Ji Wei looked at him for a long while before murmuring, "Everything was fine, so why did she resign?"

"The letter says there’s sothing urgent back in her hotown, and she must return."

Gu Moqian folded the letter and stuffed it directly into his pocket.

"Sister in law Zhang has been here for so long. Without her, it really feels a bit strange. Just last night, I was telling her she should teach to cook more often."

Ji Wei walked over, pulled out a dining chair, and sat down. Exhausted from being thoroughly worn out by Gu Moqian this morning, she was also so hungry her stomach felt glued to her back. She grabbed a sandwich and took a big bite. "Sister in law Zhang’s cooking is impeccable; this sandwich is absolutely delicious."

"If you want to eat it every day, that’s not a problem." Gu Moqian also ca over and sat beside her. "I’ll have Chen Ke find the best five-star hotel chef later. The flavors they create will be even better than this."

Ji Wei took a sip of the milk nearby and said, "There’s no need for that. We usually just eat hostyle dishes. Asking a five-star chef to cater to us would be such a waste. Besides, I’ve gotten used to Sister in law Zhang’s cooking. Her sudden departure feels like a bit of a pity."

Gu Moqian stiffened slightly in the middle of eating.

It only took Ji Wei a short while to get used to it. And him? Except for the years studying abroad, he’d been eating Sister in law Zhang’s cooking for almost six years.

"Hmm." He humd lightly and suppressed the flicker of emotion in his eyes, lowering his head to focus on his al.

The real reason for Sister in law Zhang’s departure was sothing he was well aware of.

Having worked at Shanshui Manor for nearly ten years, she was an old hand. Of course, he knew there wasn’t anyone left in Aunt Zhang’s so-called hotown. Her excuse was clearly made up on the spot.

Sister in law Zhang likely knew that her deeds were about to be exposed, so she ran off in such a hurry.

So people, when their loyalty does not lie with him, aren’t worth keeping around.

"Mo Qian, today’s Saturday. Do you have any plans?"

Noticing that the atmosphere had suddenly grown somber, Ji Wei casually brought up a new topic.

Gu Moqian paused mid-bite, raised his eyes to look at her, and spoke slowly, "I’ll call your friend later to see if she’s free. Ye Cheng agreed to give her a chance."

"Really?"

At first, Ji Wei thought she had misheard. But when she saw the faint smile in Gu Moqian’s eyes, she quickly swallowed the bite of sandwich in her mouth and jumped to her feet in excitent. "That’s fantastic! I’ll call Duoduo right away!"

If Duoduo found out that the top-tier agent Ye Cheng was willing to take her on as an artist, she’d probably laugh herself awake dreaming. All her recent gloom would vanish in an instant!

Seeing how the little woman couldn’t wait even a mont to grab her phone, Gu Moqian’s lips curled into a faint smile, his gaze filled with tenderness and indulgence.

Ji Wei and Xia Duoduo arranged to et in front of the Xingyao Entertainnt Building. After finishing breakfast, she went upstairs to change into sothing more suitable for going out. "Clack clack clack," she descended the stairs and went to the entrance to put on her shoes.

Just as she finished putting them on and looked up, Ji Wei saw Gu Moqian approaching.

"I’ll give you a ride."

Ji Wei was taken aback. "Weren’t you just in the study? Don’t you need to deal with work?"

"Work isn’t as important as you."

Gu Moqian reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Looking at the flush on her face, his smile was gentle like the breeze.

Ji Wei stared at the man’s impossibly handso face, montarily dazed, before she took the initiative to hook her arm around his. Looking up at Gu Moqian with a bright, flower-like smile, she cheerfully said, "Thanks, hubby!"

"Hmm, a kiss first."

Gu Moqian casually pointed a finger to his left cheek.

Ji Wei almost burst into laughter at his attitude.

Holding in her laughter, she stood on her tiptoes and gave his chiseled, clean-shaven cheek a firm kiss.

A peach-colored lip print was left on the man’s face.
