Helanie:
I had never seen Emt look so intense before, so I decided to leave his car. We were going to be at odds now. Given how much his family loved Roo, I realized I would be going against so many people.
"No!" He grabbed my hand and prevented from leaving. "You are not leaving just like that."
For a mont, I felt like he would beco one of those people who get angry at and then try to silence .
"Let go," I hissed, and the mont the look on my face changed to worry, he let go. I stord out of his car but didn’t realize he had co out after .
"Helanie, I only let go of your hand because I didn’t want you to think I was holding you in my car against your will. But that doesn’t an I don’t want answers," he demanded as he stepped in my way.
"You will find out soon," I said, attempting to sidestep him.
"No, I want to know now. Helanie, what did he do to you?" However, the way he asked his question already made feel like he wouldn’t be one of those people.
"Tell —is he—" He suddenly shut up, but my frown deepened.
"Helanie, is he one of those Alphas—" His question beca clearer, and my heart sank in my chest.
"What do you an—what do you know?" It finally clicked. All this ti, he was always around , protecting , showing compassion. Was it sympathy?
But how could he have known?
"Tell , how do you know?" I yelled, stepping back from him. I wanted to tell him myself, but realizing he had known all along, while I had no clue, filled my heart with so much agony.
"Helanie," he attempted to co closer, but I stepped back. I wanted answers first.
"Before I tell you anything, I want you to sit down first," he said as he held my arm. Despite wanting to pull away, I tried to calm myself and listen to him. I knew I was taking my anger out on probably the wrong person, but I just didn’t want him to know and not talk to about it.
All these weeks and days, I was terrified of the brothers finding out and thinking I was lying. If only he had told he knew, I would have been at peace and wouldn’t have constantly lied to him.
I sat down in the backseat, my legs out, and he knelt down on the road before . He was so big that he still towered over even while I was in the car.
"I paid a visit to your sister a few weeks ago, and she told everything," he confird, making my heart sink in my chest. I quickly closed my eyes, and my lips began to quiver.
Hearing about my sister again felt like I hadn’t seen her in ages.
"Hey, don’t hide from . I will never look at you any differently. In fact, I admire your strength," he said, but I didn’t raise my eyes and silently started to sob.
Everything started to flash before my eyes—the way I begged them to let go, the way I had expected soone to hug and comfort at that mont. If my father had been a little empathetic toward , he would have taken straight to the hospital to get the rape kit, and all this pain could have been avoided.
"I believe you," he said, and I shot my eyes open.
"I want to go ho," I said. "To my dorm room." I made it clear that the only place I called ho was my dorm room.
"Okay, but we will talk about it," he said and got up to sit in the driver’s seat. I shut the door after pulling my legs back in. I was so tired that I didn’t want to change seats, and he noticed it too.
While driving, I noticed him constantly stretching his neck and breathing out through his nostrils, as if he was getting irritated.
I didn’t ask him any questions, and he didn’t say anything either.
After we arrived at the hostel, I stord out without turning around to make eye contact with him.
I went straight to my room and lay down on my bed, realizing everyone else was already asleep. I had told Lamar and Jenny that I was coming back with Emt, so they had gone to bed already.
I had to tell my friends in the morning that Roo had a strong background too, but before I could think further, a knock on the door confused even more.
I got out of bed and quickly answered the door so the others wouldn’t be disturbed.
Before stood the warden. I didn’t expect her to co straight to my room to scold .
"I got a request from your stepbrother Emt to send you to the academy," she said. Her tone was cocky, almost as if she was judging the timing of the eting.
"Okay," I replied, confused as to why he would want to et at the academy at this ti.
I grabbed my purple sweater, pulled it over my pajamas, and rushed out of the hostel. All the while, Argona had been staring at like she had so questions.
Once outside, I realized that spring in this part of rogue land was as cold as winter.
Entering the dark academy, I looked around in confusion before continuing toward Emt’s office.
He was inside, and the door was left open. I entered, only to find him missing—until he suddenly shut the door behind , startling .
Before I could turn around, he grabbed my arms, holding in place while he stood behind .
Then, he leaned over , his lips near my ear, and said in a harsh, determined tone,
"I will cut Roo limb by limb and present it to you on a platter myself."
