Xaviera grasped at Caleb’s sleeve, her face full of fear, “Caleb, please take away. I’m terrified every ti I see Madam Hughes. She even said she’d torture , venting all her hatred on . It’s horrifying!”
Cory Hughes turned around, his face full of anger, glaring ominously at Madam Hughes. If it wasn’t for this fool stirring things up, Xaviera wouldn’t be so resistant to staying at the Hughes’s.
Madam Hughes hung her head in silence, not daring to counter. As Cory Hughes turned his back to her, a smile crept onto his face, and he greeted cordially, “Sebastiane has indeed been too foolish. She always thought Xaviera ca here to make things difficult for her, and so, she made those comnts out of anger. They are not to be taken seriously. She was wrong about this, and I will have her apologize to Xaviera.”
“What if Xaviera is here to cause trouble? Does Madam Hughes have the right to be upset?” Caleb replied effortlessly, “Since she decided to be the other woman and break up soone else’s marriage, she should be prepared to be cursed at. Why the fear now when she dared to be the wrongdoer?”
Cory Hughes turned ashen, with Madam Hughes nearly hyperventilating from anger. No matter how powerful Caleb might be, he was still a junior; on what grounds was he bringing up the past in public!
“I rember Xaviera was invited by the Hughes family to attend the family banquet today, not sothing she actively sought. She didn’t co to cause trouble for Madam Hughes. My Xaviera is so busy, she wouldn’t have ti to bother irrelevant people. Madam Hughes seems to overestimate her importance in Xaviera’s heart.”
Caleb’s tone was indifferent. Not a single dirty word was spoken, but every sentence seed to suggest that Sebastiane was nothing more than dust in their eyes. Nobody wanted to cause her trouble, because she wasn’t worth it, and Xaviera didn’t care about her at all.
Cory Hughes’s face reddened. If they look down on Sebastiane, then what was he?
Just as Cory Hughes was drowning in anger, Caleb spoke slowly, “Sir Hughes, my wife is naturally delicate, and now she has been threatened and intimidated by Madam Hughes. Do you think an apology can make ands for the cri she committed?”
If apologizing can’t make ands, then what does he want?
Cory Hughes was so angry that his entire body trembled. Now seeing stars, he forcefully suppressed his anger and spoke shakily, “Mr. Caleb Mat, why don’t we ask Xaviera how she would like to handle this.”
Caleb glanced down and asked quietly, “Xaviera, what should we do?”
Xaviera, seeming weak, leaned into Caleb’s embrace, her head hanging down as she said faintly, “Caleb, everyone knows I have a kind heart. Grandfather is asking because he thought I am soft-hearted and won’t deal with Madam Hughes.”
“But I feel so wronged! You invited to the family banquet, and now you want to tie up and throw out in the suburbs, where there are few people. When I die, nobody would know. It’s so pitiful! I didn’t do anything, yet Madam Hughes wants to torture . Maybe every ti she sees , she’s reminded of her disgraceful past. It’s not my fault that she was the other woman. Why take it out on ! If I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have co to the Hughes’s!”
“Caleb, don’t bla grandfather, it has nothing to do with him. It’s my fault. If I hadn’t co, Madam Hughes would not have done such an impulsive thing,” she sobbed softly.
Steve Price: “… ” My wife acted more and more like she was frail. If he did not know his wife well, he would have been deceived.
Cory Hughes, already repressing his anger, felt furious upon hearing Xaviera’s words.
Caleb, empathizing with her plight, nodded slowly, “Since Madam Hughes doesn’t welco Mrs. Mat, we shall leave. We won’t visit again in the future to avoid annoying anyone. As for those who threaten Mrs. Mat, be careful.”
Sebastiane heard a buzz in her head. She, of course, detected the threat in Caleb’s words. She glared at Xaviera fiercely, this little bitch. She exaggerated things in front of Caleb, making her look like the villain. She hadn’t even laid a hand on her yet!
Glancing at Caleb’s cold eyes, she was instantly frightened, trembling all over, she pointed at Xaviera and shouted angrily, “Xaviera! Shut up! I didn’t threaten you, what are you afraid of?”
Upon hearing her roar, Xaviera chocked back a sob and quickly burrowed into Caleb’s arms, shaking in fear.
