"Norman, what are you doing?" I snapped, already pissed.
"Nothing. It’s just academy stuff. They need ," he muttered, avoiding my eyes.
"What do you an by that?" I pressed, watching him nonstop, blinking constantly.
"Kaye is catching up with our car. He’ll take over my place while I head back ho. There’s so stuff they need for," he explained, still not giving a full glance. That made feel so awkward.
"Norman, if there’s sothing I should know, you should tell right now," I hissed, turning in my seat to look at him, but he kept staring straight ahead.
"It’s sothing I need to deal with first. Please, can you trust ?" he finally said, eting my eyes.
Then the car stopped, and I knew Kaye’s car had pulled up in front of us.
"Please take care of yourself. I’ll et you soon." Norman held my hand and kissed the back of it before leaning down and kissing my lips passionately.
I was confused and lost. What was going on? Where did he have to go so urgently? But I didn’t ask. He asked to trust him. How could I question him now?
And with that, he was out of the car. Kaye got out of his and walked toward his brother. They hugged before Norman climbed into his car. Kaye ca over to , wearing a black leather jacket, and slid into the seat beside .
"How are you?" he asked, gently pinching my chin.
"Fine," I replied, suddenly feeling shy because he kept smirking.
"I heard you were able to take revenge on Niles, and you put him behind bars. I’m proud of you," Kaye said as he adjusted his jacket.
I watched Norman’s car leave, and my attention shifted back to Kaye.
"Thank you," I replied again.
I guess Kaye noticed, because he turned to and tilted his head. "Don’t worry, you know my brother would never cheat on you."
His words made instantly straighten my back. "Of course I know, I wasn’t thinking about that," I lied. I was thinking about everything. Call it my pregnancy hormones, but I was going crazy.
After a few seconds of silence, I scooted closer to Kaye and rested my head on his shoulder. I felt his body tense up before he gently held my hand, his fingers tangling with mine, and rested his cheek on my head.
"You know I want to be the best version of myself for you. I’m trying really hard to resist the compulsion, or whatever Kesha is doing, and sotis I feel like it’s working. But I’m afraid— what if it stops working soday?" His voice dropped so low it broke my heart.
I lifted my head from his shoulder but tightened my grip on his hand. "Then I’ll fight back for you, to help you rember ."
I noticed a wide smile spread across his lips. I had once promised Emt the sa thing, and sowhere along the way, I failed him. But I wanted to fix my mistakes, and I needed him to know I would never disappoint him.
"I an it," I said, and it seed like he had been waiting for soone to say those words to him.
"I appreciate it," he replied with a smile, licking his bottom lip.
"What?" I grunted.
"Nothing. I just can’t wait for you to give birth." That was his way of reminding he wanted to be sexually active with again. I rolled my eyes and rested my head back, this ti closing my eyes.
In a few hours, we reached our destination, the Blood hunter’s pack. Since we hadn’t inford anyone, the warriors at the border were caught off guard.
"Since you are Alpha Queen, I don’t think I can stop you. Please, go ahead," the warrior said when he saw in the car with Kaye.
"You don’t need to inform your Alpha about my arrival. It’s a surprise," I told him with a fake smile, and he nodded, obeying my orders.
"I can’t wait to see their faces," Kaye said, making smile.
Deep down though, I felt uneasy. Seeing her again would remind of Salem. And even though we pretended life was normal, there were still monts when we all ntioned her. We lost a good one.
We arrived at the main mansion, and Kaye held the door open for as I stepped out of the car. The warriors outside instantly bowed, though they looked confused, probably wondering why we were here. The doors were opened for us without any questions. They all knew , knew I was the new Alpha Queen, so they let in. I could also tell they weren’t very fond of the new Alpha, because no one even tried to fetch him or let him know the Alpha Queen had arrived. Their obliviousness showed how careless they had beco.
I found Sydney in the living room with bags of chips, a movie playing on the TV, and alcohol bottles scattered around her.
"What is going on? Why is there so much noise?" Sydney shouted. Her back was to , so she didn’t see we had co in.
A warrior rushed forward to inform her, but before he could speak, she waved her hand at him. "Didn’t I tell you to fuck off? Do you not listen to the Alpha of your pack?" she scread, and that’s when I realized they had already crowned her as the Alpha of the pack.
"Well, you did ask your warrior to let you know what the commotion was about," I said. "He was just answering your question."
As soon as I spoke, she jumped, tossing the bag of chips to the floor and knocking a bowl of popcorn off her lap as she leapt to her feet. She turned to , her eyes widening. She blinked a few tis, probably trying to confirm she was really seeing , before finally regaining control of her body and mind. She gulped and straightened her shoulders.
"What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to inform soone before showing up?" she hissed, throwing attitude.
