Chapter 849: Chapter 849: Mrs. Mat Is Very Narcissistic
Xaviera turned around, as the man kept getting closer. Having no ti to evade, she was cornered in a narrow space. Slowly, she looked up into his deep, light brown eyes.
A aningful smile played at the corner of his mouth as he lowered his head, adoringly and tenderly, looking at her.
Xaviera’s heart trembled, a familiar feeling rushed to her mind. Her head lowered in a panic, but his hot breath couldn’t be ignored, touching her body.
Caleb squinted his eyes, an arm resting against the wall beside her, narrowing the distance between them. His voice was hoarse yet gentle, “Miss Alf?”
Xaviera’s breath almost ceased, her mind blank for a mont, “…Caleb?”
She stretched out her hand to separate their bodies, refusing his approach. His eyes lowered, and he humd softly, teasing in his tone, “Not many people dare to call by my first na. It’s strange of you to be so bold upon our first eting, Miss Alf. Do we know each other?”
...
Her hands felt burning hot on Caleb’s chest, so she quickly pulled them away. Xaviera’s breath beca rapid—had Caleb figured out her identity?
At that mont, a picture of a precious sapphire necklace appeared on the screen in the banquet hall.
Caleb asked, at his leisure, “Miss Alf, do you like that necklace?”
Xaviera knew about the necklace; Caleb ca to the charity event to get it.
Feeling Caleb’s gaze burning upon her face, she couldn’t help but suspect that he already uncovered her identity. Pretending to be calm, she replied, “It’s okay. Do you like it, Mr. Caleb Mat?”
“I like it very much. I plan to buy it for soone.” Caleb replied without hesitation.
Xaviera unconsciously inquired, “Who is it for?”
Upon finishing her sentence, she wished she could slap herself, but the question was already out. She could only wait quietly for Caleb’s answer.
He laughed lightly, a hint of mischief in his tone, “For my wife.”
As soon as his words fell, Sean Price, following the instructions, won the bid for the necklace and handed it to Caleb. Opening the luxurious velvet box, he examined it carefully before asking softly, “Do you know my wife, Miss Alf?”
Xaviera looked puzzled at him, then swallowed before smilingly replying, “I don’t know her, but I’ve heard of her. I heard that Mrs. Mat is a gentle and elegant talented woman!”
Maybe Caleb didn’t expect Xaviera to praise herself in this way, thus was stunned for a few seconds. Then he asked, “Miss Alf, from where did you hear these rumors?”
Xaviera: “…” Am I not a gentle, elegant, talented woman?
“Mrs. Mat must be a kind-hearted woman with a successful career and love life!”
Caleb shook his head and smiled lightly.
Xaviera was sowhat annoyed, frowning, “Just tell what kind of person she is!”
As soon as she finished, Caleb’s deep, husky voice lingered, “Mrs. Mat is a spoiled kitten, always doing naughty things behind my back. Whenever she is shy or angry, she fights with .”
At that, he cast a aningful glance at Xaviera.
Xaviera: “…” This scoundrel must have already recognized her and deliberately pretended not to know her!
Since he wanted to pretend, she would play along. She gritted her teeth, “So, Mrs. Mat is a lively and lovely girl!”
Caleb nodded, his gaze full of teasing, “Yes, and quite narcissistic.”
Xaviera held back her anger, sarcastically remarking, “The necklace is beautiful, but too cheap. How could it suit a lively, lovely, kind-hearted, elegant, and gentle girl like Mrs. Mat? Mr. Caleb Mat, if you want to give a gift, shouldn’t you give sothing more expensive?”
Caleb raised an eyebrow, “Would Miss Alf like to offer a suggestion?”
Jut then, a picture of an ancient violin appeared on the big screen. She pointed at it and asked, “What do you think of this Spex ancient violin, Mr. Caleb Mat?”
He glanced at the screen, knowing his wife could play the violin but not the ancient one. Was she genuinely interested in it, or just because it was more expensive?
However, Caleb never cared about money. If his wife liked it, it wouldn’t matter even if it were fifty tis more expensive.
“Okay.”
Sean quickly won the bid for the Spex ancient violin, and Caleb asked softly, “What do you think, Miss Alf?”
Xaviera remained silent. Although she knew Caleb didn’t care about the price of a necklace, she felt overwheld by the expense of the ancient violin. It was too extravagant of Caleb to buy it without a second thought.
