His phoenix eyes were slightly startled, and he felt a faint headache.

She was the one eavesdropping on the call, yet she righteously got angry with him. He truly didn’t understand.

Standing there for a while, Ye Cheng finally bent down to pick up the crutch and placed it by Xia Duoduo’s bedroom door.

"Get so rest early. I’m leaving."

He said this while looking at the tightly closed door in front of him.

Just one door apart, Xia Duoduo leaned against the wooden panel. Hearing Ye Cheng’s footsteps getting farther away, her tears flowed uncontrollably.

She had tried her best to get closer to him, yet the distance between them only grew wider.

Xia Duoduo had never felt so despondent before. Her chest ached unbearably.

Why was it so hard to love soone?
