Helanie:
"That was so weird," I finally comnted after a few minutes of silent riding, still pondering my father’s ssage to my mother, breaking the quiet.
It wasn’t like he gave so crazy ssage. But that simple "hi" ant sothing.
"Your father?" Emt asked, and I nodded, still looking out the window.
"That’s nothing compared to the information Daltan gave about my mother," Emt added, making turn to look at him—to check on him.
"Maybe it’s just a rumor," I tried to help ease his emotions, but he smiled, shaking his head.
"There’s sothing going on. We need to keep a close eye on these parents of ours. Starting with Mr. Coombs, and how he beca Alpha."
He was right. And the fact that he was already thinking about the next case we were going to work on, it was amazing.
It proved either his ability to tackle problems, or maybe, his attempt to run from whatever is waiting for him at the mansion. Or whoever is waiting for him.
"What about Azura, Emt? I’m not sure she gets it. She still acts like you two are together," I brought her up, because we couldn’t keep pretending she wasn’t an issue.
"Driver, take a left from here," Emt suddenly instructed, changing the route.
"Umm— I’m pretty sure the left doesn’t take us ho," I said, eyeing the road a little anxiously.
"That’s because it’s not," he confird. I turned in my seat to face him fully.
"Where are we going, then?" I asked, adjusting my posture.
"Why? Are you afraid I’m abducting you? Are you scared to go anywhere with ?" His tone was calm, but there was a secret laced in it. As if he was definitely up to sothing, but stalling on giving the full answer.
We had no reception here. The weather was already getting worse, so I figured maybe he just wanted to take a quicker route ho without wasting ti.
"I’m not scared, but I would like to know where we’re going," I tried to keep my voice calm. Not because I thought he was taking sowhere dangerous. I could trust Emt with my life, even if he were drunk out of his mind. But I was curious.
"We’re going to the Council’s building."
His response made narrow my eyes at him.
"We’re getting married today, Helanie."
My heart almost stopped beating when I heard his plans. In fact, they were so insane that I started laughing, thinking he was just pulling a prank on .
"Co on, tell . Is it a café? Are we stopping for a al?" I asked, watching him lean back comfortably, open his coat a little, then rest his head back on the seat, turning it toward while breathing calmly.
"I’ll be your al tonight," his voice turned sexier, and my head snapped toward the window. Avoiding eye contact with him might help relax my muscles first.
"We’re getting married, Helanie. I can’t take this anymore," he repeated the sa thing as before, but this ti, with more passion and stubbornness in his voice.
"Emt, I’m already married," I smiled a little, trying to ease the tense atmosphere.
"You have four mates. That makes a whole difference. Besides, you can tell if you don’t want to marry , and I’ll tell the driver to turn back right now. But let just say this, I really want to marry you. Tonight. I don’t think we’ll ever be able to do it again. So, it’s either tonight or sadly, never."
The urgency in his voice, the deep and dark tone, and the way his eyes zoned out made sit back and take deeper breaths to make the right decision.
"What do you an? What will the others say?" I asked, starting to worry. His tone and behavior were making want to hold his hand and never let go. But then, what about the others?
"We can tell them later. Or you can leave a ssage. They’ll receive it once we get reception at the courthouse," he said.
"Emt, what will we say was the urgency to get married like this?" I asked, sliding a little closer to be able to look into his eyes.
"Hm. You’ve done it before. Norman got lucky that night and married you when no one was around either," he mumbled, his voice still dark and hollow.
"That’s because he was saving that night," I whispered, my eyes beginning to tear up.
"Then think of it as you saving tonight," he said softly, raising his hand and gently touching my cheek.
"Are you in danger, Emt? Is it Azura?" I asked, and he started smiling. A tear welled in his eye before slipping down.
"You can say no, by the way," he whispered, still smiling.
"What if I don’t want to say no?" I hit him back with the sa soft tone he was using and gently placed my hand on his chest. I knew the others would be angry, but at that mont, I couldn’t stop myself.
It had been my dream for a while to marry Emt. And tonight felt like the perfect night.
I just couldn’t say no.
I leaned in closer, resting against his chest. His arm wrapped around my body, holding in a tight embrace.
"Like a river flows. Surely to the sea. Darling, so it goes–"
Emt softly humd the lody. I closed my eyes, listening to the song playing in the car, his voice blending into it perfectly.
’So things, you know, are ant to be. Take my hand. Take my whole life too. For I can’t help falling in love with you’
The soft music wasn’t better than listening to Emt’s heartbeat. We stayed like that for the rest of the ride until we arrived at the courthouse.
Emt got out first and held his hand out for . I stared at his hand, smiling through the emotion, and just as a tear rolled down my cheek, I placed my hand in his, and walked out with him.
