Chapter 240: Chapter 240 Please Do A Lineage Test

Lilith’s POV

I thought when Brett heard I was dying, he’d at least seriously consider taking Clara. But he didn’t. All he gave

was cold, cutting mockery.

"Lilith, have you forgotten what you did to

five years ago? What tricks are you planning this ti? You’d even lie about having a terminal illness? Aren’t you afraid the Moon Goddess will curse you with a real one and take your life?"

Thea whimpered inside . Five years ago, I tried to explain everything. He wouldn’t listen then. Now, with my days numbered, explanations were still futile.

But his words cut deep, each one lethal. It took

a while to straighten my thin, frail fra.A surge of heat rose from my lungs as I fought back the urge to cough up blood.

"Alpha Brett, when Clara was still in my womb, I had no proof," I said softly. "But now, you can do a lineage test."

"I’m not asking you to love or cherish her, just to feed her, send her to school, let her live until she’s old enough to support herself."

"Alpha Brett, You can hate

all you want, but don’t punish her for being born. please, I beg you, just do one lineage test!"

My voice was barely a whisper, each word crushing what was left of my pride. But for Clara, I would give anything.

I could feel the blood drain from my face as I forced the box into his hand, my fingers trembling like leaves in a storm

"This is a lock of Clara’s hair."

He didn’t take the box imdiately, his eyebrows knotting in anger.

I stood there holding the box pathetically, afraid I’d missed sothing important, and continued, "Clara is five years old now. She was born two weeks after her due date."

"Our daughter’s nickna is Citra.Because, like you, she’s absolutely citrus-crazy. She never gets tired of the scent."

"Her full na is Clara Lancaster."

His handso but cold face twisted into a mocking smile. "Lilith, how dare your daughter use that na?"

I swallowed the lump in my throat and spoke with quiet resolve.

"I nad her Clara...because that’s what you wanted to na our daughter, rember? You said it ant brightness, like the clearest morning light."

My voice trembled now, but I pushed on.

"I held onto that dream, even when everything else fell apart. I thought... if she carried that na, maybe one day, she’d know she ca from love. From hope."

I looked up at him, eyes searching his face for sothing, anything that resembled the boy who once held

like I was his whole world.

"But you flinch at her na like it’s poison."

"She’s your daughter, Brett. I gave her the na you dread of. And now, you hate it. What am I supposed to tell her about that?"

I blinked back the tears burning at the corners of my eyes, forcing my voice not to crack.

"She was born in a prison cell, Brett. I gave birth alone, shunned by my pack and rejected by you. No healer, no clean sheets, just cold bed and pain."

I paused, letting the weight of my words settle between us.

"She got sick, again and again. There were no proper ds, no treatnt. She was so tiny, so fragile. And then one night, a fever nearly took her. It stole her ... ."hearing

"Enough!" His impatient growl cut

off, his Alpha authority making Thea cower inside .

I felt weak in body and spirit, the double blow of illness and emotions making it hard to stand.

"Alpha Brett, what would it take for you to agree to one lineage test?"

"Do you want

to kneel and beg?"

"If that’s what you need, I can..." Still holding the box, I started to sink to my knees.

My wolf Thea howled in protest at this humiliation inside , but I had no choice.

My desperate pleading didn’t give Brett any satisfaction. I could sense his wolf Jacob’s restless agitation.

He finally took the box, angrily cutting

off, "Enough! Don’t dirty my carpet. Your dignity ans nothing. I’ve taken the hair, now leave..."

Even though he had taken Clara’s hair, I still felt uncertain. I looked into his deep eyes, searching for any trace of genuine promise.

"If Alpha Brett would agree to do a lineage test with Clara, I would be forever grateful!"

"And please, before the test results co back, I beg you not to tell anyone else about what we discussed today."

"Please!" I pleaded softly.

With that, I bowed deeply and tactfully turned to leave. The hope for a lineage test was now in his hands; all I could do was wait.

At the study door, I nearly bumped into Vanessa, who stood there holding tea and snacks.

