Maya was upright even before the rain began. While sitting in the lonely chair in the middle of her room facing the window, it was easy to see the sky darken, and she got to her feet to get a closer look at the dark skies.

She approached the window and looked out, watching the children run around and their mothers yelling for them to get inside. Usually, she didn’t linger long as she worried soone might see her, but with the coming rain, no one looked in her direction.

She rested her elbows on the fra as she watched the commotion. A mother was scolding her young daughter and trying to get her into the house. Just as the girl dejectedly accepted her fate another child got out of their mother’s clutches and ran into the rain.

Maya chuckled as the young girl also ran into the rain, dancing around with the young boy while their mother shouted. This seed to encourage the others to jump into the rain that was steadily getting heavier, while their mothers called out from the front porch.

Maya was still chuckling when she stretched out her hand, feeling the cool drops on her fingertips. It wasn’t nearly enough; she wished she were like the children splashing around the puddles of water that ford from the rain.

It reminded her of her childhood, but it wasn’t only childhood—even into adulthood, she hadn’t been able to resist running around in the rain and would sneak out whenever she could.

She looked toward the door as the thought ford. She hadn’t thought much of it, and it was convenient to hide out here, but she had nothing to do.

She was moving before she even considered the consequences. With the rain, she doubted she could run into anyone, and she just wanted to feel the rain. She would be back before anyone noticed.

She fled out of her room, walking briskly but also as quietly as she could. When she got to the first floor, she ran into servants rushing about as they tried to take cover from the rain.

No one gave her more than a glance, and this gave her courage. Maya made her way down the stairway and noticed a part of the top rail had been snapped off. The balusters stood awkwardly without any cover.

Is this what Claude ant?

She didn’t have much ti to study or think about it as she briskly made her way toward the side exit—the one that led to the chapel. There was a bit of privacy in the corner between where the main house began and the temple started.

As she walked to the door, she could hear the soft pitter-patter of the raindrops on the ceiling, and excitent flooded her. She got to the side entrance, looked around, then unbolted the heavy door and slipped out.

She was smiling when she jumped down from the two steps that lifted the doorway and onto a puddle of water. Splashes of water and dirt got onto her skirt, but Maya didn’t care as she spun around.

The rain was heavy, each drop felt like tiny pellets as it hit her skin continuously—from the top of her head down her shoulders. She lifted her chin, closed her eyes, and opened her mouth.

When she opened her eyes, lightning flashed, and it was imdiately followed by a thunder that ripped through the sky. Maya grinned at the sky, it was a proper rainfall.

A light breeze ca with the rain, and Maya shivered a little. The cold was sothing she could handle. She never had a problem with the cold, and Alaina often called her a freak for it.

She pushed away the thoughts and spun once again, knowing she couldn’t stay out until the rain ended. She climbed up the steps, protected from the rain.

As soon as she stepped away from the rain, she already missed twirling under it but she couldn’t remain here.

She squeezed her dress as hard as she could, but she knew there was no way she could get all the water out. She bit the inside of her cheeks, realizing she hadn’t thought about this.

She would have to run really fast to not get too much water on the carpet as she made her way to her room. She took a deep breath and opened the side door, determined to clean whatever ss she made.

She rushed away from the side entrance toward the huge space before the stairs. The house was darker than when she first stepped out; with the rain falling, windows and curtains were closed.

Maya got to the stairway and was halfway up when she realized she wasn’t alone. She stopped abruptly and looked up to see Keenan looking down at her. She didn’t even notice his presence.

She gripped her dress, unable to take another step, and from the dripping sound she could hear, the wood was getting soaked. She wasn’t going to make the minimal ss she had hoped.

"Alpha Keenan," she mumbled, glad that she didn’t lose her footing. She bowed awkwardly, praying he could not hear the drip of water onto the wood.

He didn’t say anything for the longest ti; he just stared at her while she kept her gaze down.

"What are you doing?" He eventually asked.

Maya shuffled on her feet. She was clearly wet, dripping from head to toe. It was clear to see what she was doing. She wondered if she was going to be punished—or worse.

"M-my room," she mumbled. "I am sorry for the ss. It hasn’t rained in a while. I-I couldn’t help it."

Keenan’s eyes narrowed, and he started down the stairs. Maya’s heart fell to her stomach as she feared the worst, but he just went past her, lightly brushing her wet shoulder.

Her gaze followed him, unsure what had just happened. It was the most normal conversation they had ever had, and she wasn’t sure how to react to it.

She turned her gaze away and walked up the stairs, rushing to her room while the interaction replayed in her head.
