Cory Hughes sneered, “That’s not a loan! You invested three hundred million dollars, and over the years, the Gaile family has taken advantage of the Hughes family’s power and gained many benefits, which already offset that three hundred million. Now you co to for money? Why should I give it to you? What’s the value of your Gaile family to us?”
Simon Gaile looked up in disbelief, staring at Cory Hughes, his fingers trembling violently, “You…”
Mr. Gaile’s face darkened, “Grandfather, let it go. They just don’t want to help us, there’s no use begging. Let’s write off those three hundred million dollars and our families will have no further contact!”
Cory Hughes was not bothered by Mr. Gaile’s mockery at all, “Deal! We’ll act like we don’t know each other and never have any contact again! The Gaile family is not worthy of our Hughes family anymore; Mr. Gaile, please leave!”
Simon Gaile rembered sothing and cried out in frustration, “Cory Hughes, don’t forget we have a marriage arrangent between our two families!”
In fact, Simon Gaile knew that his grandson had always been fond of Miss Hughes, and she was well aware of the marriage arrangent between their families. The two got along very well, waiting to hold a wedding once they were both of age. But now that the Hughes family and the Gaile family were breaking ties, what would beco of the marriage arrangent?
Little did he know, as soon as he said this, Cory Hughes burst into mad laughter, thinking Simon Gaile was too naive; given the current state of their families, how could the marriage arrangent possibly stand?
At this mont, eighteen-year-old Zora Hughes slowly walked out of the villa, wearing a white long dress, looking innocent and sweet. Nevertheless, there was disgust in her eyes. She spoke resentfully, “Mr. Gaile, now that the Gaile family has gone bankrupt, do you still think you are worthy of ? Let’s part on good terms and not make it too embarrassing!”
“The initial marriage arrangent was put in place due to the Gaile family’s support for the Hughes family. Now that the Gaile family has no value to us, the arrangent is naturally abolished. Besides, a marriage arrangent has no legal effect anyway. If I don’t want to marry you, who can force ?”
As Zora’s words fell, the video ended. The crowd turned their eyes to Zora. The video was evidence enough that she had known about her engagent to Mr. Gaile all along.
Before anyone could speak out against her, the scene on the big screen shifted to the school. Mr. Gaile, unable to contain his anger, went to confront Zora at school. At the ti, Zora was still in high school and had already amassed many admirers. Without her even saying a word, many people stood up for her.
Mr. Gaile: ‘Zora, we have an engagent! You once said you would marry when we grew up. Now you deny it?’
Zora with tears in her eyes: ‘That was just a childhood joke; I didn’t even know what it ans to get married. I have already made my intentions clear as we grew up, Mr. Gaile; why do you have to push so hard?’
Mr. Gaile: ‘Nonsense! Your family, the Hughes, has taken our betrothal gifts, which ans you already agreed to the marriage. Moreover, I have given you a lot of jewelry and clothes; if you don’t like , why would you accept these gifts?’
Seeing Mr. Gaile’s agitated appearance, Zora took a frightened step back, her eyes full of innocence. As soon as she shed tears, her admirers furiously rushed up and cursed at Mr. Gaile, “Take a look at yourself – you think you’re worthy of marrying Zora? If it weren’t for your Gaile family’s money, Zora wouldn’t even bother with you! It’s an honor for you that Zora accepts your gifts!”
‘Your Gaile family can’t even manage itself properly and goes bankrupt in the end. Who the hell do you think you are to bother Zora?’
As everyone cursed at Mr. Gaile, Zora hid behind them, crying. Pretending to wipe her tears, her crying only angered her admirers more. They beat Mr. Gaile rcilessly, yet Zora just stood there, watching quietly, not saying a word.
At that ti, there were rumors in school that Mr. Gaile was pestering Zora and got beaten up for it. Still, no one knew the Gaile family’s goodwill towards the Hughes family, nor was it known that the original marriage arrangent was sought by Cory himself. The Hughes family showed no gratitude to the Gaile family and instead repaid kindness with hatred, destroying Mr. Gaile’s reputation and causing him physical pain.
There was silence in the banquet hall as the video ended. Everyone stared in horror – who could have believed that beneath Zora Hughes’ innocent facade was a devil lurking in her heart?