"Lillie, finished talking so soon? I was just bringing you so tea," she said softly.

"Don’t let

disturb you. I’m leaving now," I stepped aside, preparing to go.

I wanted no contact with Vanessa at all.

Years ago, I had been the only Alpha’s daughter of the Shadowpine Pack. My mother died giving birth to ,her only wish being that my father would raise

well and never let

suffer.

Despite his busy schedule, Father played both roles, doting on

endlessly. I was everything to him. Or at least, I thought I was.

But when I turned twenty-one, everything began to unravel.

For years, Vanessa’s mother had quietly planted doubts in his mind, saying it was strange that I didn’t have a wolf’s scent, that I seed distant from the bond most pups shared with their Alpha bloodline. She spoke with concern, not accusation, but the effect was the sa.

Eventually, she persuaded him to take action. She told him that maybe it wasn’t betrayal, just a mistake worth clarifying. Just one lineage test. Just to be sure.

And so he did it.

The results ca back: I wasn’t his biological daughter.

They said my mother had betrayed him. That I was never truly his.

I couldn’t believe it. How could I not be his child, after twenty-one years of being raised by him, loved by him, protected by him?

Then more truth surfaced.Vanessa’s mother was his true mate. And Vanessa, his real daughter, hidden away all this ti,returned to the Shadowpine Pack as the rightful heir.

And just like that, everything I had ever known, everything I had ever been, was gone.

Father said that although I wasn’t his biological child, he’d raised

for twenty-one years and couldn’t bear to let

go, so he wanted

to stay.

After twenty-one years of his care, I couldn’t bear to leave either. After staying, I beca even more cautious, believing that if I just knew my place and maintained boundaries, I could preserve this precious father-daughter relationship.

"Lillie, is it true? You’re really terminally ill?"

Vanessa’s voice was soft, almost trembling with emotion.

"If it is... I an, goddess, I’m devastated. I’m your sister. Hearing sothing like this just breaks ."

I said nothing. I didn’t want her sympathy.

She watched

in silence for a mont, then her tone shifted, still gentle but edged like a blade wrapped in silk.

"But I hope you’re not faking it, Lillie. Don’t think looking fragile gives you the right to sneak back into Aurora BioSciences."

"If you’re trying to gain sympathy just to get access to our confidential research again..." She gave a small smile."Well, as the current lead researcher, I wouldn’t allow it."

The Shadowpine Pack and the Blood Moon Pack jointly established Aurora BioSciences, a pharmaceutical company.

I had a natural talent for dicine and graduated top of my class from the Werewolf dical School. I joined the company as a research intern.

While Aurora BioSciences appeared to research human dications, it primarily developed treatnts specifically for werewolves.

Though werewolves have stronger healing abilities than humans, they’re more susceptible to certain genetic disorders that are harder to cure than human ailnts.

Five years ago, Brett and I were preparing for our mating ceremony. When I felt unwell and went to the hospital, the doctor told

I was pregnant. Before I could share the good news with Brett, I was accused of

Group’s research secrets to Finn of the Greystone Heights Pack. Then Brett was attacked and severely injured. All evidence pointed to , falsely claiming I was having an affair with Finn Blackwood.

Brett grew to hate . When my father sent

to the Alpha Council tribunal, Brett’s na was among the plaintiffs.

Those once closest to

joined forces to send

to prison.

Vanessa, who spent twenty-four hours caring for Brett in the hospital, naturally took my place...

Hearing Brett’s footsteps, Vanessa’s expression changed at once, her face taking on that nauseating look of kindness as she turned to .

"Nate, when did you return to Ravendale? You’re staying this ti, right? Brett and I are getting married, you must co to our mating ceremony," Vanessa said with false warmth.

I didn’t answer.Brett erged from the study and wrapped his arm around Vanessa’s waist.I painfully averted my gaze, feeling my illness intensify in that mont. Thea whimpered mournfully inside .

"I won’t disturb you both any longer. I’ll take my leave," I said softly, turning away from this place that was once warm but now felt so cold.
