Chapter 272: Chapter 272 My Last Will and Testant
Lilith’s POV
After changing clothes, Leo drove
back. On the way, he suddenly pulled the car over.
When he turned to face , his eyes were full of remorse. "Lilith, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I didn’t protect you properly."
I stared out the window, avoiding eye contact. "Just take
to Oakridge Park. I need to pick up Clara."
"I need to talk to you. Can we chat a bit longer?"
"We have nothing to discuss."
Seeing my expressionless face and dead eyes, Leo actually looked pained. After all, I was the little sister he had doted on for years.
I had nearly been raped by Grant, and he felt responsible.
With a sigh, Leo tried to explain. "Don’t bla , Lilith.I was just worried because Brett still has feelings for you. I was afraid Vanessa would get hurt, so I rushed things. But you and Vanessa are both my sisters, and I want the best for both of you."
These words were the last thing I wanted to hear. They seed utterly hypocritical.
I opened the car door, preparing to get out. "Don’t trouble yourself driving
to Oakridge Park. I’m in a hurry to pick up my child. I’ll take a taxi."
"Lilith, I need one favor from you," Leo called after .
I paused to hear Leo’s desperate plea. "Please stay away from Brett. Don’t have any more contact with him. Stop pursuing him, okay? I’m begging you."
I released the door handle and looked up weakly. "When have I ever pursued Brett?"
"Aren’t you trying to make Brett feel sorry for you, hoping to rekindle your old relationship?" Leo’s brows furrowed, revealing his hostility. "You know very well that Brett is about to marry Vanessa. Why do you keep chasing after him?"
I almost laughed from the absurdity.
Yes, I had initially approached Brett about caring for Clara after I was gone. That was a desperate choice when I had nowhere else to turn.
But these recent encounters? Brett had been the one seeking
out.
Leo continued, "Also, Lilith, if you insist on marrying Grant rather than soone else, could you move the mating ceremony date up to before May?"
That way, once I had my mating ceremony with Grant, I wouldn’t interfere with Vanessa’s mating ceremony.
I felt like soone had punched
hard in the chest. "Leo, do you rember what Mom said to you before she died? Have you forgotten?"
When our mother Lily died, I had just been born. Leo was five years old, old enough to rember.
Our dying mother had held his small hand and made him promise.
"Little Leo, you only have one sister, Lilith. You must cherish her, give way to her, protect her. Never let her suffer even the slightest grievance."
The tiny boy had tearfully promised our mother. Before she took her last breath, he had sworn.
"Mom, if anyone dares to bully my sister, I’ll fight them to the death."
I’d heard this story from my father and Alfred. I rembered it clearly.
He had failed
and my dead mother.
"You were the one who walked away from Brett. He’s Vanessa’s mate now, deal with it."
"Coming back to stir things up? That’s not just wrong,it’s cruel."
"What I’m doing isn’t wrong. Vanessa may be Dad and Lexi’s daughter, but she’s my sister too. You can’t bully her like this."
Again, I nearly laughed from the pain.
"Leo, from now on, you only have one sister,Vanessa."
Leo grew angry. "Lilith, you can’t be so unreasonable. You’re clearly the one who was wrong first..."
Fighting through my pain, I cut him off. "I’m literally dying, yet none of you believe . Instead, you keep pushing
toward a dead end. Do I actually need to die right in front of you before you’ll stop being so cruel?"
Leo responded with contempt.
"Lilith, the specialized werewolf anti-defect genetic drug at Aurora BioSciences is about to be successfully developed."
"Your frequent claims about having terminal illness and dying soon, nobody believes you."
"You can’t trick your way into getting the research secrets that two generations of our tow packs have worked on."
"Stop making things up."
Finally, Leo hardened his heart and said."Lilith, stop setting your sights on Brett, and stop trying to get your hands on our research secrets. Push any further, and I won’t hesitate to act. Family or not."
I asked painfully, "Do you want to drive
out of the city like Brett does?"
Leo’s expression turned harsh. "If you won’t listen to reason, then don’t expect rcy."
I knew then that I couldn’t win against them. There was nothing left to say.
Leo’s expression grew colder. "You can take a taxi ho."
Then he left
standing in the cold night street, driving away without looking back.
I pulled myself together, though grief churned in my chest like a storm.
I hailed a cab and rushed to Oakridge Park, where I picked up Clara from Sabrina’s place.
That night, after she fell asleep, I sat at her bedside for hours, staring at her small, peaceful face, morizing every detail.
A week later, the blood in my cough turned darker, heavier.
I had no more ti to waste.
I called Sabrina and asked her to help
find a trustworthy lawyer and a reliable trust fund manager.
The next day, she ca with
to the law firm.
I hadn’t touched a cent of the two million Brett gave , or the five million my mother left behind. I planned to dedicate it all to Clara.
"This is the plan," I said, my voice steady as Sabrina sat beside , her hand gently wrapped around mine.
"Four hundred thousand to purchase a 700-square-foot apartnt in a quiet, safe neighborhood. It will be transferred to Clara when she turns eighteen."
The lawyer began taking notes as I continued.
"One point two million will go into an education trust, everything from private preschool through college needs to be covered."
"I’ll act as the trustee," Sabrina said softly, her voice catching. "Cassian and I will make sure every dollar goes toward Clara’s future."
I looked at her, my chest swelling with gratitude.
"And two hundred fifty thousand will be given as a support grant to the family willing to adopt Clara."
"Lillie..." Sabrina squeezed my hand tighter. "If you don’t find the right family, you know Cassian and I will take care of her. As our own."
I nodded, my eyes blurring with tears.
"The remainder will stay invested. When Clara turns twenty-five, it all goes to her."
The lawyer, a woman around my age, adjusted her glasses.
"Ms. Hartwell, would you like to include anything else in the will?"
The pain surged again, nearly taking my voice with it.
Beside , Sabrina was already silently weeping.
"Yes," I finally said, my voice soft but unwavering.
"One last clause: Upon my death, under no circumstances are Brett Lancaster, Silas Hartwell, or Leo Hartwell to attend my funeral."
