Arriving at the project site.

Ling Ling had just finished a eting and walked out, only to see Ji Wei.

To make commuting easier, she had been staying in the apartnt at the project site recently. Yesterday, Ji Wei had returned and only spoken to her on the phone; the two hadn’t t face-to-face yet.

Seeing Ji Wei, Ling Ling was delighted. After chatting briefly, they headed to the cafeteria together.

It was currently lunchti rush hour, and the cafeteria was filled with employees lining up to get their als. Seeing the long-absent Director Ji suddenly show up, everyone froze for a mont and quickly made way for her to get her food first.

Ji Wei graciously declined their kindness.

She had co to the cafeteria for the sake of convenience, not to seek special treatnt.

Ji Wei automatically stood at the back of the line, occasionally whispering a few words to Ling Ling. Ever since graduating college, she hadn’t eaten in a cafeteria, and she found this experience surprisingly novel.

"Wow, today’s lunch is so extravagant! There’s abalone and crab! I’ve heard they were flown in just recently."

"Yeah, usually it’s only four dishes and one soup, but today there are suddenly four extra dishes, and all of them are at!"

"Could it be the chef got a raise and decided to treat us?"

"Are you kidding? How much could the chef’s salary be? Just buying abalone would chew through it."

"Then what’s the reason..."

Two female employees passed by Ji Wei while having this discussion, nodding at her in greeting. Suddenly, inspiration struck them!

It must be because Director Ji ca to eat in the cafeteria!

That’s definitely it!

When Ji Wei’s turn ca to get her al, she was also dazzled by the spread of "eight dishes and one soup" in front of her. Especially as there was crab, her favorite, prepared in three different styles: fried, stead, and stir-fried with garlic.

It felt almost tailor-made for her.

Ji Wei took one of each, carrying her fully loaded tray to find a seat. She remarked with so feeling, "If I’d known the cafeteria lunches were this rich, I would have started eating here ages ago."

Ji Wei couldn’t help but regret it deeply.

Ling Ling, seated across from her, was equally astonished by the lavishness of today’s al. "I’ve been eating here for nearly a week, and the als have never been this extravagant until today."

"Really?" Ji Wei looked surprised.

Could it be that she just happened to get lucky and stumbled upon a day when the cafeteria food improved?

Without overthinking it, she polished off her lunch at lightning speed.

Since Ling Ling had plenty of work matters to report to her after she’d just returned, Ji Wei headed straight back to the office after leaving the cafeteria.

After listening to Ling Ling’s update about the progress of the Shuiyun Lane renovation project, Ji Wei dove headlong into the mountain of docunts awaiting her personal review and signature.

She had no idea how much ti had passed, but eventually, the pile of paperwork was nearly done. Ji Wei stood up, stretching her aching neck.

She glanced out the window and realized it was nearly dark.

Fishing out her phone, she noticed several missed calls — all from Gu Moqian.

She hurried to call him back.

"Honey, I’m sorry. My phone was on silent, so I missed your calls."

Gu Moqian knew this would be the case.

Recovering from an injury at ho, he was already bored out of his mind. anwhile, his little wife was fully absorbed in her work at the office, even daring to put her phone on silent.

The more he thought about it, the worse he felt. Did his existence an less than her work?

"I told you to co ho early. It’s already past eight now, and you broke your promise. Sort it out yourself."

With that, the call abruptly ended.

Ji Wei stared at her phone’s dimd screen, her mind briefly blanking out.

What kind of situation was this?

Wasn’t it usually won hanging up on n? Now the tables had turned.

Ji Wei clutched her phone, standing there for quite a while before realizing—Gu Moqian was angry with her!

She didn’t dare waste any more ti. Quickly grabbing her bag from the desk, she rushed out of the office.
